I was the "Oxymoron"
Rolston's book became valuable in two areas. The first area was the transition I undertook from line employee to supervisor to division manager. His filing system for project management, daily activities, etc. helped me in the transition from receiving work orders to issuing work orders and then to long range planning in my current job.

This was especially important as these changes have occurred over a twenty year tenure at my current job as a Facility Manager for one of the fastest growing cities in America. His advice has helped me become a better manager and, most importantly, KEEP A CLEAN DESKTOP!

The second area is in the leadership roles I play in other areas such as Church and American Cancer Society. His methods have allowed me better use resources and time in my daily life thus allowing me to be active in the things I enjoy outside work.

It is also important to note that I see Rolston's philosophies he relates lived out in his daily life. He has been a great role model and confidant. The implementation of his ideas has been made easier by his exampling.

In short, this is a "must read"!

Common Sense Between Book Covers
If you are looking for the latest fad or sophisitcated ideas on how to get organized and stay organized this is not the book for you. However, if you like good old fashion common sense and ideas that are clearly explained, easy to learn and simple to implement...this is the book for you.

I teach people to get organized for a living. In the process of learning how to teach this course, I read every book I could get my hands on about the topic...and listened to audio tape...and watched videos...and called people doing this kind of work. I learned a few things from a few of the books, tapes and videos. But when I encountered Maynard I "hit the motherload" in a manner of speaking. In a nutshell, many people have written better looking books about the topic of getting organized. The covers may be slicker, the illustrations may be fancier or the words may sound more sophisticated...but Maynard's book has one overriding quality that impressed me more than the covers, illlustrations and words of the other books...he knows what he is talking about and his system works. Most unorganized people do not think they have time to read books. If you can only find time for one book...read Maynard's book. Maynard has mastered the topic of getting organized and he shares his mastery with others throughout this book.

Here is just one example of what you can learn in this book...if you use Maynard's system, you will never again struggle with prioritizing your work. As a matter fo fact, you will be able to prioritize your work (and know that you got it right) in 60 seconds or less. The true definition of being organized is being able to find things when you need them. Find this book as soon as you can...you'll understand after you read it how much you needed it!

Common sense is uncommon sense
Fantastic book! This author helped my employees become much more efficient and gave us more time to spend on more important issues. If you detest paperwork this is a must read title.

Wealth Happens One Day at a Time : 365 Days to a Brighter Financial Future

Sometimes our parents plant weird ideas in our heads, such as "You shouldn't be selfish," when the subject of buying something nice arises. As an adult, that often translates into "I don't deserve to have money." Or maybe we feel so good about the money we make that we can't resist spending it on whatever catches our eye: a new pair of shoes, a titanium mountain bike, a leather love seat to go with the leather sofa we couldn't afford last month.

Financial planner Brooke Stephens has heard every excuse for not making, saving, and investing money; she also knows that no matter what attitude a person starts with, he or she can change it. So Wealth Happens starts with baby steps--tiny exercises to change your mind about money, and to increase your knowledge about what it can do. Then she shows the basics of investing, building wealth, protecting what you've built, and, finally, retiring on that wealth.

Sprinkled among the chunks of concrete advice are quotes and proverbs ("Save money and money will save you"), inspirational anecdotes (John D. Rockefeller built an incredible fortune while tithing 10 percent to his church), and real-life scenarios showing how a decent income can get gobbled up with foolish purchases and the resultant credit-card interest. Wealth Happens is about as beginner-friendly as personal-finance guides can possibly be. Because of that, it probably won't be very useful to the person who's already paying off credit-card balances each month and saving for retirement. But for the person who wonders how people who own homes got them, or how anyone can actually afford to retire at 65, this is the book to buy. --Lou Schuler

WEALTH HAPPENS ONE DAY AT A TIME
Great Book! I totally enjoyed reading it. I have a small collection of books on money management. None have moved me to action such as this one. It was so easy to read. Everything was explained very well. What I also loved about this book was the endless resource Ms. Stephens gave. Her example of everyday people whom did well investing small amounts of money encouraged me tremendously. I founded myself running back to my budget trying to find more money to invest. She removed all my fears and doubt. I hated keeping a budget at first. I hated seeing in printed how much money I did not have. Now I love keeping my financial records. I gladly count my pennies because I know it is my beginning of a bright financial future! Thank you Brooke Stephens.

FINALLY A BOOK FOR THE LAY PERSON !
Brooke Stephens has written a book which is a presentfromheaven. I bought this book... some time ago; what asteal. Anyhow, I thought it was like the Suzie Orman's book, but once I started to read this book, I notice there was something different here. It was a simple day to day plan for personal growth as well as personal finance. The financial guide is not a get rich book but the book is for those of us who truly do not understand finance. BS book could also help the knowlegeable finance manager out there. I must tell you this, I have read only 100 pages and I already must say it is worth 10 stars. This book has drove me to pencil in notes in the margins. The booksellers have not given this book a top spot in their stores, and I must say, I wonder WHY. Good people, please, do not pass up this book if you are interested in making your finances better. Wow, enough said here, but do not forget to come back and check out my next review.

Personal Finance Books are no sure thing for riches, but this BOOK is not just good, but VERY GOOD !

Best of it's kind
Wonderful book for those who want to learn how to learn how to gain control of your money and invest.

A Promise Delivered
I can not count the number of products and services that have come my way heralded with much hype and false promises of their value to the user. That's been especially true of self-help guides. You know the ones that promise you'll be a changed person, if only you buy the book and implement its recommendations. Well, at long last one of those books delivered on the promise. The foreword states that "you'll find these pages to be filled with practical, how-to advice .... step-by-step formulas for finding ...and keeping balance in your life." As a poster child for the insanity of the wired world, I really did not know how to break out of the strangle hold it had on my life. It became easier and easier to rationalize absolutely crazy behaviors related to my out- of- balance existence. The authors of Dot Calm were surely writing about me or so it seemed. I expect many of its readers will feel the same identification with the analysis of being over-connected, over-worked,over-scheduled, over-informed and ultimately OVERWHELMED. It's a book you'll read in one sitting and then reread many times as you take back control over your life. Thanks to the authors for delivering on their promise.

Dot Calming; Substance and Technique
An injection of humanity and sanity into the high tech frenzy many of us call work. While focusing on the technologically driven professional this well-written work identifies the struggles we ALL have in managing work and career while seeking to make time for our families and loved ones. Laid out in a problem-solution format, this easy to read yet deeply thoughtful book first explains the expectations and behaviors that contribute to our stress before offering both practical solutions and ways to implement them. Touching "testimonies" of the struggles and victories others have experienced are laced throughout the book. I have found that many such books either deal with the "philosophical" issues of balance in life, or tend to be endless lists of "techniques" for regaining control of life. Dot Calm is a well-balanced mix. A book you will need to reread and reflect on to mine its depths while it offers very practical and doable ideas for taking your life back from work. Be careful! This book could be an epiphany for you. It was for me, I highly recommend it.

Dot Calm: The Search for Sanity in a Wired World
It was great finding a book that offered helpful suggestions in a very readable style to the problem of staying in touch without getting overwelmed by our high-tech world. Best of all was the insightful nature of the book. The distinction between balance and congruence was so important. The authors recognized the reality of human spirituality and the blows it can suffer in our wired world. A fine book for anyone who has caught the wave of techno-communication but still wants to stay sane.

The Essential Compendium
Out of the various books on overworked Americans, the history of time and work in America, the environmental impacts of our lifestyle, and simple living alternatives, this volume is the single best introduction to all these topics. This book makes a great gift to just about anybody who works today.

Thought provoking
Having been interested in these issues for a few years, I participated in the official Take Back Your Time Day on Oct. 24. I hadn't bought the book before the event since I thought I already knew enough about the issues, but with the enthusiasm generated from the event, I purchased a copy. I was pleased to find that it's a very readable, thought-provoking book - a variety of short essays by knowledgeable people about important ideas. It offers many ideas I hadn't thought about before. Well worth the cost - both in money and in the time spent reading it!

excellent book
this is a book long past due. even better than affluenza.

The best integration of your life and time scheduling ever.
Time management tricks don't work. Dr. Hobbs takes who you are and puts you in control without any tricks - just reality. I already have two copies and have loaned them out to friends. They won't bring them back! That's why I am ordering a third copy. Covey is a child compared to Dr. Hobbs, and I like Covey!

A Life Changing Masterpiece!
This book should be required reading for every man, woman and child, and especially required for anyone interesting in improving themselves! Dr. Hobbs has an excellent system of time management to be sure, but the genius of his system is that it includes ALL areas of your life, not just in the work place. I stumbled upon this book in 1987 in the library. After reading the first few pages I immediately went out and purchased it and began marking it up. My wife did the same. I shared it at work and in my ministry. His system of understanding personal congruency and documenting Unifying Principles changed my life and has been used by me and loads of my friends for 14 years! It works! If you can get this book, GET IT.

Time Power
I read this book in 1996 and forgot how good it is. Rereading it now and recommend it to anyone who is looking to be a better manager of their time and life. This is the classic time managment book, forget Covey, he ripped his ideas off Hobbs. For about $.. (it is in paperback) you can save yourself a bundle. ...

Excellent Book for Business-to-Business inside sales!
"We recently ordered both volumes of 'How to Sell More in Less Time with No Rejection'. Though we have only had the books a few days,we've already benefited a great deal. It's been a real challenge finding information that caters to business-to-business telesales, but we've finally found just the books to meet our needs."

How to Sell More in Less Time, With No Rejection, ...
"The examples are very easy to incorporate into any one's sales process right out of the books. These ideas will help any sales person communicate more effectively with clients, prospects, and even co-workers and family. The tools in these books can be utilized by the newest member of your sales staff, and even teach some of those old dogs new tricks. With everything from creating opening statements to the quickest way to a strong confident close, "How to Sell More in Less Time with No Rejection, Volumes 1 and 2," are simply by far, the best most practical easy-to-use sales books have ever read."

persuasive and profitable telephone communications
This book has some sensible advice and workable techniques for persausive and profitable telephone communications that you can use right away, regardless of your industry, particulary if you rely on cold-calling to get that appointment. The sections that I've found helpful include developing a selling telephone image, how to avoid language that sounds "salesly" or threatening, leaving voicemail messages that have impact, how to deal with screeners to get to the correct decision-makers. Even better are the templates that you fill in, depending upon your product or service, to stimulate interest at the beginning of your call, using a recommended menu of words and phrases (this was invalable for me). Other sections I have dog-eared include setting appointments over the phone, handling follow-up calls, dealing with different objections, and some great closing ideas. A great investment.

The Personal Efficiency Program : How to Get Organized to Do More Work in Less Time

What business person doesn't feel constantly pressed for time, struggling mightily to fulfill an ever-expanding array of professional obligations while simultaneously juggling an always increasing litany of personal responsibilities? Kerry Gleeson, founder of the Institute for Business Technology, presents a comprehensive but easy-to-implement plan for "getting things done" on the work side (which then leaves more time for other matters) in The Personal Efficiency Program. Gleeson's "PEP" plan outlines a variety of organizational processes and simplification systems that should work if diligently implemented, and suggests ways to use them effectively in real-life situations.
Average review score:

How to be organized and efficient in the workplace
The Personal Efficiency Program is exactly that, a program to help you get organized and stay organized so that you can get more done in less time. The overriding theme is to do things now and don't put them off. The book covers all the bases for organization from developing a routine, planning processes, following through, managing and maintaining. The area that it does not cover is the psychological factors in getting things done. For example, one of the books that I read noted that one of the problems with a "to-do" type list is that we tend to look at it and do the easiest or most fun things first. So, as a result our reward for completing one of the items on our "to-do" list is that we get a less desireable and more difficult task to do next. Rearranging the "to-do" list so that you do the most difficult and least fun things first you set yourself up for success because as a reward for doing the difficult item you get a less difficult item or more fun item to do. I know it is just playing games, but it does affect how well people get their "to-do" list completed. I wish that he had included research like that in the book in addition to all of the good ideas for organizing and keeping track of things.

This book is designed solely for the work environment and getting things organized and done at work. Still many of the items can be applied at home too. It is a good book and a good read with a program that works if you implement and practice it.

Cheaper than the Program, great value for the money
Kerry Gleeson's Personal Efficiency Program is the famed system for multiplying productivity that has already revolutionised the work lives of over 300,000 people around the globe. In this book Gleeson offers an updated and expanded edition of his classic guide to working faster and smarter, giving you all the tools you need to get control of your workload-and your career.

This second edition also includes expanded information on conquering information overload, using the Internet to save time and energy, and managing today's faster-paced and multi-located work environments. Whether your goal is to be more productive, build a more rewarding career, or just leave the office on time, The Personal Efficiency Program can help you achieve it.

Kerry Gleeson is creator of the Personal Efficiency Program, whose clients include executives from world class companies. His work as today's premier expert on personal productivity has been featured in leading business publications.

Highly Recommended
Author Kerry Gleeson, a specialist in white collar efficiency and productivity, describes a do-it-now program for becoming more organized and effective. As might be expected, this is a well-organized book. Gleeson outlines some familiar approaches to getting organized, such as setting up an office system that deals with paperwork effectively. The book becomes more informative when it discusses some less familiar organizational techniques, such as planning chunks of time to deal with similar tasks, using technology and establishing routines for maintaining your organizational system. The book's major strength is the detail it offers about setting up files and systems, and following through on organizational initiatives. We enjoyed Gleeson's case histories of reorganizing various offices. She uses many of her basic principles in common sense ways - and the messes she repairs will make you feel like the top of your desk may not be hopeless after all.

Keeping Cool on the Hot Seat: Dealing Effectively with the Media in Times of Crisis
Published in Paperback by Four C's Publishing Company (01 April, 2001)
Author: Judith C. Hoffman
Amazon base price: $19.95
Average review score:

Great advice for college administrators
Judy Hoffman's book is a great tool for PR Directors and Public Affairs Directors at colleges and universities to use to prepare or update their Crisis Communications Plans. Her book is easy to read with great tips, including her "10 C's of Good Crisis Communications." I can't imagine a better resource to utilize than this book. If I am ever faced with a tragedy on our campus, I would first turn to my Crisis Communications Plan and then re-read this book.

Pleasant and very informative reading!
Ms. Hoffman's book, "Keeping Cool on the Hot Seat", gives a comprehensive perspective on turning a negative situation into something positive. As an educator, I found this book to have great application not only in the public relations world, but for anyone who needs to proactively communicate with other persons about delicate situations. As a small business owner, my husband was able to recall numerous situations with customers when he could have functioned more effectively had he been aware of the principles and approach to the management of crises.
Ms. Hoffman writes with wit and a definite expertise on her subject. Colleges and universities should consider this text for training future business leaders, and it should be required reading for any persons who deal with the public on a regular basis.

Must Read for Communications professionals
I enjoyed reading this book a great deal. It vaidated much of what I had already learned and pointed me to new and useful techniques, ideas and resources. Not only MUST communications professionals read this book, I think it is a valuable tool for anyone who wants to understand the dynamic world of media and news reporting

I think that it is very funny that our lives have become so complicated that we need a book to teach us how to simplify it, but need it we do. Jan Jasper has put together what seemed like a million simple ideas on how to get through all the stuff that screems for our attention. To accomplish more, to enjoy our life more, to do the things that are important to us, we must purge all the time wasters. "Take back your time" gave me a view from a different angle so that I can make a choice on what to keep and what to purge. I am glad I bought it! P.S. For me "Think and grow rich", How to win friends, and influence people", The majic of thinking Big" are five star books. "Take back your time" is a strong four.

Definitely a book worth the Time to Read!
I highly recommend this book because it really helped clarify what I thought was important vs. what I thought I was suppose to do. Ms Jasper has an excellent way of showing you just how to save time and in an easy to understand way. It is as though she is next to you guiding you along the way. This book really helps you organize what's really important and has a way of freeing you from all the other Stuff.... Ms. Jasper, thank you.

Work With Technology Instead of Against It
Ms. Jasper presents excellent advice on how to use computers, software, personal digital assistants, and cell phones to better organize your life and overall provides very helpful suggestions for introducing sanity into what is for most of us a life in overdrive. This is a time management book that is relevant to the real world today, and has many effective techniques to get us where we want to go.

CRM at the Speed of Light, 3e

Author: Paul Greenberg
Amazon base price: $20.99
List price: $29.99 (that's 30% off!)
Average review score:

good topical crm coverage
Greenberg's book features pointed advice regarding the most common CRM topics(SFA, Marketing...). Another chapter I found useful was the chapter detailing the layout of CRM implementations. Although a good read, I have some criticisms: 1. The author is a bit biased to some vendors. 2. Not the best written book. The grammar and structure is not very conducive to "demystifying" CRM. Not a great pleasure to read this book (although quite informative).

Perhaps the best feature of this book is the great CRM business ideas that it features. It gets the reader thinking "maybe I should start a company and use some of these business ideas". Case in point: read the PRM and verticals chapter. Good for people looking to start their own CRM consultancy.

When was the last time...you?
When was the last time you read a business book written by an industry insider, and was so captivated by the book's content that you couldn't put the book down?? Well, author Paul Greenberg treats the reader to such a rare experience.

Whether you're the CEO of a company concerned about customer loyalty/profitability, a project leader charged with selecting and imlementing a CRM initiative, or a consultant within the CRM industry, this book is for you.

The biggest challenge the Business/CRM world faces today is understanding the delineation between CRM as a business strategy, and CRM as an enabling technology. No easy task! But Paul Greenberg clarifies this with incredible ease.

The author also, with zero techno-geek language, provides significant insights into areas of CRM such as: What IS CRM/What is it NOT?,Why your company needs CRM!!, ECRM versus CRM(a topic in the business world that seems to be strewn with much confusion), Who the real CRM players are....and why they are REAL, and What roles the internet and wireless applications are playing today, and in the future, and much, much more.

So if you're looking to become "CRM literate", or want to add to your CRM knowledge base, and want to actually have fun doing it-Paul's book is interspersed with humorous tidbits- GO BUY THIS BOOK!!

Very Good Reading - even for small business crm interest
