A Great Help in a Job Search
I am in the process of finding different employment. After searching for help on Amazon.Com, I came across the book "Knock Three Times". I ordered the book and received it in short order. Since then, I have used the techniques mentioned. So far, I've had two interviews and expect to hear from a third source, after I call them!

The book has some great common sense approaches and is full of good advice. The CD is convenient to pop into the car player on the way to the job interview as a review.

Thanks Mr. McCormick for your suggestions. My confidence level is soaring because of them.

Excellent Job Seekers Resource
I began using Knock 3 Times as a resource during my search for a new job upon completion of graduate school. The tools provided by this book were presented in a clear, concise, easy to understand format, that took me step by step through the search process. It provides a complete strategy that guarantees that the job seeker will be granted an interview in 30 days as well as tips for succeeding in the interview.

Prior to using this book, my job search was disorganized and sporadic in its focus and I was having little luck in even gaining an interview. This book assisted me in developing a strategic approach to my job search, ensuring that I focused on the right opportunities and maximized my efforts on the most promising positions. Since utilizing this tool, I have been offered greater opportunities and more interviews.

I highly recommend Knock 3 Times as an excellent tool for job searchers, it provides extra tools such as a CD, checklists, templates and newsletters that can give a job seeker an extra advantage over the competition.

Effective practical help for a job search!
I have enjoyed the benefits of of the valuable guidance
offered in the book, "Knock 3 Times." Its insights into
how to implement an effective job search resulted in my
securing a terrific Chief Financial Officer position that
was the capstone of my financial career.

"Knock 3 Times" made it possible to get my new position
in a very tight job market. The book made sure I was
organized and focused. Most important, its guidance
gave me a productive and logical structure in which I
could work, along with an emphasis on the positives
of my situation and what I had to offer -- which kept
me motivated and upbeat.

Talking with friends who were starting at the same
time showed me I was getting more exposure as a
result -- and more interviews than anyone else.

"Knock 3 Times" certainly worked for me -- and in
a short period of time -- and I recommend it to any
person looking for a job or seeking a career change.

A daily requirement.
This book has become part of my morning ritual. I read the meditation for the day each morning. It helps me to quit debting one day at a time. I've made some real strides in my debting behavior and this book helps keep me on track. A must read for anyone struggling with debt. It'll make you feel better and give you the strength and hope to make it one more day without debting.

Letting Go of Debt
Daily meditations for those who swim through a stormy sea of debt encircled by sharks. The stress of debt is as fierce as any other addiction, affecting us physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually, and even causing other addictive behaviors, all of which affects our relationships. In fact, we get so stressed about our debt that, for relief, we spend more. Debt is acquired a day at a time. Likewise, debt reduction and financial solvency are accomplished and maintained a day at a time. These meditations are a welcome adjunct to financial recovery programs or books.

didn't get in debt in a day and won't get out in a day ...
Being in debt is a lonely place to be, and I finally found a simple step forward to a permanent solution, this book. There is a short one small page topic for each day. This keeps me in the solution of becoming financially solvent, each day. The topics are simple and reaffirming, along with suggestions that most people perhaps do without thinking, but for those that have gotten into debt, the topics are the ladder out of our problem. Previously I bought "How to Get Out of Debt, Stay Out of Debt & Live Prosperously" by Jerrold Mundis but this did not change my spending behavior even though I read it cover to cover.

Thought provoking look into the mind of an entrepreneur
A thoroughly enjoyable read, "Pour Your Heart Into It" is an insightful look into both the rewards and challenges associated with not only buying into a business, but also developing that business into a powerhouse. More than a good read, however, the book is full of insightful comments on what to do (and not do) as an entrepreneur, e.g., on the importance of hiring enthusiastic people. Both entrepreneurs and investors in small companies will learn much from this book.

Wonderful inspiration, remarkable story!
Howard Schultz offers the details from the early days of Starbucks, over 25 years ago. The story begins with Howard's ambitions for working for the small bean company, and takes you through every phase of the business development. You will read about the first stores, the competition, the rapid growth, even the invention of the Frappuccino. This story is compulsively readable and full of inspiration, honesty and wisdom. You will also come to admire Starbucks the company. I am keeping my copy of this book on a shelf to refer to often when I need a reminder that anything is possible as long as you have a vision!

A Good Read Over Coffee
Schultz has provided a recap of his life events, those of Starbucks and the factors that influenced him and Starbucks that makes them what they are today. After reading you have an appreciation for how a person can maintain his integrity and build an organization that is based on concern for employees, customers and quality of product. For anyone who is looking for encouragement or suggestions on how to improve themselves or thoughts for maintaining or improving their company this is an excellent read. You will come away with an appreciate for the Starbuck organization and realize that it is more than a "Good Cup of Coffee".

Turn It Off : How to Unplug from the Anytime-Anywhere Office Without Disconnecting YourCareer

For those growing wary of the snowballing impact that technology now has on our lives--especially the way it leads to more time on the job, even when we're supposedly off the clock--Turn It Off will hit a nerve. "It's great to be able to do increasingly sophisticated, complex office work at home," writes Gil Gordon, a consultant who specializes in telecommuting and the virtual office. "It's not so great when we aren't able to close the door (literally or figuratively) on the home office and wind up working well into time we'd rather reserve for ourselves." His book offers a framework that anyone can use to divide the week's 168 total hours into three "zones" determined by how much we're willing to be "on duty" at any given time. It presents a flexible way to determine this level of availability and the days and times that each zone, which range from 0 percent to 60 percent to 100 percent involved, is then in effect. It also explains how to implement such a customized model, including advice for obtaining support from superiors, coworkers, and clients. Results certainly aren't guaranteed, particularly given the seductive nature of today's hot new gadgetry, but those dedicated to reducing its impacts should see improvement by tenaciously employing Gordon's suggestions. --Howard Rothman

Turn It Off - Three Little Words That Can Change Your Life!
Regardless of who you are - a casual user of today's technology, old, young, or in between, a corporate citizen or a manager - it is easy to become enthralled by today's "toys", which turn into "tools" and unless handled carefully, change into "weapons" that threaten to control us.

At one point in time or another, we've each fallen victim to the seductiveness of "always on" technology. Believing the myth of "I'll only check e-mail for 5 minutes" or "I'll check my voice mail - it will probably only take a second" has lead many of us to the almost unconscious, unnoticeable state of "always on duty". How did it happen? How can we revert back?

"Turn It Off" helps - a great deal! It is practical, the approach is definitely instructive, and the reader is given much to think about when analyzing their personal and professional circumstances. Approaching our time off with as much care as we devote to our business reminds us to cherish it as the valued and valuable commodity it is.

The author has done an admirable job of positioning the trends that we all must respond to as managers, employees and most importantly, people. We live and work in tumultuous times... "Turn It Off" captures our dilemma - and our opportunity to regain control - most effectively.

This book is "spot on"
This is an excellent, thoughtful and well-written book. Even more important, the author is absolutely right about the impact of high technology on our lives. The approach he proposes for simplifying your life is, unlike those proposed by others, reasonable, practical and achievable. I highly recommend the book --- as well as the less practical but far more humorous look at high technology and society as provided in the paperback, GONE AWRY: A virtual tour through high tech hell.

Get Your Life Back!
We used to be able to disconnect from the office. Our home lives and our work lives were separate. We had a life, as today's expression goes. In a world of e-mail, voicemail, pagers, cell phones, and personal digital assistants, it's increasingly hard to have a life. At least a life outside of work.

All these technological marvels are wonderful, except that they keep us so tethered to our work. We can no longer easily separate the workplace from the rest of our lives. With these connections, every place is the workplace. Result: burnout, severely reduced family and personal time, and shallow relationships with friends and family. We've been trapped in a world that expects instant response 24 hours a day, 7 days a week . . . if we allow it. And most of us do. But we don't have to!

Gil Gordon, an expert in telecommuting and virtual offices, shows us how to regain our freedom, privacy, space . . . to get a life. The book is organized into nine chapters, starting with How Did We Become So Attached to Our Offices. Get ready-in chapter 2, you'll learn How to Find Out if You've Gone over the Line. The balance of the book is page after page of techniques, based on Gordon's three zones of life management. Chapter 6 is critical: How to Approach, Inform, and Get Support from Your Boss, Clients, or Co-Workers. I bet you'll take notes on this chapter! Don't think you can do it all? Chapter 9 covers What to Do if You Just Can't "Turn It Off."

An important point: Gordon doesn't tell you exactly what to do. He just shows you the path. It's up to the reader to determine how far to go, when, and why. Turn It Off gives you the blueprint, the skeleton design, the concept. It's up to you to use it in the way that will be best for you and your life. No, you can't borrow my copy-I've marked it up-lots of fill-in worksheets. And I want to keep this book.

Turn It Off came at a perfect time in my life. I had reached that point where I really wanted to break free of the bonds of total connection. While my desire was there, I needed just a little bit of moral support and perhaps something to call my feeling. Turn it off! Yes! I read the book. I paid attention. I followed Gordon's suggestions to re-think my life. I made some major changes that feel wonderful already! Now I have to discipline myself to stick with it. I think I'll put Turn It Off in my tickler file for three months from now as a reminder to check my progress. Thanks, Gil Gordon--I now have a life again!

Good sense just when we need it
How did we get where we are just now? And, more importantly, what can we do about it? This book offers some keen insights into how the dot.com speculative bubble was created, and the mistakes in judgement that many of us made in the process. But rather than crying over "spilt" milk, it offers us sound ideas for picking up the pieces and building on from there. I like its brevity and flow, and the quotes from CEOs and luminaries, such as Baruch Lev,are appropriate rather than gratuitous. Good work.

An Excellent Read That's Right on the Money
Agile Business offers a strong framework for understanding our complex business environment and for devising meaningful strategies that take advantage of our fluctuating economy.

Best book on manufacturing I have ever read & used
This is the finest, most practical and usable book I have ever read. Chapter 4 can be used to set up an entire factory with excellent results.

I set up a new factory using this book and reach proforma faster than I could believe.

Excellent One-Stop Reading of Best Mfg .Concepts/Practices
Robert Hall has scored a perfect 10 in terms of capturing JIT, TQM, Continuous Improvement, ERP all within the confines of one book. His style of writing is really absorbing. I was surprised to find that no one had written a review of this book. This book, if I recollect correctly, is a recommended reading for APICS's CRIM candidates. If you want to get a taste of all the proven manufacturing concepts and practices, then this book serves as a one-stop reading.

Beyond Time Management, Business with Purpose
Published in Paperback by Butterworth-Heinemann (December, 1996)
Author: Robert J. Wright
Amazon base price: $19.95
Used price: $58.97
Average review score:

This Book Will Help Work Be More Meaningful for You
This is a tremendous book that I highly recommend. Beyond Time Management is about how to develop and use purpose and principles on the job, and how to have work become a truly meaningful experience. Simply and understandably written, it is full of good examples to explain what Wright is writing about - how much more satisfying and meaningful work is when one is operating from a sense of personal purpose. It includes a chapter that walks the reader through the process of creating a life purpose statement, which I found most helpful. The book ends with a section on corporate purpose and principles, which I have used in my company. IF YOU WANT TO BE MORE POWERFUL AND SATISFIED IN YOUR WORK, READ THIS BOOK.

Excellent process to discover one's purpose in work and life
The concepts in this book go far beyond what's suggested by the title. This is not simply a how-to-get-more-things-done book. It is an amazingly insightful handbook that walks you through a process that helps you not only to discover your own purpose, but also to understand the principles that are the very foundations of living a life of integrity and compassion. The examples are inspiring and relevant. It is packed full of gems of wisdom. The only difficulty is the concepts are so rich, and the author explains them so simply, it might be difficult for readers to grasp the scope of the change that can take place by following the principles set out.
