When tackling an MBA thesis, this book was the best we came across. It is well-structured, written in a very readable style and has a good index. Jankowicz explains what is usually expected at various levels (from undergraduate to Ph.D.). The content is often academic, but if your thesis is supposed to have a serious academic component and you are interested in producing a solid report, that will help rather than hinder you. It's the kind of book interested students will dip into over and over again in the course of writing a thesis. Having Jankowicz on the shelf won't replace a helpful academic supervisor, but it will answer MANY questions, thus allowing you to use your supervisor's time more productively, for issues specific to your project. If your project is data-heavy, you will need other reference material; suggestions are provided in the book.

If you have ever patronized a bar or been a bartender or waitress, you will connect with The Cocktail Waitress. In spite of this book's being the result of scholarly research, it is as readable as a novel.

Spradley and his associates observe what occurs in a bar near a college, describing the culture established in the bar. Most readers can identify with at least one of the characters as the hierarchy of roles comes into play. The bartenders (male) are the ostensible dominant figures, and the cocktail waitresses have to act within the unwritten rules that the baartenders establish.

I have spoken with several cocktail waitresses currently working at college bars near my college. They assure me that little has changed in the twenty-odd years since the study was completed and today.

An enjoyable and informative read!

Jerry Patterson tells it like it is. He pulls no punches when describing potential pitfalls when attempting to create real systemic change in today's schools and school districts. At first, this honest look at the realities of trying to change schools may seem cynical, but on review Patterson creates realistic scenarios of what leaders need to know before they initiate change strategies. Patterson brings life to the ideas of writers like Gardner, Burns, O'toole, and Deal and points up some great rules of thumb for those who consider themselves "transformational leaders" in schools today.

I am intrigued by the a small school professor's ability to see strategy so clearly. The book is far better than most I have read from Harvard.

The author provokes thought in the reader. Thus, he endeavors to teach business people how to fish rather than gives us a fish as is the case in most Harvard type offerings.

Great book, covers a lot of equipment in great detail in everyday language. I would recommend this book for all property management personnel. Well written and organized material.

This is the one and only book for anyone interesting in telemarketing, made easy. It was definite page turner and worth every penny.

Hjalmar Schacht has been reviled by many as the man who financed Hitler's plan for world war. In fact he was tried at Nuremberg for that very thing. But he was acquitted (by the skin of his teeth!). Here he presents his view of what he accomplished as President of the Reichsbank (at two different times) and as Minister of Finance -- and why he quit. Although autobiographies of those who knew Hitler and worked with him are generally self-serving to acquit themselves of blame, Schacht's is one of the most believable. For those of us who know nothing of the machinations of world economics, this book is a fascinating, and easy to read, presentation.

As an environmental economist, I find Milani's treatment of much the same territory as Hawken/Lovins/Lovins to have a much broader vision. The key concept Milani introduces is regenerative economics, in contrast to the increasingly conventional notion of sustainability. As the name suggests, Milani's approach is about designing economic activity so as to improve, not simply maintain natural systems. While Hawken/Lovins/Lovins are awash with technical detail and appeals to the business ethics, Milani asks us to consider community organizing as a key element to green economics.

An extrememly helpful picture of new product development at the time of the growing globalization of world markets. Many U.S companies were afraid to embrace this new concpt--particuarly in new product development International had always been treated as a separate department--something isolated in a sense from the domestic operation. Today most forward U.S. companies are completely global in their outlook all the way from the way they are orgnaized down to the way they devlope products for world markets.At the time this study was done, the U.S. was behind other countries in recognizing globaliztion and in many ways this had an adverse effect on our abilty to compete globally. This book gives me an in depth picture of this point in time for new product development.
