The most insightful book on direct mail ever!
I was one of the lucky few who secured this direct mail communications bible before the English edition went out of print. It singularly inspired me for many years in a very successful career worldwide in direct mail, and inspired those who I subsequently trained. A sad loss.

Different Book Than the Title Says!!!
The Amazon heading says you are getting Milady's Standard Textbook for Estheticians, but upon further inspection, buried deep in a paragraph at the bottom of the page you are curtly informed that it is in fact the SPANISH VERSION of the State Exam Review book. No information in that one, amigo.

the perfect book if you want to sleep
I've never read such a boring book! It takes ages before you start understanding what this guy is actually saying. After reading a few pages you'll be fast asleep... At least I did.

Boring, uninteresting book
This is a total contrast to american books. It is without colors, pictures. You can hardly find a graph in it. Besides this, that the book is not interesting to look at and it is also written in a totaly ununderstandable way. It wants to be sophisticated, but it is a crap! I would not recomend this book to anyone who does not really need it.

Difficult but...
This book is seasoned economists only... It IS badly written, the theory is unnecessarily complicated, but then again it was certainly not intended to be an elegant political essay. If you want to know about the scientific depths of economic integration between nations, this is the right reading for you. But be prepared to take a lot of aspirin.

Get a job!
The least this book does is point out the reality that many who falsely pride themselves in the profession of psychotherapy would do better in other career fields: welding, sewing, fruit picking, VCR repair. Seriously, if you fancy yourself a therapist yet the thought of actually getting your hands dirty and dealing with depression repulses you then please snap out of your Hollywood illusions and accept a normal job with the rest of us... before you go and further ruin someone else's life.

Considerations
This book has a lot of valuable information, but this book is not for everyone. The book serves to remind therapists that we are human, but focuses on all the possible negative aspects of a therapists life and practice. I feel this book turns people away from seeking therapy or going into the profession. The book is written with an over-whelming negativity and a hint of arrogance. If you are looking for something to normalize your negative experiences as a therapist, then this is possibly the best book out there for you. If you are romantically involved with a therapist that you are concerned about, then this may be a good thing to read to better understand what may be going on. If you are new to the field, then read the book on and off as needed (if you must). If you are not a therapist or involved with one, then this book has nothing for you. Therapy, like every field, is a mixed bag. This book fails to acknowledge the goodness in the lives of those being a therapist.

Title (partially) a Misnomer
The Language of Business English is divided into three sections. The first section is devoted to grammar and covers 159 pages - the majority of the book. Part 2, 'Functions', contains some 42 pages. Then follows 4 pages of dictionary-type appendices followed by a Key and Index. Each section comprises a one- (or two-) page explanation section which follows the format 'Sample Sentences - Form - Uses', followed by a 'Task' section which follows the format 'Exercise 1, Exercise 2, Exercise 3, (Exercise 4) and Transfer'. Frankly, the exercises are dreary in their lack of imagination: gap-fills, lexical substitutions, sentence re-writes etc. The so-called 'transfer' invariably comprises the instruction "Write four examples of..." or something very similar. The authors say that this book is aimed at "intermediate level or above". This raises a few questions. If we consider 'advanced' level to be not too far off from native speaker competence, then certainly the vast majority of business students at "intermediate level or above" have been subjected to virtually all of the content of this book ad nauseum. What they need to make the transition from 'intermediate' to 'advanced' level are native speaker-like lexico-grammatical frames, stems, structures etc. that fall entirely outside the range of this essentially very traditional grammar book. And, frankly, those students who DO need to learn, for example 'the future with going to'(Unit 9), 'the passive'(Unit 23), 'so versus such'(Unit 56) etc. etc., are likely to have major problems with the explanation page of each unit. (E.g. "Already and yet both provide a frame of unfinished time; the time frame starts at an unspecified point in the past and continues to the present." p.14) The title of this book is "The Language of Business English: grammar and functions". We're being deceived here: the subtitle of the book is more indicative of the book's content. While lexis we may tend to associate with business is used in examples (e.g. "He said that they had signed the contract." p.84"), this is effectively yet another sterile grammar book. The small 'Functions' section contains nothing that one cannot find in any other similar grammar book. As for 'The Language of Business English'? Well that's another area entirely.

More futility of utility
Amazing for what it misses. Sato could have solved the problem advertised by Mirowski, but merely worked all around it without seeing it. Discusses the question whether it is legitimate to assume 'price as gradient of utility' from the standpoint of Frobenius' theorem (hitting a nut with a sledgehammer), but fails to apply similar horsepower to the Hamilton-Jacobi equation (discussed in the last pages). Therefore misses the main point: in optimization problems (Hamiltonian dynamics), price as a function of demand or supply ('price equals gradient of utility'), and utility itself, do not exist unless the Hamiltonian dynamical system is Liouville integrable (see my paper "The Futility of Utility").

Management cliches extravaganza
Well having this book as course material in International Marketing, we have concluded that this book actually drained knowledge from us. The management cliche extravaganza in this book is abundant. Howabout: A successful global marketing program is preferrable to an unsuccessful one. Wow, this taught us lots. Ok, so the introduction states that the book is meant for CEO's, we guess their knowledge is far superior to us mere mortals, so this book makes sense to them.
Do not bother reading beyond chapter one, what is presented in this chapter is repeated throughout the book. In order to support what is presented, the book grabs examples from the air in order to fit the theory.
In conclusion, we recommend not to buy this book. If you want a couple of hundred pages saying basically nothing in management language, this is the book for you.

worst text book I own
I am in my second year of graduate school and this is by far the worst textbook I own. The chapters are boring, dense, and extremely difficult to read. Only decent parts were the case studies.
