Great interactive CD
The interactive CD includes websites, video clips, audio clips, and tests, that increase interest in the subject matter. It's fun.

Interpersonally...
...I read this book for an undergraduate class and thought it was very good. One problem-- the final chapter was too brief, they should have split it into three like the previous edition.

Very complex with overlapping ideas
I am currently using the book for a managerial economics class and find the information confusing . Certainly a review of supply and demand (chapter 3) and its application of middle level managers is crucial and should have been placed before optimizing techniques (chapter 2). The assumption is the student or reader has just finished an introduction economics course and all the information is still fresh in the mind. Personally, I review all principles in this book with basic economic principles for a much clearer understanding of the topics.

Fairly Useful Refresher for a Graduate Level Student.
To be fair to the true value of the book, I would like to say that this book is a very useful, concise and all-round assortment of all the pre-existing economic concepts and techniques in their simplest and the most intuition-friendly form.

An undergraduate reader might find it a little challenging, but for a graduate level reader already seasoned in every aspect of economics, this would not only be an easy reading, but a very clear and insightful guide to economic rationale behind the theories they had taken for granted w/o giving its practical application much thought.

The beauty of this book for a graduate student, I think, is not in the treatment of highly advanced and feindishly complicated top of the line economic theories, but in the simple and insightful plain-langauge treatment of all the technical aspects of economics commonly and conventionally practiced in the economics discipline.

The value of this book for an undergraduate student majoring in economics or business may not be immediately evident w/o working hard at it, but rather would probably be appreciated a lot later when they are more comfortable w/ matrix algebra, calculus and econometrics.

Overall I rate this book a rare piece that balances well in the middle of the road between both graduate and undergraduate level audiences.

This forms an excellent introductory text to multimedia.
The book is written by people who are clearly aware of the issues involved in commercial multimedia production. It is well laid out and covers most topics - surprisingly it does not suffer too much from its age. Many of the tips and checklists remain valid even though the technology has moved on considerably since 1996. The text has been used on the very successful multimedia programme at Griffith University, Queensland, Australia.

every multimedia projectmanager should read this book
Any relevant subject about multimedia projects has been covered in a thorough way. It is a good combination of theory and practice. The checklists are very usefull as well.

Marketing Management and Strategy (2nd Edition)

Meet customers' needs more effectively than the competition
This book explores the role of marketing in the modern enterprise, presenting an up-to-date review of the most important concepts and techniques that managers need in order to analyse today's markets and to capitalise on the opportunities that are continually emerging. Marketing is the single most important determinant of success as the ability to satisfy-or delight-customers is the only determinant of an enterprise's ability to generate revenues. No enterprise exists for its own sake but rather its mission is to meet the needs of those customers it was created to serve.

Thus, marketing, according to author Peter Doyle, is the philosophy of management that recognises that the success of the enterprise is only sustainable if it can organise to meet the current and prospective needs of customers more effectively than the competition. Marketing tries to get the enterprise to develop and offer what the customer will find of real value. In this way, marketing seeks to build long-term, mutually beneficial partnerships between the enterprise and its customers.

This innovative book is for senior managers and those taking advanced marketing courses on MBA, CIM and similar post-experience programmes. It focuses on strategic planning and decision making in today's rapidly changing and highly competitive global markets.

Peter Doyle is Professor of Marketing and Strategic Management at the University of Warwick, where he heads both the executive and MBA programmes. He has previously held positions at INSEAD, London Business School, Bradford University, Stanford and the University of Hawaii. He is one of the world's leading academics and an experienced consultant on marketing and strategy. He has published five books and over 100 articles in professional journals. He has a First Class Honours degree from the University of Manchester and an MBA and a PhD from Carnegie-Mellon University.

A straight forward and concise read
At last a marketing and strategy text that is straight forward and easy to read. Not too much marketing bullshit, and a holistic approach that recognises that strategy is as important as the micro-marketing details. This was the foundation text for a recent MBA I completed and it enabled me to cover the classic Porter, Ansoff etc materials in a concise and integrated way. In addtion Doyle covers areas as diverse as corporate objectives and direct mail in sufficient detail without being boring or cursory. Solid stuff.

Neat Little Introduction
The history of economic thought has its fair share of textbooks that cater for introductory studies. Fusfeld's "The Age of the Economist" is one of these texts. Certainly, it is a close substitute for Robert Heilbroner's world-conquering "The Worldly Philosophers". Though not quite as good as Heilbroner in the story-telling department, Fusfeld is better in the area of breadth. "The Age of the Economist" covers a wider range of thinkers right up to the present. Also following Heilbroner, it makes an admirable attempt at fusing together the intellectual, sociological and economic influences shaping the thought of various individuals, schools and movements through time. This is a difficult, but essential task to perform in an introductory text, not least because it impresses upon the uninitiated the importance of taking account of the many and various influences upon the history of economic thought. This is something that is, sadly and, in my opinion, inexcusably neglected in more advanced texts. (Such texts should be properly entitled "Histories of Economic THEORY" rather than "Histories of Economic THOUGHT".) Anyway, Fusfeld does a good job in crafting an introductory history of economic thought text and includes a valuable bibliographical essay, thus enabling the curious reader to delve into the subject in greater depth.

Analytical Foundations of Marxism

Yes, Marx is still relevant in the 21st century
An interesting book, taking, as its title suggests, an analytical approach to Marxist ideas. Since there is no sense of sola scriptura among Marxists, every idea and assumption is open to critique (more so, even then among capitalists, for whom profit is an unquestionable Good). Tools such as game theory help bring Marxist ideas into better focus. Interestingly, many of the authors reach contradictory conclusions. As is all-to-common among contemporary social scientists, there is a tendency to obfuscate the prose with needless mathematics, but there is still quite a bit to be learned here.

A Classic
Every dedicated member of the coffee industry should read this book. It documents how coffee is not simply a business in Colombia...but a vibrant part of the nation's culture. Bergquist also offers a valuable insight as to how coffee and politics go hand and hand in Colombia. This is an excellent history book that includes a solid examination of the "War of One Thousand Days."

Dry reading, but intelligent
I used this book as a text for a history course at UC Riverside. The author unrolls his opinion eloquently in this book. Readers will gain a comprehensive history of Western Europe after WWII and its turn to social democracy. Urwin's chapters include topics of treaties, the EEC, and the dozens and dozens of economic and political arrangements; Europe is moving towards economic and political integration. Urwin would not suggest a United States of Europe, but a Union where the European members no longer swindle, cheat, war, or contest one another for supreme power. And Urwin does well showing the USA has competition to be reckoned with.
