i think this book is awful. please send me some information on it. i read it, but it was so confusing and had so many numbers and stuff, i didnt understand it at all. it would be so greatly appreciated if you could send me a summary of the book, that could help me in writing a 4 page report.
thank you, jojo evanick

A Smooth View of a Hard Reality
"The battered Moroccan bus heaved its bulk up the Atlas mountains, eroded by the tracks of a hundred absent streams." Nothing says it better than Paul does with his own words. This work is insightful, bringing the reader almost physically to dozens of different poverty-stricken locations, and well-written. Moreover, despite the harsh realities he presents, Paul's detailed description makes the experience fluid and enjoyable. "As dawn rises over the mud-walled royal palace at Ouagadougou, the emperor's horse, impatient in its heavy trappings of emerald, scarlet and gold, snorts and paws the ground." Yes, this book is definitely about global poverty, but it's written from a view you've never seen before. Embedded in the enchanting description is an awakening for the reader -- a new awareness of people and their struggles all over the planet.

Life changing...
If you've ever blamed poverty and underdevelopment on cultural or racial inferiority, or wondered why Europe and the West industrialized while other regions didn't, read this book. A friend just lent it to me, and I found it incredibly convicting. Learn how most of the world lives, and most importantly, why it does.

Very Good, But Not Excellent
As an undergrad taking his first finance class, I have have found this book to be quite useful. The concepts are explained in simplified, less-complicated ways and make reading each chapter less frustrating than perhaps some others (compared to some of the econ texts that I have had to use!).

It is well-written, concise, and employs some very straightforward, easy-to-follow graphs/diagrams. Also, both the formulas and the exercises at the end of each chapter are quite useful.

The only reason that I did not give it a 5-star rating is because some of the chapters did not use enough "real-world examples" or hypothetical situations in some of the more challenging lessons. This might better aid those students who are new to finance or simply need another angle to better grasp the idea.

Foundations of Financial Management, 10th Edition
Delivery was terrific. I received the book 6 days after I ordered it and it's brand new!

Excellent Finance Starter
This book is very easy to follow and serves as a good reference for more advanced finance classes.

Only for basic economics
This book is what I call "literary economics"; there is very little mathematical explination, which is good for students in the usual 100/200 level economics courses, but completely useless afterwords. I was assigned to read this in my junior year, and after the first ten chapters, reverted to another book, called 'MicrcoEconomics with Calculus'. I do not believe that the professors who recommend this book for juniors (or God forbid, seniors) have actually looked in it, for the math proofs are few and far between, and fairly simple. However, for Freshman/Sophomores, I recommend it; it is a good base of theory, from which you can (if you wish) continue later on with math proofs, which are vital for higher level economics.

If you are in an advanced course and need help with math, I cannot recommend Alpha Chiang's 'Fundamental Methods of Mathematical Eocnomics' high enough. This book was a God-send to a economics student who needed to bring his understanding up quickly. Thank you, Alpha.

A casual reader
Good advanced udergraduate. If you have a problem grasping concepts from this text, you need to think about another line of study.

a great introduction into microeconomics
Varian has done a great job. He got the balance between the math necessary for serious microeconomics, and the examples and jokes necessary to keep the students reading. Using the dual approach (household and producer behaviour), he introduces the reader into microeconomics at a level which makes it possible to move on to more esoteric books like his own 'Microeconomic Analysis', or 'Microeconomic Theory' by Mas-Colell, Whinston, Green. He manages to cover much more than Mankiw can, which is good and necessary to build a solid basis. Yet the book is accessible to anyone familiar with high school math (differentiation and optimization), and requires no economic prerequisites. He also covers several more advanced topics on a stand-alone basis (like economics of information, or game theory) which on the one hand is very useful, as it gives the reader an idea as to where one can head to, but on the other hand is not satisfying as these chapters are necessarily rather superficial. Apart from that, the book is great to built a rigorous basis for household and producer behaviour, and makes it rather easy to go on to much more advanced literature. The math is hidden in the appendices, so it is necessary for a serious understanding to cover these as well, but I don't see any problem with that. This book is as excellent as an introductory micro book can ever be.

this text hasn't included solutions manual that's big trouble for student

Missing major material
This book was required for my accounting class. It seems the have the holes of Swiss cheese though. While it probably covers the basics of Financial Accounting as well as any other book, it lacks some things that I thought would be entirely useful. For example only the odd exercises have the solutions in the back. Maybe it's just me, but I expect all since I'm in college. Furthermore, despite the copyright date of 2002, this edition contains a lot of old material. It lists Market Capitalization information about Microsoft from the spring and summer of 2000, the peak in stock prices. Also in the first chapter it speaks of accounting ethics and references a speech made in 1998 by the chairman of the SEC. It makes no mention to the scandals of Enron, WorldCom etc. (Enron declared bankruptcy on Dec. 2, 2001.) This edition appears to be just a desire by the authors to put out a new edition to limit the used book trade of the 7th edition and make more money for the authors.
If you can avoid it, do not buy this edition new.

excellent intro book!
excellent intro book! and a great read too ;)

Inaccurate and missleading
Working through this book on a skin care course was very frustrating. The medical terms used were inaccurate and often contradictory.

Althought the basic skin care isues were dealt with efficiently the anatomy and physiology references were not consistent with current medical text books.

This publisher has many better books. Avoid this one.

Great text!
This book is very thorough, up-to-date, and informative. I found it easy to read and follow, and the contents pages are very well-labeled, making it easy to find the desired information quickly. I would highly recommend this text to anyone looking to learn new skills or brush up on old skills.

So you want to learn about skin care, eh?
I also used this book as a text in Aesthetics School - and at the time, I didn't appreciate it as much as now - when I'm working in the field. I find myself going back and reviewing what I may have missed the first time.
This book has got it all!
- How to Portray a Professional Image (you'd be amazed how many don't know this! yikes...=0) )
- A History of Skin Care and Cosmetics
- Bacteriology
- Sterilization & Disinfection for salon safety
- Anatomy & Physiology
- Disorders of the Skin & Special Procedures
- Ingredient & Product Analysis
- Nutrition & Health of the Skin
- Client Consultation & Skin Analysis
- Massage Techniques
- and more....

I have the '99 version and found that it has helpful and effective to answer most questions that I may have had.
Sure, there are a few errors that can easily be modified - but they are not worth missing this book over!
Very Comprehensive and easy to tackle. I recommend!

Up to Date Ethical Situations
This book is very up to date on the ethics surounding business today. It thougholy explains the different theories and concepts of business ethics. I rate this book high on content, but low on context. This is a good book but is long and dry, this author repeats himself and does not always get to the point directly.

The book with show the ethical in doing business
This book will provide you with the ethic activities when doing business. You can learn from the various cases in this book that show you how good & bad to doing you business. Ethic its about do right or wrong that much depend from the social standard. From this book we can learn much enough how to threat your customers in the ethic way. In much case in this book will show you the unethical activities that doing by the company finally they have to face the lawsuit or crash down. Just read this book first before you serve your customer in ethic way.

Concise and well-written, although not perfect
I read this book as part of the first year of my MBA program and, in general, would recommend it to others with questions about business ethics. The book is quite well-written and a worthwhile read, although I would argue with some of Mr. Velasquez's conclusions.

Won't help with your business plan
Lets start with the good. Its broad and thorough, covering a range of topics.

If you are looking for a way to understand the basic (I underscore BASIC) economics of EC then this could be for you.

If you are in the business already, and looking to get some depth to your fundemental understanding of how to make money in EC, lets say for a business plan.. You should look somewhere else.

The book covers very elementary topics, and is not appropriate unless you are an undergraduate (e.g. what is a digital certificate, what are the economies of scale in software).

My feedback to the authors would be to take some real business models and include them as case studies. Of course since there are so few companies in the black, perhaps that would just scare off all the folks that read it from starting a business :-)

Good overview of the business economics of e-commerce
The book provides some new insights and useful models for both the student and the business person. A little superficial in some of the most exciting areas like virtual processes (process re-engineering based on electronic tools and enablers). Nonetheless, some good solid basics are to be found.

Excellent book. Very well written
I like the Authors' ability to handle the economic implications of digital versus physical products.

I recommend this book to any one who is interested in the Digital Economy. A must read for Internet Consultants!!!

I like it, BUT...
I am taking a college class, where this book is the required textbook. I am also a person that prefers to read things on screen than on the paper. This book came with a CD-ROM and with an InfoTrac subscription. And so I decided I would try out the CD and see what it has to offer. I was looking forward to browsing through the full text of the book, especially since I paid a lot of money for it, and well, WAS I IN FOR A HUGE SURPRISE!!! The entire CD is empty, except of a tiny (52KB) html file which redirects the user to the company webpage. WHAT A WASTE! A tiny floppy disk would have been enough, but NO it has to be a CD, since that looks better on the cover...

Anyways, I would recommend the book for anybody wanting to learn about Management the old way, on paper. If you, like me, enjoy using the new technologies, I would rather look further until I found a book that came with a CD that is actually worth the effort of putting it in the drive...

TL

pretty decent textbook
has some interesting parts. not too boring. i recommend.

A great investment for learning about management
I had the opportunity of reading the book as part of an MBA course. I found it difficult to put down. The content presented logically and discusses contemporary as well as historic theories. The writing style makes it very interesting to read.
Each concept is strengthened with business problems and solutions. There are helpful questionnaires, case study questions. They also help you understand your strengths and weaknesses. The great thing about it is that these problems are real ones. All the definitions are listed out on the margins which is great for quick reference and studying.
The CD-ROM has some useful clips and software. If you are new to management or want to brush up your managment knowledge my advice is - go for it.
Its a good book.

This is the book for CFA preparation
OK -- so you want to be a CFA. Then you probably will need to buy this book and you might even be told where to get it. Maybe you don't want to be a CFA -- then you will find that out reading this book. The point is -- this book covers the fundamentals of investing from a professional institutional investor's framework (or an MBA in finance student) and does a very good job of it -which is why this has been (and probably still is) a required text.

Excellent compendium of theory and practice
Whether encountered through an MBA equity analysis course or the CFA program, Investment Analysis will be an indispensable reference book for investment analysts, fund managers, and finance professionals for years to come. Although it is not an introductory finance text, it covers most of the basics. The book also delves on esoterica about derivatives, value investing, hydrid securities, and hedging. All in all, Investment Analysis is a good textbook that will be appreciated by academics, professionals and students alike.

Perfect intro
It is perfect for an introduction, and shows you the way where to learn more

Accouting Principles-too much text and not enough examples
This is a 27 chapter 1200+ page textbook. The main problem with this book is that there are plenty of questions at the end of each chapter, but there is no way to check your answers. There isn't even a book to buy in addition to this one that allows the answers to be reviewed. This in my opinion makes this a HORRIBLE text to learn from.

Good Textbook but too many errors for a 5th edition
This Textbook is a good teaching book, if the instructor isalso good. The drawback of this book is it overcomplicates severalareas and has the chapters set up in a bad order. The the biggest thing wrong with this book is it has several errors in the book and even more in the working papers. The book does however make a good introduction of accounting and covers the subject well.

Good comprehensive book
I would have given full praises for this excellent writing. It did help me to understand better the subjects in my degree courses. The explainations are clear and direct with interesting colourful examples. 'Feature story' on the start of each chapter section give an insight for real world examples and 'Accounting in action' do explore the critical thinking on the issue. 'Review It' and 'Do It' sections help the students to test their understanding before reading on further. Exercises and cases at the end of each chapter will enhance students' learning and knowledge abilities. My lecturer highly recommends this book since it is comprehensive and the illustrations give better pictures about the whole chapter. Since this book also includes theoretical aspect of accounting, it is excellent as a basic for students who would like to learn the accounting principles.
