As a college instuctor,
I found the book to be pretty detailed and the lessons nicely layed out and easy for students to use. The sreen prints were colorful but sometimes the content of the screens did not match the book. The lessons are available to download at the publishers web site. The content of the leasons, have you jump right into databases and some sudents got a little lost. I have still had a problem in obtaining any instructor support. Overall the book is one of the better instruction materials that I have used in the past.

Strong book in a great ASTD e-learning series!
If you have anything to do with e-learning, your new "must-have" library should include Leading E-Learning and the other books in the ASTD E-Learning Series. Whether you are a chief learning officer, training manager, or instructional designer, this set of books will guide you through all phases of planning, development and evaluation. The series includes:
* Leading e-Learning, by William Horton, starts as the series' primer, defining the different types of e-learning, it's benefits, the importance of standards, and how to put together a team.
* Selling e-Learning, by Darin Hartley, provides a roadmap for gaining organizational support for e-learning initiatives, conducting a cost-benefit analysis, and how to build a formal case presentation.
* Evaluating e-Learning, by William Horton, shows the value of formal evaluations and explains in simple language how to apply the 4-level Kirkpatrick model to e-learning projects.
* Using e-Learning, by William Horton, illustrates how training departments can evolve into profit centers as e-learning improves operations and sales, while making performance improvement programs available to more people.

The ASTD e-Learning series is designed for action. Each book weighs in at very readable 100 - 150 pages. In addition to self-check exercises, each volume includes ample worksheets, case studies, online calculators, visual models, and lists of resources.

a stitch in time
This book is easy to understand. It gives a view of what happened at a critical time with a new technology. (1980 - 1990) It has a timeline and explains all those acronyms you hear but never knew what they were. Here a man was clearly building an empire and it was not simple or easy. You can see how just a small thing affected all our lives. It continues today.

This is a revised and expanded edition of the first-ever book focusing on financial applications of neural networks. This widely-acclaimed classic provides portfolio managers, institutional investors, bankers, and analysts with a comprehensive and fascinating introduction to this important technology and numerous insights into its most effective use.

The promise of computers has always been their ability to extend the capacity of human mental processes. Nowhere is that promise more fully realized than in neural networks and in no field are the implications of greater economic significance than finance.

An excellent research reference on the subject
This book is an excellent book on the application of Neural networks to the financial world. This is a collection of articles for the knowledgeable in the area of finacial investments and Neural Networks. With this in mind this book constitutes an excellent reference book to any graduate course in any finance dept to apply intelligent decision making to financial estimates and investments. It is a reference book for all those out there who are thinking about doing research in this area. Both authors have written lots of publications in the area and that is a plus. Even though this book is getting to be little bit old, a new book coming out by the by the same first author and the same company seems to be an updated review on the subject and promises to become a reference too. Excellent refence!

Too much introductive
Since there is few books on financial application of Matlab, I would say that Mr. Brandimarte has done a good pretty good job. I liked especially the fact that the book covers many topics (bond pricing, derivatives, optimization), however, even if the title says "an introduction", it is still too much introductive and you don't get a grip on the amazing capabilities of Matlab. This book is suitable for people discovering Matlab and Finance at the same time.

Uncomparable educational resource
When I first read this book, I was amazed by the effort made by the authors. Every example is an real life task and all tasks are well programmed. Chapters are arranged in a easy understanding page. I use this as my staff training and modify some for my students' training. I think I cannot go into my classroom without this now.

Brief About This Book
Overall the book is good from a scholastic pont of view , delivers its strength in projects. Lacking in the important OUTLOOK feature of Office 2000 which is widely in use these days. The projects are nicely covered with visuals and good for beginers and internediate level learners.
