Great resource
This books includes alot of great, sound information, and is detailed enough to allow a person to discuss the options with their attorney/CPA. It does not provide enough info to allow the nonprofessional to draft any documents. A little disappointed that nearly all of the wealth transfer techniques deal with CRTs. However, they are described in the context of their application in different scenarios, which provides a clear illustration of their benefits (which are significant). In summary, this book provided a number (about a dozen) great ideas for using ones assets to generate income while alive and transferring the assets to children with reduced estate taxes.

Altruism and Beyond : An Economic Analysis of Transfers and Exchanges within Families and Groups
Published in Hardcover by Cambridge University Press (08 June, 1995)
Author: Oded Stark
Amazon base price: $52.95
Average review score:

An Outstanding Contribution
This is an outstanding book, one that economists and other social scientists interested in household behavior will find extremely interesting. It is a collection of six lectures on a variety of "economics of the family" topics. In most cases, Stark provides new and very intriguing ways of explaining household behavior. For example, we often observe adults giving money to their elderly parents. Why? Conventional explanations include altruism (people care about their parents) and "exchange" (money is given in exchange for services, e.g., elderly parents are taking care of grandchildren). Stark suggests an alternative explanation: people give money to parents to "demonstrate" the appropriate behavior to their own children. The hope is that the children will, in turn, transfer money to the parents once they become adults. This hypothesis generates testable predictions, and empirical work supporting these predictions is also presented.

Other topics Stark addresses include the reasons for investments in human capital (which may be linked to the timing of expected bequests), the motivation for remittances by migrants, the reasons why migrants may do better (e.g., in the labor market) than native born workers, and other. Again and again, Stark suggests new and interesting ways of thinking about these issues.

Most chapters contain "technical" sections that readers without graduate training in economics are unlikely to be able to follow. In all cases, however, the main points are also explained in plain English, so that even the non-initiated can understand the arguments and gain much from reading the book.

Arms and the State : Patterns of Military Production and Trade
Published in Hardcover by Cambridge University Press (23 July, 1992)
Authors: Keith Krause, Steve Smith, Thomas Biersteker, Chris Brown, Phil Cerny, Joseph Grieco, and A. J. R. Groom
Amazon base price: $59.95
Average review score:

This work is of great use to the student of arms trade.
Krause's work is of great importance to the study of arms trade. His is one of the few studies that seek to place arms trade in a systemic context. He argues that technology plays a dynamic role in state arms trade behavior, and the military-technical level of states divides them roughly into four levels. Further, he argues that military technology is cyclical. Technological revolutions occur that allow one or a few states to take a dominant position, then technology diffuses throughout the system. However, those states that are able to harness the new technology early, have an insurrmountable advantage, and remain dominant until a new revolution takes place.

Krause's argument is logical and well supported by statistical evidence. Perhaps more importantly, it has great heuristic value. By putting arms trade in a systemic context, it provides the foundation for better contemporary study of arms trade.

This work is required reading for anyone wishing to better understand international arms trade and military technology.

ATM architecture and Implementation
This is an excellent book for anyone who wants a straight forward explanation of what ATM is and how it functions. First of all, the book is not to long; so when you look back through the book, you can easily find the information you want. Secondly, it is laid out in a logical format; you don't have to read a ton of pages before getting the answers you are looking for. Other books spread information about a specific topic throughout the book. With this book, you can learn the concepts you are looking for on a single page. This books strongest attribute is how the information is presented. Related information is presented simultaneously, not hidden until the next chapter. When I was writing a research paper on ATM, I found this book to be my favorite by far.

A Celtic crafters
If you love Celtic decoration, and would like small designs to incorporate into your work this is a perfect book. The designs are small, but still large enough to work with and are wonderful to embroider. They can also be used for other crafts such as woodburning. The designs are varied with usually more than one size of a design style, and each transfer (in most cases) can be used more than once. The only drawbacks I see are the fact that the design cannot be washed out so, if you are embroidering it you need to be sure to cover all the lines, and because there are several designs on a page they must be cut out to work with which in most cases leaves you with a tiny piece of paper to work with. Making it difficult to pin it down and to iron. But it is a wonderful book of designs and the pluses far outweigh those two negatives. Dover tends to publish some wonderful transfer books at extremely reasonable prices and this book truly fits in both catagories.
