This is a great book! Al Valdez has done an excellent job of summarizes the existing gang information avaliable. It is an easy to read book, that is valuable to law enforcers, educators, students, or interested citizens

Detective Valdez has also included gangs that are generally not covered in other similar books. He writes about occult gangs, and militias.

I highly recommend this to anyone intersted in learning more about gangs in the U.S.

This book gives all the information you need to know for a quick and thorough understanding of gangs. I have been fortunate to meet Al Valdez and he knows his stuff! Whether you are a cop, like me, or a parent, like me, this is a book you need. His unique insight and writing ability give you practical information and advice from the real world.

Outstanding!! I have read several text on gangs in my 18 years of law enforcement experience, this one is the best one yet. The book is not only informative but easy to follow and entertaining as well. Mr. Valdez covers the history and main identifiers of basically every major gang in this country. If you know nothing about gangs, this is an excellent book for a beginner. If you thank you know all there is to know about gangs, read this book and learn how much more there is to know.

This book is excellent. I would highly recommed you get it. It is the first out of three. A normal family of four rent a summer house. But their two children have realised they are not alone. The children tell their parents but claim they have a wild imagenation. What is the secret to the old house in cherry street? Well, The children are about to find out.

The book House On Cherry Street was about Jason his sister Sally and his baby-sitter Katie, It also had an evil which and a ghost named Bobby. It all started happining when Jasons parents went on a buisness trip and katie came to watch them and this ghost Bobby was trying to scare away katie cause it didn't like baby sitters but katie wouldn't beleive any thing that Jason said but things kept on happning and finally she saw it and believed it then the whitch was tyring to get them but sjhe didn't and they got bobby were he belonged.

I didn't like it at all. I read part 1 of this book and it was good. This book didn't even close to as good as the other one. The author kept describing one thing and that wasn't bad. The only thing that was wrong, is that it ended the complete opposite of what I thought. I didn't like the ending either. At the end of every chapter, it had a good cliffhanger. When you read the next chapter, it didn't have much to do with the cliffhanger or it ended up not being good. The book kept you in suspence most of the time, but it wnt away too fast. You could guess who was making all of the trouble by just reading the first couple chapters. All of the main characters in th book were really cool and they stayed in my mind really well. Overall, I thought that this book wasn't that good, but I liked it a little. It would have been better if the story was mre suspenceful and the cliffhangers would end in a different way. One of the lessons I learned in this novel is never underestimate people no matter who they are. They could do anything at anytime. If you are thinking of reading this book, I wouldn't recommend it. I would grade this book a 2 on a scale from 1-10. .

KING, by John Berger is a poetic novel written entirely in stacato. It is a urban tragedy that takes place in an imaginary city (Barcelona, Paris, Glasgow, London or the city where I live in Lisbon) somehow like the city of Troy in another one of Berger's novel. It tells the story of one day in the life of a group of homeless carachters, with lots of even more poetic flash backs. All this is told to us, like an ancient greek narrator, that participates, observes and tells the story, by a dog or someone that believes he is a dog because everyone there has to find a way in the middle of the wreck and this is King's way to stand this living hell that is called poverty, a kind of a plague that nowadays is getting to even more people in the world. Nothing happens in the whole novel at least till the last chater, where the tragedy reveals itself... there's a mist of a tragedy in this whole novel that never really takes form of a terrific drama. There is a dense but soft and slow (like the plague that is taking control all over the place) tension.

Why does Berger, that in his last books criticized with such a distant look the urban and capitalist way of life, take this "dog" and lets him sign a book about a couple of homeless that live the rest of their lifes in a city, a "desert of souls"? It may seem like he is living in a city like this for a lot of years and full of watching his life being drained he decided just to release a book that has a critic point of view about it. But if you know Berger's work you will know that this is his most isolated, exhilated, distant and critic book about capitalism, the deception of the urban dream and the globalisation. In fact, Berger has a strong influence of lots of other authors like Giambattista Vico (the name of the main carachter is Vico, the name of the great italian philosopher that, like a prophet, said that every civilisation had to pass through four stages and the last one - il ricorso - is in fact the one we are living in, the AGE OF DOGS), Marx, Pascal and Beckett (a strong influence in most of his works and specially in this one we can find some great similarities).

Resuming, KING is a book to read when a person is feeling good. Like Berger (or King) says: "To read a man needs to love himself, not much but a little."

King is a pearl and like Goethe said: "A well trained dog is worth the respect of the most wise man" and Mr. Berger has trained him well.

Mr. Berger uses man's best friend to describe the human existence of the homeless. The 24 hours of experiences the canine "King" relates, had to be told by an animal other than a human, it could not otherwise work. Man as an animal shares many commonalities with the rest of the animal kingdom. As time passes skills we thought unique to ourselves are becoming fewer, I would offer speech as an example. One only has to read of the care that Elephants treat their dead and dying, the ways they revisit their dead to understand that compassion too is something we have yet to master.

We can claim something that is unique to our group. We kill our own, we torture our own, we systematically exterminate and ethnically cleanse our own. And as King relates to us we lack the compassion for those we would prefer to ignore rather than to help. There is a moment when the act of dousing a sleeping man with gasoline and lighting him afire is described as the death of a heretic. King muses the heretic's crime, could it be he is poor?

This book can be easily dismissed as being nothing new and that perhaps is the point. We have become a group that is nearly impossible to shock, the youngest of our group now kill aimlessly, and older members kill the youngest with no more concern than swatting a insect. Those with power persecute the weak; it has become all but a sport.

Mr. Berger's book is important because it shows behavior that should be contemptible, but has become so common, so cliché, it is rarely even contemplated. He needed to use a dog to bring attention to a human problem because a person is not qualified to comment on how we behave.

An important book by a talented man who has lived a long life, and clearly is less than impressed with what he has seen.

Prose that is poetry. A must for any fan of John Berger. And for readers that don't know his work it should be a revelation. An extraordinary, moving, and passionately empathetic book.

Though, it has been many years since I read this one, I will
never forget its content. After reading this one, you will
reexamine your values and definitely have a deeper insight
into how and why this country was founded.

Read this book in 1980, lost the copies I had and FINALLY found it- thanx to amazon.com.. Got me and many other people i introduced it to thinking: Could this be true? Is it that easy? What are the repurcussions? Will I, or any one else, get in to trouble following the authors suggestions? Where can I find more information on this subject? Where can I find a lawyer to represent me should I get in to a 'jam' with the "powers that be" by following these ideas? The second best book I've ever read on this subject; am still, waiting for the first best...

I read this book in l984 and I was amazed. Something which is seemingly so complex is actually quite simple. Mr. Saussy gives the reader an excellent explaination of the intent of the constitutional framers in regard to our money system and to the honesty which such a system produces. For years I wondered about Mr. Saussy and only tonight I learned that he has returned and he has written a new non-fiction book for his audience. F. Tupper Saussy has returned and freedom lovers have an important symbol back! Read this book if you can.

I've been to the French Quarter twice in the last year. I think I left my heart there! It's such a beautiful city with so much history, and so many great and colorful people! This CD does the city justice and then some! The pictures are glorious, and I don't think there's a block in the Quarter they missed. You can take a variety of "guided" tours, or you have the option of clicking on a map of the Quarter. The map let's you click and see just about every square inch of the Quarter. There aren't a lot of interior pictures on this CD if that's what you are looking for. There are also panoramic views which are great, and an area to "meet" a couple of people from the French Quarter and get some info and perspective from them. This is just a really great buy for anyone who wants to travel to New Orleans' French Quarter, or for people like me who absolutely love the city!

I tried this CD after viewing the Armchair Tour of Charleston, SC, and I think this one is even better. Tons of information and great photos. I'd love to be able to visit the French Quarter every few months, but failing that opportunity, this has got to be the next best thing.

Wow! The quality of the pictures and the effect of the panoramic feature was impressive. New Orleans French quarter is one of my wife and I's favorite places to visit. The use of the DVD shows us some of the houses that we have not visited plus things about the ones that we have that we missed- decorative vents in the buildings. I particularly enjoyed the lady with the Cajun accent doing the audio. Love the dialect. This helps us plan our next trip. Good job.

Certainly veteran New Yorkers will snicker that they don't need "Fodor's Flashmaps New York" to get around town. And they may very well be right. However, as a New Yorker with many international friends I field countless queries about what to do in New York City when you get here. Let's be honest...the Big Apple is gigantic. And no matter how well versed you are about New York City...things change so quickly in this town that it is smart to have this tidy little book around just in case you happen to suffer from brainlock.

And then of course sometimes friends ask for help for things for the kids or for their young teens. Moreover, some queries are specifically for daylight hours, nightlife, weekend activities or happenings in boroughs outside of Manhattan. This text can help. Additionally, Fodor's includes essential telephone numbers for hotels, places of worship, ballparks, schools and universities, airports, transportation, museums, art galleries, parks, shopping, dining, theaters, movies, libraries, consulates, hospitals and hip nightlife activities. Fodor's even provides zip codes but no e-mail addresses.

This book is a great tool. It's small and can easily slip into the inside of your sports coat or if you have a normal size purse, just pop it in and you're set. Or better yet...carry it around in your back pocket (it fits). There are 61 maps and thousands of listings. It will help you walk around, take buses, ride the subways or take railways into the suburbs. In my opinion it clearly is worth the investment for metropolitans or for anyone who wants to visit New York City. One thing is for sure...it will save you plenty of time, and as everyone knows...time is an important commodity.

I don't know how the conversation started, but I was at the Union Square store of a major competitor of Amazon, let's just call it FarmStructures & Nobel Booksellers, and the security guard told me that he had relied on this book as a native New Yorker for years. So I bought it.

And now *I* have relied on it for years.

Whether you are looking for where the 'D' train crosses the '7' or where exactly Cornelia Street is anyway, this book is excellent. Museums, movie theaters, road maps and highways are all here. The shopping and restaurants sections are good for out-of-towners looking for the classics, less useful for New Yorkers looking for the next new thing, obviously.

It's small, convenient, and well-drafted (the maps themselves are different colors so you can readily find what you're looking for as you flip through ' yellow is street /subway; pink is daytime attractions; black/blue for nighttime attractions). All in all, anybody living in or visiting New York frequently would find this useful. If you are a one-time tourist, though, you're probably better off going with something more comprehensive like Lonely Planet.

I bought this book a little over a year ago and have used it for several business trips. It is small and easy to carry, doesn't look touristy, and gives me a lot of confidence getting around Manhattan. The best $ I ever spent. You know how some people just seem to "know" New York even though they don't live there? Well, that's me now.

It was a commonly used story line, but Kel Johnson was able to do it differently, in an unsually heartfelt way. It made me laugh at her wit, and cry for their pain.

What a great book to curl up and read with! A great present for all!

The sex scenes were steamy, the friendship between the two characters was believable, and the story line was out of a modern day fairy tale.

"The Man Who Made Wall Street" is exceptionally written. Not an esoteric financial biography, yet deep enough for an intellectual discussion. Within the folds of 200 pages, you get a sense of the real person behind the financial machine. It is a brilliant biographical account of the leading figure in the financial world of the nineteenth century. There are many things you can take from this book. For me, it revealed that even 'starving' artists can find creative ways to make it and that there is often more to the person who chooses to remain behind the scenes.

As a great-great-great grandson of A.J. Drexel, it was a pleasure to read this book and to learn about my famous ancestors. It is crazy to think that many of his progeny have a difficult time balancing their checkbooks today. Before this book, my knowlege of the Drexels had been limited to family lore.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading Dan Rottenberg's informative book The Man Who Made Wall Street. The book contains all there is to know about the wise and amazingly successful nineteenth century financier Anthony Drexel and the profound role he played as a mentor to the young J. Pierpont Morgan. I especially enjoyed reading about financial systems and processes in nineteenth century America that author Rottenberg describes so well in his new book.

I've profited handsomely in a real-time portfolio over less than 6 months from ideas accumulated from my reading of this nice collection of articles. Before picking up this text, I expected it would contain mainly writings from Graham's earliest years --writings destined to be melded into the first edition of "Security Analysis." There are a couple of such pieces, but I was most taken with the pieces written towards the end of his life. Some of these are interviews. Graham generated financial ideas for the individual investor until the very end of his life, and this book is currently the only published repository for these. I'm not sure if someone just coming to Benjamin Graham will derive the greatest benefit from this book, but anyone who has a passiing familiarity with "Security Analysis", "The Intelligent Investor" and "The Interpretation of Financial Statements" will derive great pleasure and a goodly number of valuable insights from this collection.

This book give a concrete two factor formula for buying below market value investments without needing the more extensive balance sheet analysis as used in the "Intelligent Investor" or "Security Analysis".

Janet Lowe's book delivers. Want to know what a genius of finance thinks about investing, the stock market and economics? Buy this book. Each time I read it, I discover a new insight which previously eluded me. Truly a great book and I recommend it to all investors of any level of investment sophistication.
