Sesame Street Unpaved: Scripts, Stories, Secrets, and Songs

Most fun book since....well, me not know!
As soon as I opened this book, I knew I had to have it! I admit, in my 30's, I still am an avid Sesame Street fan and love to watch it when I am lucky to find myself at home on the occasional morning. Reading it propells you back and forth through the time and history of TV's best characters, comic bits, and poignant moments. Can't wait to get home from work and read some more!

Your favorite memories of Sesame Street all in one book!
I can believe how much this book captured the wonder of Sesame Street so completely and wonderfully. While I'm not 30, only 19, the book was still a memorial item to read. I remembered everything except for Big Bird and Oscar's transformations and Mr. Hooper's or should I say Looper's death simply because I wasn't born yet or too young. I even still watch the show occasional because I love the muppets so much and the book helped to bring all my favorite childhood memories back. Ernie and the clay statue of Bert was one of my favs. And all the little stories and cute facts about the muppets and human cast made the book the best.

Great for teenagers who are into Sesame Street
I found out about this book from a website. It shows a lot of secret facts about the origins of such characters and their names, and describes some old clips, most of which are still used on the show.
But the show has changed a little since the book was published and some details are slightly outdated or not included, for instance the producer's name changed in 2000, Mr. Handford no longer runs Hooper's Store(what happened to him?), Gina became a vet in 2001, and the Fix-it Shop became the Mail-it Shop in 2002.
Buy it and you'll have plenty of flashbacks of the show!

Another winner
STREET MAGIC, the second book of Pierce's The Circle Opens quartet, is a story which ought to satisfy all of her fans and leave them asking for more. Still far from being one of Tamora Pierce's best books, STREET MAGIC continues her trend of bringing the books in The Circle Opens quartet to a more mature level.

Briar Moss and his teacher Rosethorn have traveled to the city of Chammur, where they are employed to revive the plants dying in the "tired" earth. It is while he is visiting one of the open Bazarrs there that Briar comes across Evvy, a young street-rat who in unknowingly in possession of stone magic. As with Sandry in MAGIC STEPS, Briar suddenly finds himself responsible for Evvy when the only other stone mage in the city flatly refuses to teach Evvy, or at least to do so in an acceptable manner. On the side, Briar must deal with the escalation of a multi-gang war going on throughout the city.

As I said, this is far from being one of the best books by Tamora Pierce, but I found it to be not half-bad. I like how she is bringing more dimensions to the lives of the four Winding Circle Mages, and making her stories more complex, mature, and different.

Briar the Plant Mage at fourteen!!!
It's been four years since Briar Moss left Winding Circle Temple in SummerSea . Now he is in Chammur. There he meets Evvy. She is a 10 year old girl who uses her magic to polish stones for a local merchant. When Briar try's to talk to her she flees. Finally , she gives in and Briar starts teaching her about her magic. Then, a local gang called the Vipers here Briar say that Evvy has stone magic so they try to kidnap her to make a profit on her ability. In the meantime the Vipers are trying to take over Camelgut territory with the help of a rich noble. She gives them weapons and the Vipers start a war with the Camelguts. I won't spoil the whole book. All I can say is that this book is right up there with all of her other wonderful, marvelious, outstanding, terrific quartets. I highly reccomend this book. Only if you can manage complex plots and many confusing parts. I hope many of you out there have lots of acadimic ability!!!!!! Farewell!

Best in the series
Well, it's a really good book, and an exellent addition to the circle of magic, and my favorite. Even though Tris, Daja, and Sandry aren't included in this book, it is still really good.
In this book I think it really shows how powerful Briar really is. in all the other books, Tris was the powerful one, but Briar is here to give her a run for her money as he works his way through a phonomal book.

This book is full of School Spirit and Spirits!
Cheerleading has never been so scary!
If you've ever read a R.L. Stine Fear Street then you'll probably think this book is fantastic as I did. As usual R.L.Stine has a way of writing that draws you in with wicked cliffhangers and the book is no chore to get through. Quick and fun these books make me at 20 want to reread all the ones I have. This one is about to sisters who move to Shadyside and join the Screa-excuse me I mean, Cheerleading team. This being Shadyside you know your in for extreme chills and thrills!

I thought it was the best book I have ever read.
When I read this book the first time I could not put it down. After I read it I wanted to get the rest of the series. I wasn't much of a scary book reader but now I know from this book that scary books are cool. Now I want to get the rest of Fear Street books.

Read em' All!!
I've read all of the books in the cheerleader series (even though i'm not a fan of the particular sport) and let me tell you that they are addicting. The storyline and characters are original and when some of my favorite characters died I couldn't help but tear up a bit:( [Basically there is an evil spirit that takes over people's body and make them KILL...the problem is you never know who the evil has inhabbited and in the end you're eventually to late to stop them.
DEFINITELY A MUST READ!!

I agree with the reviewer from San Mateo regarding Sept. 17
Isn't it really all so obvious that September 17th never even bothered to read this book?I've reread this book 4 times and never, repeat never saw anything where Wade Cook says that somebody made a million dollars in one day. Also, this is not just Wall Street Money Machine Vol. 1 on a "new cover", yes some parts are similiar, but there is also more informaion on rolling stocks, covered calls, stock splits which are NOT covered in Wall Street Money Machine Vol 1 PLUS new strategies not covered like naked puts and tandem plays and more.September 17th, try reading the book first before writing a review, better yet, try using the strategies and see for yourself how well they work. You'll be glad you did!

You'll want to add this one to your library
Wall Street Money Machine-Stock Market Miracles is an excellent companion to Wall Street Money Machine for the new millenium. It goes beyond WSMMFTNM and covers more information like selling puts and tandem plays. As for the advertisements, I think the bashers mean testimonials and whats wrong with listing success stories? I enjoyed this book and made money with the strategies. Recently, I bought puts on Cpq for 1/16 and sold them for 7/16 five days later using the peak strategy that Wade talks about. I knew Cpqs run wasn't sustainable based on valuations of their stock. There is a wealth of information in these books. Use them and benefit from them.

328% 1 day return! Thanks Wade!
Following the advice by Wade Cook in WSMM Vol. 2, I bought December 55 calls on THO on a stock split announcement. I bought @ (---) and sold @ (---) for a fantastic 328% 1 day return. If it wasn't for this excellent book by Wade, I never would have known how to do this. Thanks Wade! Looking forward to Wall Street Money Machine Vol. 7!!

One of The Best
I have read most of the Fear Street books, but bad moonlight tottaly rocks! I is sooo unlike any of the other Fear Street books. You would think that a book like this would be tottly out-there, but they explian everything in the end.

Bad Moonlight
this book was AWESOME!!! you would never geuss who the killer was! it was so upsetting when I found out, I almost cried! it's kinda gross, the visions that Danielle has at the doctors but he stops her before anything else gross happens. the end is kind of complicated, I had to read it 3 times to make sure I got it right! the ending is so shocking!

The Best Book Ever!!!
When I read this book, it gave me the chills...but i loved it! After the end of each chapter, I HAD to read the next and the next! I definetly think this is the absoulote best book I have ever read...thats why I give it 5 stars!

Second Book in the 99 Fear Street: The House of Evil Series
More than a year after "The First Horror" ended, 11th-grader Brandt McCloy and his parents are moving into the 99 Fear Street house. Not long after they arrive, strange things start to happen: Brandt's cat is killed by a flying spear (just curious--why do all pets have to die horribly in Stine's books?), someone or something is moving around at night in the attic, and Brandt finds Cally Frasier's diary, which is mysteriously still being written in.

Apart from the terror at home, Brandt is becoming very popular with the girls at Shadyside High, in particular with Abbie Ayler, Jinny Thompson, and Meg Morris. However, the ghost of Cally Frasier intends to harm everyone Brandt is close to, including the above-mentioned girls. What can Brandt do to protect everybody, including himself, from Cally's pent-up rage? (By the way, since when did Cally get so angry? Maybe it's because she's now part of the evil in the house, but it just seems so out of character. In the first book, she was rather nice.)

Like the first book in this trilogy, "The Second Horror" is just as bad, and I don't mean "bad" as in "good". The ending is unbearably awful, and the plot is just plain silly. So, unless you're a really loyal R. L. Stine fan, I'd skip this trilogy ("The First Horror", "The Second Horror", and "The Third Horror").

the scariest stine book written really
this story is a must for any stine fan like me. the book is gory scary and it actually involves the whole family instead of just one teen. the book can also be sad sometimes but is totally unpredictable. sure its just a haunted house taken to the extreme but this house was so evil in the book that it was indeed sad. but even though it ended with a not so wonderful ending (like most stine books.) but its an awesome book and a must for any stine fan.

A really good book, but only if you read the first 2!!
This is a really good book with a very good ending. Let me tell you, I sure wasn't expecting the kind of ending I got. The first two are very good too! R.L. Stine is a really good writer. One of my favorites. In the first book, "The First Horror", R.L. Stine has a great plot! An evil house? Cool! Right? Well, the second one, "The Second Horror", (these titles are very original!) has a great storyline too! If you liked the first one, the second one is definetly a must! This evil house and it's ghost has a new victim, or does it? The third one, "The Third Horror", really wraps things up with her making a movie about what happened in "The First Horror". So, these 3 great books are a real MUST!! Thumbs up!

Someone hates Josie...
Josie's life has never been the same ever since her twin sister Rachel fell of a horse and got brain damage. But now Josie's life has changed even more. Someone is sending her threatening valentines. Josie hopes these valentines are just a prank. They're not. There really is a Valentine's Day killer out there who wants Josie dead.

I would've given this book five stars except for two reasons. The first one is that many questions are not answered at the end of the book. The second one is that any R.L. Stine fan knows that the obvious isn't the killer. The killer is pretty obvious, although they're not the number one suspect. If you ignore all of that stuff, the book is very good. And don't read the book because the summary on the back seems interesting. It's very misleading. If you read the book, you'll know what I mean.

Oh, and there is a short cameo by Cory Brooks. Cory starred in "The New Girl," the first ever Fear Street book.

Summary:

Erica, Josie, and Rachel McClain are sisters. In the beginning of the book Josie, Rachel, Erica, and Rachel and Josie's friend Melissa are in the car. Erica is Josie and Rachel's little sister. Josie and Rachel are twins. They are on their way to go horseback riding. They get there and when they are putting their saddles on the horses Rachel's is loose and asks Josie to tighten it for her. They are riding along, and Rachel's horse starts to speed up. He speeds too fast and Rachel falls off and hits her head.
The book goes on to the next February. Rachel is okay, but she is mentally ill, and needs care, and cannot be alone by herself. Josie never takes care of her. It is always Erica who takes care of her when Rachel needs to be cared for. Erica is very frustrated by this. Rachel's boyfriend Luke is over there almost everyday. Luke blames Josie for Rachel's illness. Josie thinks that he is pathetic and he needs to get on with his life. Josie begins to receive threatening valentines, threatening that she will be dead on Valentine's Day. Rachel is always having a gleeful look on her face. One day after Josie comes home from hanging out with Steve she finds her dog Muggy dead on the floor. Josie is scared but her boyfriend Steve insists that it is a joke. Valentines Day comes, and Josie and Steve have a date to go ice-skating. Later on that night, the doorbell rings. Erica answers it and police officers reveal the news that Josie is dead and has been murdered with an ice skate. Melissa is talking to her boyfriend Dave the next morning, while they are getting breakfast. Melissa realizes he looks troubled. He tells her that he wrote the threatening valentines as a joke because he disliked Josie a lot. Dave really thought she deserved the joke. But he kept telling Melissa that he didn't kill her. She believed him but he wanted to get his evidence back so the police didn't think that he did kill her. He goes to the McClain's house, to get back the Valentines. He hears someone walking up the stairs and goes to see who it is. Erica has been stabbed by a letter opener and he knelt down to her and took out the letter opener. To his luck the police had walked up the stairs, while he had the letter opener in his hand.
Then the book brings you to the following February and Dave had been sent to boarding school upstate. Erica had recovered, but she was still in shock. Melissa is now going out with Luke, because he figured he needed to get on with his life. Melissa now begins to receive threatening valentines. Automatically Luke thinks its Dave. She compares the letter that he had sent her and the two valentines she had gotten. To their surprise the writing had matched. Then shortly after that Dave's mother had called, rather concerned. Dave had run away from his boarding school, and his mother believed that he would go to Melissa's house. A few nights later Melissa is sleeping and hears a noise outside. She thinks it's a burglar until she sees Dave jump into her room. She is startled that he is there. He is destined to clear his name and find Josie's real killer. He looks at the writing on the valentines because when Melissa accused him he assured her this was a false accusation. He says he knows who the killer is and disappears. Then Melissa is watching Rachel while Erica is trying out for a play. Later that night Melissa hears a sound outside, and looks outside he doesn't see the face of the prowler but he saw her long red hair. Rachel's hair. Then the police come and ask when they discovered the body of the dead boy. The dead boy is Dave. Who is killing everyone?

Review:

I think this book is very good. It has many details. I think it is very long, and if you don't like getting deep into books, you may get confused. There are a lot of people, and there are a lot of murders. If you can't remember things, you will also get confused because of all the people, and the murders. There is a prologue, which takes place when Rachel McClain was still normal. Then it takes you to February. Josie resents Rachel. She almost never wants to see her. Rachel also always has a gleeful look on her face when somebody is hated, or murdered, or hurt. I think this definitely shows something. In general this book was very good, the author included a lot of detail so I could picture what was happening in my head.the book was very interesting, there were three parts, before rachels accident, after in the following February with Josie's point of view, and then the next year after Josie's death. The ending is surprising, and you wouldn't think anything like that at first. The book is like hypnotizing you don't want to put it down. I wanted to keep reading every chapter until i finished. If you get scared easily, don't read this book. If you get confused there is a lot of characters, and there are a lot of murders and accusations

Recommendation:

I would recommend this book to people who like reading mysteries and get deep into their books, without getting confused. I would also recommend this book to people that like to be put in suspense, and like to try and guess what's going to happen next.

Mind Blowing....
It's the best book I have read so far.I have read a lot of R.l Stine books but this one is the best.Even in my wildest dreams I couldn't think......to be the murderer.I really hated Josie for ruining Rachel's life and so did someone else . After reading this book I found out that my nails weren't at a good shape cause I kept biting them. All Fearstreet fans should read this.

Good introduction to the derivatives business
I found this a very useful introduction to derivatives on a practical level. The examples are illuminating and frightening at the same time. In comparison to "Liar's Poker" this book is more technical and not quite as hilarious. It doesn't bother people with the author's general socio-moral opinions (Mr. Lewis in "Liar's Poker" did go on about that "value" a person contributes to society) which I was thankful for. The only annoying part of the book is Mr. Partnoy's shameless exhibition of his own provincialism when he describes his excursion to Tokyo. He pesters the readers with details (and inaccuracies) on the earthquake-(non-)proofness of his hotel, the consumer price level in Japan, the impossibility to watch an American baseball game live on Japanese TV (now that's really too bad!) etc. etc. But this is only a small part of the book. All in all, recommended reading. Being a headhunter in the financial industry I learnt a great deal about the people who are my clients and candidates.

Entertaining read, oftentimes sensationalist
This book is an entertaining page turner, as we follow the author in his exploits and experiences in investment banking. However, as someone who knows a bit about the derivatives business, it is clear that the author tries to sensationalize the transactions, using the expression "ripping someone's face off" too often. Clients of investment banks are, for the most part, very experienced financial managers, who generally choose complex financial structures because these are the structures that exactly fit their needs. It is very rare (I have never seen it) that a customer would buy something he was not thoroughly familiar with. My only conclusion can be that the author was eager to write a book, and so chose every single transaction he was exposed to and created the image that customers were always innocent bystanders.

Funny and well-written introduction to derivatives
This book is a rarity in the financial world: blessed both with fascinating subject matter and a gifted author. Frank Partnoy takes the reader through his experience on Wall Street, most of which was spent in Morgan Stanley's nascent but lucrative derivatives group. Partnoy tells the story through the entertaining personalities of those he worked with, and his explanations of the derivatives transactions his firm sold in the latter half of the nineties gives a magnificent introduction to the basics of how derivatives work. Along the way, Partnoy amicably illustrates the global-economic oddities that predicated these derivatives transactions' creation, the contempt their creators had for those who would be buying them, and the oddities of a corporate world awash in money but barren of values. I enjoyed Partnoy's account wholeheartedly, and I consider it an instant member of the Liars Poker/When Genius Failed canon.

This book I just couldn't put down, it is so good and makes you want to keep reading. I am the type of person that's hates reading but there was something about this book. It is the way the author uses his words it is a suspenseful book. I recommend this book to people that are not looking for a long dramatic book but one that states all the facts. It is a fun book to talk about to your friends.

"When Jessie moved into Emily's room, the terror began....."
This was my absolute favorite fear street book! when i went to Barnes and Noble for a couple fear street books, i was so interested when i saw this book i knew i had to read it. this book only took me one hour to read. it was soooooooooo suspensful! I couldn't put it down. everything about the book is suspesnful; the cover, the back summary, everything!
This is what it is about:
Emily is excited when her new stepsister moves in. jessie seems nice and cool until the terror begins. it starts off with Jessie
ripping the head of a teddy bear off. then Emily's report is arased completly off the computer. But then a murder happens...... Emily has to stop Jessie before she does some thing really bad and evil!

Someone wants Emily dead but who?
Stepsister is a great book.Everything about it was suspense. In the story Emily's new stepsister moves into her room.Ever since bad things have been happening to Emily. On the first day Jessie "accidentally" ripped off Emily's teddy bears head. Things kept getting worse.Jessie wants Emily dead, badly. Or is it someone else?Emily is scared to death of her own stepsister. Her sister Nancy tries to help Emily. But one day the family went on a camping trip and Nancy disappears. Next thing you know Emily is in an open grave.Someone was trying to kill her with an ax.Who was it? Read the book to find out. I recommend this book to thrill lovers and also mystery lovers.

If Beale Street Could Talk . . . would America hear it?
It is always a great disappointment and a tremendous joy to read Baldwin. The author's ability to bring the experiences of African American life and the circumstances under which those lives are lived here in America is a joyful, although difficult, reading experience. The disappointment comes in realizing that although Baldwin's canon of work spanned the late 1960's through 1970's, many of the conditions that he writes about so candidly still exist in 2003. The novel is, at its core, a beautiful love story. Not the kind where man meets woman, they fall in love, marry, have children and move into their lovely suburban home adorned with white picket fence and a two car garage. For that American dream was rarely the experience of many African Americans during the period in which the novel is set. In this depiction of the American dream, Tish and Fonny meet as children, grow up and in love, all the while aspiring to create a life together. Their hopes for the future are destroyed when Fonny is jailed for a rape he did not commit.

With classic Baldwin insight, the novel reveals how individual, systematic and internalized racial hatred ruined the lives of two lovers and their families. From the white cop that set Fonny up, to the court system that held him down (although he had an alibi) to the family that turned their backs on him, all contributed to his destruction. When Baldwin isn't rendering a scathing critique of America's racial injustices, he's rebuking the unquestioning manner that many African American's cling to religion in hopes of obtaining freedom here on earth.

Although at times it is difficult to distinguish the characters' voice from the author's, the novel truthfully depicts a fictional account of the realities of America's racism. I thought the ending was a bit fatalistic but decided that is exactly the point that Baldwin was making about the future of America in the absence of full equality for all of her citizens. "If Beale Street Could Talk" is as tragic as it is loving. It's a great read that serves to remind and encourage. Highly Recommended.

What Beal Street Says When It Talks
I think it sure would help our world if more people would read James Baldwin. He tells stories about parts of life (real life) and places in this world (in our country) that existed a long, long time without a reporter's voice. He wrote this book in the 1970's but it is still pertinent today. His talent is to turn into literature a reality that we might well prefer to hide from. His talent is not to be underestimated. He was a trained preacher and his cadence and language use are beautiful and compelling. There is hard well-honed anger fueling this story -- you can taste it as you read. But it is equally love that spurs Baldwin: the immense and enduring love he sees that holds people together in the corners where he's throwing his light for us to see. And, maybe more important, I contend that it is a bigger love and faith that moves his stories. Ultimately his faith is that in the possibility of our society waking up and responding out of love to the anger/stories/ reality he reports on. Why else would he tell us these stories if he didn't believe we could be moved and change? This book is a marvelous story of young love (Tish & Fonny) and mature love (Tish's parents/family) and distorted love (Fonny's parents) caught in a world that is cruel and arbitrary. It is the story of families holding together and falling apart as they cope and struggle with false accusations that tear their lives apart. It is about ways people: contend with / find resolve in the face of / are crushed by / survive and can be destroyed by / racism --as individuals; as families; as a society. And the nuisances of how racism works and the nicks and scrapes and deep cuts it wields along the way are everywhere, woven into the story not as didactic pounding away but as a subtle landscape in which the story's characters (and we) must find a way to survive. You can't read this story and not care. And where Baldwin leaves the reader in the end is exactly where we have to be left. Love can kill you - or maybe it can save us all. Baldwin was right to be angry and to make his anger known--and he was right to believe in love and to trust that the good in people can rise up--all people regardless of race--and make a difference. If only more people would read him and look at / think about the costs we all pay for letting racism survive we might find our selves on a path to a better future. Baldwin's left us these books. He did his part. We might all make a contribution by telling other people to read what her wrote.

A Powerful Combination of Strength and Love
When Michael Ondaatje spoke of author James Baldwin, he responded, "If Van-Gogh was our 19th-cetury artist saint, James Baldwin is our 20th century one". This statement is clearly evident in Baldwin's novel If Beale Street Could Talk, a masterpiece that will move readers in more ways than one.

In the story, we are introduced to Fonny & Tish. They are a young couple, in love and looking toward marriage and building a life together; Tish is also expecting their first child. When Fonny is arrested and jailed for a serious crime, instead of waiting Tish fights for Fonny's release. She is also determined to deliver the child that is a symbol of their love and from beginning to end; we see the power of love and the realities of life that even today is an absolute truth.

With many twists and turns, If Beale Could Talk is an emotionally charged masterpiece with honest themes and characters that are relatable. James Baldwin is truly an author who has made a mark and this is one literary work that is truly recommended---for all the literary world.
