I work in the business - this book is a terrific introduction to the rough and tumble, fast paced, pressure cooker industry known as Wall Street. Ms. Herrera profiles smart, talented, spunky woman - tough yet surprisingly tender cookies who shared determination and perseverance but chose very different paths and methods in pursuit of a career in an industry driven by ego, greed and money. They did it their way, overcoming roadblocks and stumbling blocks in the not so long ago male-dominated financial marketplace, establishing their place in an exciting, rewarding, albeit tough, industry, particularly for woman.

The author does a great job of giving you the lay of the land of the heart of the financial world. It is easy to read and understand and presents a very practical and useful picture of a Wall Street career.

Ms. Giff gives insight on where she gets ideas on all of her books, primarily her Polk Street School and Casey Valentine series. She makes her characters seem so real! I loved how she talked about her cat, too. You really get to know Ms. Giff and you feel like she is the lady next door, an aunt, maybe, or a best friend. WAY TO GO, GIFF!

This is a great introduction to poetry for young readers. The poems are short, concrete, and colorful yet very lyrical. The illustrations are fun and perfect for the text. You can read one or two poems at a time, picking the ones that suit the season or your child's activities/interests. Most give a real flavor of life in the city which is fun if you live in the city and informative if you don't.

Although many of the mergers the author addresses have failed, I have never read a more engaging book on financial dealings. Tim Carrington is a genius of language. He turns finance into the most engaging reading.

Yesterday's Streets is a first-rate story with well-drawn characters. It is an informative portrait of the vanished world of acculturated German Jews from the turn of the century until the end of Woprld War II. It is also a page-turner.

Of the available material, this book alone brought both valid, reliable data as well as a sense of humanity to a difficult subject. The work is somewhat expensive, but it is truly worth the dollars to the graduate or post-graduate researcher.
