Better than an MBA for less (...)
The money and time you put in studying this book voraciously will be rewarded tenfold at least! As a seasoned market veteran, I was first attracted to the book because the author and I share a similar surname, but I expected the typical feel-good hyped up hardcover pep talk with no pragmatic value whatsoever. I couldn't have been more wrong! This book will give you all the information you need to plan a lifetime investment strategy that will get returns that would make any market guru green with envy. From a simplified explanation of the business cycle to new stock selection models, to explanations of market math that a first grader could understand, to exact steps you need to take to develop the mental toughness needed to survive and thrive in the investment arena, I only wish this book had been available when I had started out. It took me many years of study and painful mistakes to figure out half of the info inside, and the rest was totally innovative. Mr. Stern appears to be one of the precious few advisors who tell it like it is without hyperbole or fancy language, so that real people can make real money and have real security and peace of mind. My highest reccomendation!

Track and trackless : omnibuses and trams in the Western Cape

Review on Book: Track and Trackless by Peter Coates
To all that has an interest in General, transport or to be more specific tram history of the Western Cape (Province of South Africa), I can really advise in getting this book. It goes back further than trams e.g. Cart drawn transport for both Passenger and Goods until the last trackless tram left Cape Town.

The younger generation does not know Cape Town in this way and the information is very accurate. I would like to see some of the dates be expanded by including the month and day also to be more correct in this way.

Mr. Coates also bring in references to the political situation of the day that influenced tramways and their existence.

There are some hand drawn pictures and a lot of photo's and other illustrations. (Eye candy!!)

I was lucky to obtain a copy of this book at an antique shop. I suggest a reprint in a cheaper format to make the book available again to one and all.

This is a must read - No option...

"Winans writes like a dream" -"Reads like a novel"
This is the true story of how R. Foster Winans, a well-regarded columnist for The Wall Street Journal allowed himself to become corrupted by a Svengali-like, Gatsby-ish stock broker in the heady days of the early 1980s. His is the same storyline used a year later by Oliver Stone in his original film "Wall Street," starring Michael Douglas as an Ivan Boesky standin and Bud Fox as the young, ambitious sycophant. The broker in Winans case, Peter Brant, proved to be the character that makes this story vibrate with authenticity, an attractive, mysterious, driven young man who, like Gatsby, drifted cooly out of nowhere and bought a palace on Long Island sound. Winans and Brant were indicted. Winans fought his case on technical grounds all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court with the backing of First Amendment and Wall Street interest groups. He lost and served nine months in a federal minimum security prison. Reviewers, most of them journalists, often criticized Winans for what he did, which was leak advance word of his columns to the stockbroker for a share of trading profits, but they raved about his honesty in telling his story and his skill at story-telling. A few examples: "Candid and engrossing." Time Magazine -- "This guy can write. Winans can make you feel what is happening better than most fiction writers I've read." Pittsburgh Press. -- "The book is wonderfully crafted. It is engrossing." Dallas Morning News -- "This is fast-paced, well written. Riveting." Publishers Weekly -- "The guy can write." Kirkus Reviews -- "Winans is a talented writer." USA Today -- "A captivating book...combination morality play, spy thriller and journalism primer." Chicago Sun Times -- "Tightly written, dramatic. A compelling book." New York Daily News -- "An ambitiously crafted narrative." LA Times -- "Gripping. He writes well. This book moves. The reader gets involved." San Diego Union -- "Superbly crafted. Rich in detail and written in a compelling narrative style, it reads like a popular novel." Business Week -- "Winans ... writes like a dream." Washington Times -- "This is an immensely readable chronicle." Christian Science Monitor.

Don't drive Chicago without it
I work on the road throughout Cook County, calling on clients. I use a street atlas, but this is an excellent supplement. Rather than trying to find Kedvale on a map I can look up the coordinates and find that it's 4132 west.

This pocket-sized book is easier to use in the car and I've never found an error.

Another great feature is the expressway chart. Can you exit the northbound Tri-State at Irving Park Road? No, according to the expressway chart, but you can get off at River Road.

My only complaint is that the suburban section covers only Cook County, not DuPage, Kane, or Lake.

This book is best suited to those who use Chicago city streets or Chicago area expressways and tollways.

Twin Cities Metro Street Atlas 2000 : King of Maps
For the Twin Cities and surrounding area, this is the best map book of it's kind. It has sections describing many of the important sites, great downtown maps for Minneapolis and St. Paul plus a number of the smaller cites and towns near by. It has nice color detail, zip codes and easy to use directions for finding places of interest.

Counting Fun For Small Children
Bright colors make a great contrast for a wonderful story for young children. The great price was well worth my adventure. Learning to read is a huge challenge for young children and with this book you can help your child to learn their text as well as learn their numbers. I loved "Two Crows Counting"

Finally-Wonderful Intellectual Inquiry By A Non-Academic
Tanenbaum's "Underground Harmonies" is simply a beautiful and intelligent study of subway street musicians. Not only does she have the ability to write a colorful and vivid ethnography, she also displays the sociological and legal know-how to analyze their social significance and debate the institutional absorbtion of street musicians by the city.
