My husband handled all our car repairs during our nine-year marriage. Right after we separated, my car died. One of my fears about separating was that I'd get taken advantage of because of my lack of knowledge about cars. I had read "Street Smart Secrets" several months prior and had found a mechanic using the book's guidelines in case my car ever broke down. This mechanic looked at my car and me holistically, checked out all the systems, diagnosed what was wrong and gave me rides back and forth. My whole philosophy about how to maintain my car has changed. I'm moving soon and I'll use the checklists and questions in the book to pick a new mechanic. I'm also going to apply this philosophy to choose other service providers. Thanks for giving away the secrets to finding an honest mechanic.

This is an under-recognized classic in the field of popular culture studies, one of the few outside of folklore studies that takes non-academically-trained intellectuals seriously : the "common" human as thinker. Accessible to a general audience and useful for the advanced researcher, McLaughlin builds on and updates Gramsci's "organic intellectual." His examples are interesting and entertaining: zines, evangelical xians, new agers, advertisers, school teachers. This is by no means a perfect study, but it is an innovative beginning for considering the intellectual lives and labors of those who are usually ignored within intellectual history. Worth the price just for the project that is laid out in the introduction, I teach this book as often as I can.

A really cool book. Frank and Joe go undercover as bicycle messengers in New York. Someone's stealing computer secrets and Charles Chilton, the owner of World Wide technologies, asked the Hardy's to investigate. Lots of action and the daughter of Chilton gets kidnapped and then the Hardy's too. I really reccomend this book,especially for anyone ages 10-14.

This book is an interesting book about martial arts. Per haps a little dated but defenitely a piece of martial arts history. Grab a copy if you come across one!

I found this book to be very informative and factual. The context was easy to read, and enjoyable. Mr Drake put a lot of effort into making this a book of past history coupled with names and pictures that directly relate to todays hot rod scene. I have loaned this copy to many of my friends and find that they are as captivated with its contents as was I. I highly recommend it to anyone with an eye on hot rod nostalgia.

Andrew Dickos has written both a brilliant overview of the history and development of film noir -- tracing it back to German films of the 20s and French movie from the 30s -- and an astute examination of individual works and filmmakers.

The author's writing style is sharp and lively and his critiques of the movies are incisive, original and provocative.

A fascinating book; a must-have for the serious movie fan.

Authors Charlton and Hennick wrote a masterpiece. This is the Bible for New Orleans streetcar history, with many facts, anecdotes, maps, and photographs. Every era up to 1965 is covered: the rise, heyday, and fall of animal, steam, and electric traction in Louisiana's largest city. It fills a gap in transit information by taking us beyond the famed St. Charles line.
