THIS BOOK IS WONDERFUL! HURSTON IS A WONDERFUL WRITER. IT IS A SHAME THAT SUCH A TALENTED WRITER DID NOT RECEIVE MUCH RECOGNITION UNTIL AFTER HER DEMISE. "THE GILDED SIX-BITS" HAS TO BE THE MOST COMPELLING SHORT STORY WITHIN THIS ANTHOLOGY. IT IS A VIVID TALE THAT TRULY REFLECTS THE POWER OF MONEY. IT ILLUSTRATES THE EXTENT THAT SOME PEOPLE WILL GO TO IN ORDER TO GET THEIR HANDS ON "THE GREEN." SIMULTANEOUSLY, IT DOES REINFORCE THE IDEA THAT "ALL THAT GLITTERS IS NOT GOLD." MOST IMPORTANTLY, THIS STORY ILLUSTRATES THE POWER OF LOVE AND THE BEAUTY OF LOYALTY AND "FORGIVENESS." NEVER BEFORE HAVE A READ SUCH A POSITIVE STORY ABOUT AFRICAN-AMERICAN LOVE.

Ok, you have to expect that I would rate my own book 5 stars - who wouldn't? I'm proud of this book because it is different from other hot rod books. Most rod books are titled "Hot Rods by Me - the Legend!" and they only give you one point of view - the author's. I have been involved with old cars for years but rather than give my single point of view, I interviewed hot rod shops all over the country so you could gain the expertise of multiple professionals at once. The single reason for failed hot rod projects is the lack of planning. This book helps you plan the entire project. You will be able to set budgets, goals, inspect shops and assess your skills to see what steps you can do yourself. The book is packed with online resources for shops and part suppliers; and is a must for any new hot rodder! If you are using a classic body, my first book, "Modern Techniques for Auto Restoration" may be helpful too. Good luck!

The Street leads you into the life of a disillusioned and alone veteran. You experience the world as through the inner thoughts of a homeless, desparate veteran soldier. The narrator returns to lodz, poland after world war two, and is struck to find that he is not familiar with the world around him. He is broke and frightened upon re-entry into regular life. The Street follows the depth and despair of fantasy. Also, you see the ways that these darknesses might intwine with love and hope. Rabon explores the context of our emotions, and is able to illustrate how quick our mood may change. The characters are vulnerable and thoughtful. The street of the novel serves as a metaphor for being on the outside, for being poor and naive, in an industrial society. Rabon writes lyrically of the spare moments, as well as he writes clearly and plainly of the action. Yet the twists and turns of the yiddish language itself relate the story in a fundamentally non-traditional way. The book is a bridge between the stark realities of post-war life, and the magic of one's own journeys and fantasies.

A great intellectual suspense novel combined with strong characters and compelling, diverse plot lines. Highly recommended.

Street Bikes provides a short and witty review of many bikes made in 1974. All major manufacturers are included. It also has very high quality color pictures of each bike. It is a very entertaining and informative book for the classic bike enthusiast.

We so loved this book! Our entire school participated in a literacy event that recreated the text and entitled it "A School Named Fairview." Each classroom interviewed a special staff or support person in our building, then wrote a short paragraph detailing the function performed by their special assignment. Students then painted or drew a picture of themselves to mount on a 12x18 book page. Our art teacher helped mount the figures in special settings. The results are precious, and the entire school community has been enriched. We plan to make the pages into a book as special as "A Street Called Home."
