I was looking for such a book
This book is about Modern Portfolio Theory, but is written for the investor not for the academic. The style is simple and serious, touching every point that should be made. I have resd other books on this topic, and all of them have terrible titles. That is not important. They also consider different degrees of detail, also not important. This one confirms my own common sense. It does not belabor simple points (a la Bogle) but states them clearly with footnotes giving proper credit. I teach a class in "Saving and Investing." Would that I could summarize as well as Bowen and Goldie do. The coverage of foreign and golobal stocks is brief and good. The opinions on bonds are sensible. Believe it or not, these are often neglected topics or are lost in the clutter. I wish the authors would come out with a third edition!

Very interesting review of transportation in New Jersey
The review was pure nostalgia for me it brought back emeories of when I was growing up in Montclair NJ. I was interested to learn of the extent of the Trolley lines in and out of the town but there was not much of a follow up on the busses that suplimented the trolley lines. Recently at the garage on Lake St in Newark the roof caved in in the rear section but no effort was made to rescue the refurbished Yellow Coach circa 1937 from the bulding. I believe that the coach was allowed ot be destroyed when the bulding was torn down.

An impressively written and deftly humorous anthology
Punk Chicken And Other Tales by Stephen Lestat is an impressively written and deftly humorous anthology about people who live on the streets of America, and yet who aspire for the great dream, but often have to settle for simply surviving while making their way day to day, lucky to just break even. Punk Chicken And Other Tales is enthusiastically recommended as a wry, tongue-in-cheek collection of short stories that draws the reader into real-life problems, as well as those of squirrels or shoulder-riding rats!

Fun to read again and again
This is a great book for bedtime or to take on the road for Dr.s visits and downtime for children primarily under 8. Easy to read in a few minutes or if your kids are getting the swing of the easy rebus style of the book-they'll want to read it again and again. Colorful water color pictures let you or your child read the pictures into the worded sentences. Mostly in rhyme and a little silly, you'll find yourselves giggling at the thought of "Kangaroos paddling canoes" or "Giraffe sailing in rafts". Our second copy, now with precious pages missing, has taught our children the rythym and cadence of rhyme and helps them anticipate word connections. "Mother bear said, this time don't forget to comb your hair" with the comb illustrated by a drawing of a pretty yellow comb. The next time mother bear had to remind little bear to comb his hair. The word comb was written out-but a picture instead of a little bears brown hair was pictured for the reader to use as the rebus. What a confidence builder this lovely book is. A real find for readers with children who love word play and rhyme-It will keep both the reader and the read-ee amused for many fun filled hours-

Great Book For Those Who Are Just Starting To Read
My daughter's teacher told us that she is ready to start reading and suggested that I get this book. Since my daughter loves the 3 bears I thought it would be a good choice. What a great book. The words are highlighted with pictures making it really easy to learn the words and grasp the concept that letters make words that you can read. For example the word "house" has a picture of a house with the word "house" over it. The first time we read it together, now my daughter reads to me. It is a wonderful experience. I would highly recommend this book!

Regarding the Borgo Pio
Having just returned from Rome, I fell across this title online.

The book is FABULOUS. The history is wonderful (wish I had read the book before our trip). We wandered down this street and ate lunch in a trattoria there after visiting St. Peters. The drawings are exceptional. Regarding the Borgo Pio will be a coffee table book in our home.

Will go back to Rome, with this book in hand, and spend hours walking the area. So much more there than nice little restaurants!

After hitting the "highlights - must do" things in Rome, there are so many other ways to spend days there.

Every municipality should read this book.
I purchased this book after hearing a presentation by the author on his ideas on "humanizing" highways. This authoritative book presents the point of view that residential neighborhood streets should be part of the ambience of the neighborhood, and not just efficient vehicle movers. In the author's view, it is OK for kids to use their neighborhood street as a playground, and the street should be designed with enough traffic calming geometry so that it would be safe to do so. This point of view is entirely opposite to the prevailing attitude in the town I live in, where residential streets, even cul-de-sacs, are required to be wide enough for two cars to pass plus a row of parked cars, and as a consequence, residents routinely ask for police enforcement to dicourage cars from speeding on those streets.

To back up this point of view, the book is a design manual for residential streets, including drainage, intersection design, pavement, sidewalks, bike paths, etc. A municipality wishing to adopt the point of view of the book will find all the specs necessary to incorporate that point of view in its subdivision regulations.

When I saw this book, I passed it around to everyone influential I knew, and got the town planning department to order two more copies for people to borrow and read.

Not just another gumshoe story......
Ronal Burris uniquely ties the past to the present and delivers a fast-paced page turner while acquainting the reader with one of the most charming and historic cities in Texas. Road Kill On Main Street will take you into the mind of Sam Arbuckle, an average police detective who reminds us of what every man eventually desires...to make one lasting accomplishment before retiring into oblivion.
A memorable yarn certainly deserving of an encore....
