A remarkable success story on how to protest with dignity
Dellum is a humanist and intellectual, who has lived through extremely unjust treatment while leading African Americans to political equality. All intellectuals, and every conscientous person in general, have a lot to learn from his dignified and persistent struggle, through his witty and humorous story-telling.

The M Street Radio Directory
Published in Paperback by M Street Corporation (August, 1997)
Authors: Robert Unmacht and Pat McCrummen
Amazon base price: $68.06
Average review score:

THE radio station reference book
Even if it weren't the only handy guide to every radio station in the country, M Street would still still be the best. The Broadcasting & Cable Yearbook is bigger, fatter and more expensive, but far less interesting and accurate.

M Street is the bible of the business. Listings by location, call sign, frequency and market. Ratings and trends. Extreme care for detail and accuracy. Close attention to format labeling and industry trends. Helpful background stories. You just can't beat it.

Interesting places to eat in Indiana
This is a fun book to read, and a way to find some good eats when you are on the road in Indiana.
Basically, it is a record of mom/pop resturants in small town Indiana, places that look like they did 50 years ago. Most are on Main Street in the town, and all are frequented by early traffic (5:00 am in most places) Usually the food is good, the coffee is hot and the pie is excellent!!
Be sure to check ahead if possible, because, with the competition from fast food and franchises, some of these wonderful places have gone out of business.
Enjoy!

Main Street to Miracle Mile : American roadside architecture
Published in Unknown Binding by Little, Brown ()
Author: Chester H. Liebs
Amazon base price: $
Collectible price: $49.95
Average review score:

Excellent social history of American cities in 20th century.
"Main Street to Miracle Mile" is an excellent introduction to the development of American cities in this century. What's more, it takes what could be a dull topic and makes it lively by looking at such structures as gas stations, motels, and shopping centers and showing how the changes in the architecture of these businesses reflect the changes that were taking place in American society. Good photographs from many parts of America illustrate the impact a more mobile population has had on the location, size, and design of the buildings that serve us. While this book has been used as a text for college classes, it also can be very enjoyable for the casual reader.

Gentle stories of a bygone era
Well-written in everyday language, Main Street, tells the stories of real lives and lessons learned. It is as though you've shaken hands with the past, with just an extra squeeze on the end of that handshake.

Main Street, Not Wall Street: Investing Close to Home-The Smart Way to Make More Money

Within a 100-mile radius of you right now, computer geeks are working all hours to advance a high-tech enterprise that will make shareholders--especially the geeks themselves--very rich. Also close to home, a regional retailer is plotting a national expansion. And not far away, a local manufacturer is plotting a turnaround that will revive its fortunes. Here's the best part: you have the means to learn about and invest in these future stars of Wall Street before most anyone on Wall Street has discovered them, at least according to John Rubino, a former stock analyst for the Value Line Investment Survey.

In Main Street, Not Wall Street, Rubino explains how to beat the investment pros by using the special knowledge available to you about businesses in your own city and state. By watching the local business press, working with regional brokerages, and keeping an ear cocked at cocktail parties, Rubino believes that small investors can exploit inefficiencies in the financial markets, where institutions increasingly overlook all but the largest stocks and the fashionable industries of the moment.

Rubino offers tips on how to invest close to home, with appropriate warnings about not putting all of one's nest eggs in any one region's economic basket. The book includes state-by-state listings of information sources and of initial public offerings during 1997. --Barry Mitzman

Main Street Marvels
If you're interested in day trading or getting rich quick, don't read this book. If you, however, are interested in long-term wealth, this is an accessible and useful book. The author proves conclusively that, when it comes to investing, "there's no place like home."

Making Millions on the Streets of Japan
Published in Paperback by Minerva Press (September, 1998)
Author: Luke Barisu

A well-written and informative narrative
This book is well-worth reading. It nicely chronicles the Japanese street-life that is not popularly promoted in most other works of literature. Written in a fresh, zesty style I found myself staying up until the small hours so that I could find out exactly how Barisu was finally able to re-discover his freedom. Great travel reading.
