Kohler's writing uncovers the darkest aspects of human nature through precise language and carefully placed detail. It's a shame reviewers for publications such as Kirkus don't have the patience to discover her. But if you are serious about writing and about literature, hunt down Kohler's work where-ever you can find it. Her first novel, The Perfect Place, is a stunning example of an unreliable narrator. And in The House On R. Street, she shows again that beneath the flawless manners of the upperclass there is an unfathomable capacity for corruption.

I owned this book many years ago and to this day I can still recall the storyline as well as the character names. Very few books stick in my memory that way. This is truly an EXCELLENT historical romance. Now that I've managed to find this book again I will be purchasing it immediately. If you enjoy historical romances this is the first book I would reccomend adding to your collection!!

A book full of practical examples about how to fight back against the evil. The book has made me more aware of how evil forces attack, and how to fight back without beating, but by "turning the other cheek". I realize that this is the most powerfull way to fight back, too. The book is a book of practical examples and stories, and it is impossible to put the book away in the middle of a chapter. It is a MUST READ book.

In Howie the Rookie, Mark O'Rowe proves himself a leading playwright. The story is original, tense, and told in a most compelling way. It is unmistakenly Irish but exposing the seedy side of Dublin in a way that a tourist could never imagine existed. The writing is fresh and driving. O'Rowe often uses Irish street slang that would be best served with a glossary (as is done in Irvine Welsh's magnificent Trainspotting).

The story is told in two separate monologues, one by Howie Lee and the other by the unrelated rival Rookie Lee. Vengence is sought for the spread of "scabbies" as well as compensation for the destruction of prized fighting fish. You travel the streets of the hellish Dublin culminating in a tragedy of various proportions. (I do not wish to give too much away.)

This play won numerous awards for good reason. It is playwrighting at its very best. Buy this book and then compel a local company to perform this outstanding play.

My daughter, who is now 21 years old, loved this book as a child. We are purchasing it for her nephews. She learned to tie her shoes, button her buttons....all at the age of 2 and because she truly wanted to do it herself.
