Great resource of real card magic!
Don't be put off by the price. This volume contains a surprising number of great tricks, and clearly explains a good number of the basic techniques. It is written for the beginner, but it is fairly comprehensive, and the intermediate card magician will find much here as well. Come on, even if I'm wrong, look how much money you're out.

The Second in her Portsmouth Series
"The Girls they left Behind" is the second in Lilian Harry's Portsmouth series and is really great! This book picks up few days later after the events in "Goodbye Sweetheart." I have to say I like the second book better than the frist due to the fact the pace of the book was better. This is a great series for anyone who loves book set in the war era.

Goldberg Street: Short Plays and Monologues
Published in Paperback by Grove Press (January, 1986)
Author: David Mamet

A great collection of short stories!
Mamet, in the introduction, calls these "three and ten minute plays some of the best work I've ever done, but what are they good for?" Many of these plays, especially "Four A.M.", "Cross Patch" and all of the short plays in the "Vermont Sketches" series are between two and five pages and are brief but powerful stories from the man who wrote "Glengarry Glen Ross" and "American Buffalo". One of these, "The Spanish Prisoner", was recently developed into a box office hit starring Steve Martin and Campbell Scott (directed by Mamet himself). Most of them were openers for his plays, and one or two were published in the New York Times. Overall, a very good series of short plays, stories and monologues.

THE GOLF CROSSWORD
The book was recommended to me by a neighbor whose husband liked golf while she liked crosswords. I not being either of the two, was skeptical but just tried it out to see how much i might by chance know, having grown up with golf lovers. Well i turned out loving it. I enjoy doing little puzzles and enjoyed spending time working in the book. The format was great, with lots of extra quotes for me to send to my golf-loving friends. I am also especially interested in the spanish crossword coming out soon. Bottom line- a great gift, and i recommend it.

A BEAUTIFUL STORY ABOUT A BOY AND A BASENJI
A boy named Claude and nicknamed "Skeeter" lives with his elderly uncle in a cabin in the Mississippi woods. They hunt for a living, buy staples at the general store and are able to just get by.

One day Skeeter sees a strange, beautiful little dog being chased by hounds. He watches the unusual creature who makes a melodious yodeling noise, cleans herself like a cat, sheds tears, laughs, and has a tightly curled tail. After warding off the pack of hounds, the strange little dog shyly approaches Skeeter. He befriends the little dog, whom he names Lady and teaches her how to hunt. In time, Lady is quite a remarkable bird dog, stunning people in the immediate community. A bright, spirited little dog, Lady proves herself to be an able hunter. She and Skeeter are inseparable. They are almost never apart.

Almost never, until...a neighbor reads about a missing basenji in the local newspaper. Skeeter is devastated by this as he loves the dog. A neighboring farmer who knew about Lady actually knew about basenjis and had hoped to catch Lady for the reward. He sees how much the basenji means to Skeeter and how the two have bonded. When confronted with the truth about Lady, the man tells Skeeter that he didn't have the heart to tell him the dog was missing and that he knew all along Skeeter couldn't keep her.

Skeeter is torn between returning the beautiful basenji to her rightful owners or keeping her. It is a very moving story about the love of a basenji. ...

This is truly a classic. Lady will find a permanent place in the hearts of all who read her story or watch the movie based on this wonderful book.

Excellent for parent infant/toddlers interaction
My daughter Amanda was given this book by a Canadian friend when she was born. I read everyday before nap time starting when she was 3 months old. Even at this early age every page held a tactile activity. Sadly the book was used so much even then and again revitalized when Amanda became a toddler that it became rather ragged. So today I am placing an order for a new book even though my daughter is now 6 because she still holds fond memories.

Historical Novel...
historical set against the sprawling London of the early years of the last century, Gower Street magnificently re-creates the turbulent life of the theater and the medical world of the time as it follows the careers of two ambitious "guttersnipes" who seek to make their fortune: Abel Lackland whose foray into body snatching awakens him to an interest in the sinister new art of surgery, and Lilith Lucas, born Lil Burnell, who will let nothing stand in the way of her rising to be queen of the English stage. ...some mystery and some romance in this one. The first novel in "The Performers" series.
