Hartford's fascinating history
"Domesticating the Street" tells the story of the city of Hartford as it developed in the 19th century from a Yankee, homogenous place to a bustling, highly diverse, challenging salad bowl of immigrants working hard to survive and come to terms with their new world. The book reveals the story of the prostitutes who had claimed an area not far from the Old State House; and the "newsies," immigrant children who sold newspapers in flagrant disregard for Yankee strictures about domesticity, care of children, family structure, or mingling with strangers. It's a great book, one of the few about Hartford that is in print. It was thoroughly researched, nicely cited, and is a mainstay for classes and individuals studying the history of one of America's oldest towns.

Inspires and Motivates!
Dr. Waitley has the gift to excite you about life! His books are so applicable! He makes success seem like the only logical way to live. This is another masterpiece. The essence of this book boils down to the Golden Rule given my Jesus, "do unto others as you would have them do unto you." That's it! The sum of quality interpersonal relationships is found in that small sentence.

On page 48 Dr. Waitley reminds us that we're meant to be contributors in life, not spectators. He writes, "...much of the frustration, depression, and restlessness in society is related to talents that are not being used or properly expressed." God gave us gifts, talents, and abilities to use, to bless other people. Fulfillment comes from doing that.

Great look at mischief among the oil companies.
John Putnam Thatcher gets involved in a kidnapping. Not as a victim, and certainly not as the bad guy, but as the one delivering the million and a half dollars in ransom to the Swiss bank where the terrorist group known as Black Tuesday will pick it up.

Poor Thatcher. He likes a quiet life. But nothing goes his way. The ransom is picked up by a blond packbacker who immediately disappears. The terrorists remain quiet, but it takes weeks before the victim reappears. And when he does, the questions just become louder. Because the victim was the major figure in an important oil drilling contract for the North Sea in Scotland. His company wins the bid and are just beginning to get things ironed out when someone plants a bomb in his car. Then it turns out that he had never been kidnapped in the first place. So what happened to all that ransom money?

I always like Emma Lathen's books, but since they are out of print, they are hard to find. I just got a copy of this one yesterday at a thrift store and I couldn't wait to read it. I hadn't ever read this one before and it was a real treat. I love her stuff. If you're a fan, I really recommend this one.

Best book on understanding markets
As a lawyer with an MBA and CFP I have read dozens of books on markets and investing. This is the best book anywhere on not only learning how to read the WSJ but on understanding the way markets work. It manages to explain often complex topics with layman's ease. It walks you through every part of the financial section of WSJ carefully, completely, and clearly. There are companies outthere that specialize in finding out of print books. Do yourself a favor and find this book, it is worth it. Or I can sell you my copy for $1000.

Katie Flynn gives readers another great book
"Down Daisy Street" is another great book by English author Katie Flynn. Starting out in 1935 Liverpool, the reader meet Kathy Kelling a young girl who life changes in one day. Meanwhile, in Norfork, Alec Hewitt is also facing many challanges. So war comes to Britian, and they will meet.
Katie Flynn is one of the few writers that are able to the reader into the action of her book, and this is one the reason that I try not to miss any of her books.

Dr. Seuss Happy Birthday To You1
Every kindergarten or primary school teacher, especially in low income areas, should play this recording as a "present" to the child having a birthday. What a wonderful listening treat that instills self-value while bringing so much enjoyment. It can never be played too often. Hans Conried's performance cannot be topped.

The best Nightmare sequel in book form
This was a great book. I am one of the lucky ones and I have a rare hard-back copy of it. It starts out in Kristins dream when she is walking up to Freddy's house. If you can find a copy of this rare book don't hesitate to buy it. Trust me, you won't be disappointed.
