Great for Adjusting
My father bought me this book when I was five years old on the day that my baby sister was born. I did not understand the little person who was taking all of the attention and with this book, Herry was having the same issues. I am now 21 and I wish I still had it. It will be something valuable to pass on to my children.

A MUST READ
Like Bernadette's other novels, this novel has the whole package. The heroin who happens to be a school teacher in the small town that is just looking for a way to buy her old house. But she is too late, and instead the old Victorian house is bought by the mysterious man that never comes outside, and has a monstrously dog lurking at the gate. It is by chance that our heroin meets the dashing hero. Sparks fly, and instead of kindling the flame, the heroine seeks to put it out. Throughout the novel, it is a chase that throughly satisfies the reader.

Excellent
A truly interesting, intelligent, and readable meditation on gay male culture from the mid 19th century to the present. Jargon-free, wide-ranging in its use of sources, and both sensitive and informed in its use of history. Turner takes on issues of great interest to anyone curious about queer history and theory, and he presents his ideas in a way that is enjoyable and informative. This scholarly and accessible book is almost the direct opposite of the leaden and incoherent prose being marketed by so many these days under the name of "queer theory."

It is very confusing and mixed-up but it is very interesting
I think it's very interesting and very scary at the same time. I just read it today(May 5, 1999) and I am very interested in The Baker Street Irregulars.

Excellent compendium of Sherlockian writings
This is an excellent selection of classic BSI (Baker Street Irregulars) and other criticism on the Sherlock Holmes stories, with entries by such famous Sherlockians as Rex Stout, Vincent Starrett, Christopher Morley, etc. Most of the individual articles are available elsewhere, but as a compiliation of essential writings about Holmes this is hard to beat. Mr. Shreffler does a fine job of sorting the wheat from the chaff -- I have dozens of books on this subject, and if you are only going to purchase one Sherlockian book in your life (but who in their right mind would ever do that?), this book would be a fair choice.

Two potential caveats for newcomers: 1) I am not sure why this book is so expensive; perhaps the number of remaining copies is limited. When I acquired my copy a few years ago, it was substantially cheaper. If you're on a tight budget, you can probably get more Sherlockian bang for your buck elsewhere. 2) Keep in mind that this is almost entirely a compilation of SHERLOCKIAN criticism, as opposed to the more conventional brand. In other words, the articles proceed under the tongue-in-cheek assumption that Holmes & Watson were real people -- thus, this book will probably not help you very much if you are looking for sources for an academic, literary study of Doyle's work. If you are reading for personal enjoyment, though, and have the cash, it's great fun, and **highly** recommended.

A fine addition to this volume would be Shreffler's "Sherlock Holmes by Gas-Lamp", which includes highlights of the first 40 years of the Baker Street Journal.

Never Forget Your Roots - A 33rd Street Memory
The memories of watching Orioles games on TV and in old Memorial Stadium came back to life as I read this book. Those long time Orioles fans can re-live great games of the past as they spend a moment, trying to forget that our old friend on 33rd Street will be torn down next year. Rich in history and documentation. Camden Yards is a great place, but you should never forget where you came from. Thank you, Memorial Stadium. I will miss you...

It contains awesome short stories in comic form! Excellent!
This small book contains the short stories from some well-known authors such as Anne McCaffry. All the stories were changed into comic form, which makes it even better! I'd say it is a must for those who love fantasy short stories

The Baroness of Bow Street

Author: Gail. Clark

A Delightful Read!
Definately one of the most engrossing Regency novels it has ever been my pleasure to encounter! Dulcie Bligh, the dear Baroness, is a fascinating protagonist. With her ever-changing hair colours, her outrageous pets, and delight in amateur sleuthing, she keeps the action moving right along, pulling the reader with her. A must read for anyone who enjoys a love story AND a bit of a mystery, complete with a generous dollop of humour on the side.

compassionate and astute insights into "la vida loca"
Barrio Gangs is an excellent exploration of the reasons young people gravitate toward street gangs, as well as an accurate, empathic view of the day-to-day reality these young people face. It has enhanced my understanding of the "at risk" children with whom I work, and I recommend it frequently to others in the field of counseling. It is scholarly, yet reflects the author's clear committment to the need to understand these youngsters. A fine source for all those interested in the culture of streetgangs. (I believe that many of the insights the author shares with regard to Latino streetgangs are also applicable to streetgangs of different ethnicities.)

A change of scene for Basil!
Look out! Here comes a new look for Basil. First Basil's riding on the back and a quiet burro enjoying the scenery, all those tumbleweeds, heading for the West to solve a mystery at the Grand Canyon when before you know it he's hit with another tricky case, The Case of the Smiling Smugglers. Will Sherlock Holmes of the mouse world and Dr. Watson of the mouse world be able to solve two cases at once? And find the evil person behind all this
