THIS BOOK IS INCREDIBLY SCARY, READ IT!
OK as my title says: this book is scary and SOOOOOOO good! I kinda read every books Stine has done and this is one of the last that I read. let's say I saved the best for last because wow was this an amazing book or what! it is different from all other fear street type books with murderes and all. THe story started out like the breakfast club (the movie) but turned to horror extremely fast! this story is so well written that you are in the tunnel yourself and believe me that's scary! this story is really frightening and also really sad. It is sure one of the best stories ever written by any author! I think it will make a really good movie too. THis has to be one of the best books I have ever read and certainly one of my favorites. TWO THUMBS UP!

Jenny from Nevada November 16th
I think that this is the best book R.L. Stine ever wrote. I would recomend this book to anbody, all of my friends have already read it. If you are going to read this book then be sure you have enough time to read it all, because you won't be able to put it down.I think it is actually one of the scarier books I've read, I also think it is one of the saddest books by R.L. Stine. But over all this was the BEST book I've read.

Scary
This is the first time I have read a Fear Street book and actually been afraid. This story is about Elaine, who has to go Saturday detention for missing three homework assignments. She ends up in detention with four other people, three of whom are trouble makers. Soon they end up deep underneath Shadyside High, fighting for their lives. I was glad to see that R. L. Stine broke away from the usual deranged/demented killers in this book. If you have never been scared while reading a Fear Street Book, then I definitely recommend this one.

The all-purpose single resource and reference book
Collaboratively edited by Peter Weber and J. J. Newby, and now in a fully revised third edition, Find It Online: The Complete Guide To Online Research by journalist and online trainer Alan M. Schlein is the all-purpose single resource and reference book to looking up the latest and most useful information on anything, anywhere, using the resources of the Internet. Individual chapters address the basics of the Internet, framing one's search strategy, the best tools and search engines available, government resources, evaluating the credibility of information found on the net, and a great deal more. Find It Online is a very highly recommended addition to any personal, professional, school or community library Internet Information Resources reference collection.

A phenomenal resource
I do online marketing and because of my knowledge of the internet, am often asked to do research projects, as well.

Schlein's book is a wonderful resource and is proving to be a great time-saver for me in my work. I highly recommend it to anyone who uses the internet as a research tool, or simply wants to find information quickly and easily.

An excellent guide for research librarians
It used to be that a good reference librarian had only to keep up with the new books being published, and perhaps keep one eye on the newspapers and learned journals. Nowadays, one has to keep track of where best to find the answers to questions on the Web, as well. And it ain't easy! Massive printed volumes of Web addresses weren't much help even a decade ago because they were indiscriminate and seldom included annotations. What we needed -- and still need -- are a few collections of a (relatively) few carefully selected germane Web sites with the reasons given for their inclusion. And this discriminating and well thought out guide is the best one I've seen yet. It's intended mostly for the professional information broker or commercial researcher-for-hire, but librarians in any large public or academic library system do much the same sort of thing and will profit enormously by reading it. After an excellent introduction to the principles of online research, it's divided into topical sections: government resources, public records, news sites, business tools, and international (i.e., non-U.S.) research. Then there are several sections on managing and filtering what you find, how to evaluate its credibility and utility, and privacy concerns. Schlein spends considerable time on fee-based and "hidden" resources, too, not just the freebies on the public Web. Some of the sites he recommends I was already aware of, but there are many others I hadn't run across before. And I have been recommending his advice on search strategies and information massaging to my colleagues. There are a couple of annoying things about this otherwise superior book, however. One is the need for much, much tighter copyediting -- like saying "the software can be moderated" when they meant "modified," and the sometimes eccentric punctuation, and the tendency to break Web addresses in peculiar places (letting only the last character of ".html" fall to the next line gives you a quite different address). The other annoyance is a tendency by the author to laud (frequently) any book published by his editors, associates, or advisors -- so much so that it becomes embarrassing. But given the high quality of the book's actual content, I suppose I can live with that.

Maybe the Perfect Town isn't so Perfect, After All
Greymont, Massachusetts is the perfect place to raise a couple small children, the perfect place to have a normal life. At least that's what rock journalist Zoe Szabo thought when she'd moved her family to the small New England College town. No more chasing after her musician husband as he toured with his band, plus away from that life would make it easier for him to stay clean.

Once settled, Zoe got a job on the Greymont Evening Eagle and went about the business of making her dream of normalcy come true. She'd been working on a story about the Cambodian immigrant community and how difficult it is for them to fit into the new England lifestyle, when she discovers the body of a Cambodian woman in a snow covered car in the parking lot of the local mall. She may have moved away from the big city, but she still knows a story when she sees one and she knows right of the bat that there is more to this murder than the cops might think.

Her instincts lead her down a trail that soon has her thinking that maybe the safe, small town she'd moved her family to isn't the safest place to raise her children, after all?

EXILES ON MAIN STREET is an engaging mystery filled with the troubling undertones of racial discrimination, stereotyping and a deep awareness of cultural differences. That said, it's a book I stayed awake with till the wee hours of the morn, a book I thoroughly enjoyed and one I think you will too.

Sara "Babe" Hackett, Girlfriend from the Darkside

A First Rate Small Town Mystery
Zoe Szabo and her family have moved away from a rock and roll lifestyle in LA, seeking a normal life in quiet college town Greymont, Massachusetts. She has a couple small children, a boy and a girl, and a rock and roller husband who is struggling to stay clean, so Zoe has to go to work to support her family. In her old life she reported for Rolling Stone Magazine, in this new life she takes a job at the Greymont Evening Eagle, however, she manages to preserve a bit of her old self, sporting platinum hair with a pink streak and wearing clothes that are more appropriate for a wild night on Hollywood's Sunset Boulevard than in Greymont, with it's New England Yankees, college students and a growing number of Cambodian immigrants.

While covering a story at the local mall, Zoe stumbles on the body of a young Cambodian woman in a car in the parking lot. She sees that the woman has been brutally murdered, stabbed several times, and begins to gather information. She goes through notes and photos of a Cambodian wedding ceremony she recently covered and figures out who the dead woman is.

As Zoe gathers more information about the victim's last days, both her ethics and her marriage are tested, but the reader's desire to finish the book is not. Lisa Kleinholz has delivered a mystery that both entertains and informs. A story that never gets too bogged down in detail, delivers just the right amount of clues and will maybe open your eyes a little bit about the plight of new immigrants in the good ole' US of A.

She Wanted a New Life, But Found a Murder
EXILES ON MAIN STREET opens with Zoe Szabo walking up to a snow covered car in the mall parking lot in Greymont, Massachusetts. The Cambodian immigrant woman in it had a little blood frozen on the corner of her mouth. She had been repeatedly stabbed. She was very dead.

Zoe, who had been working for Rolling Stone Magazine and had moved from the Rock scene in LA to get away from the fast and wild life, is seeking a small town normal existence, because her musician husband had a drug problem. Hopefully she could raise her kids quietly and her husband could stay clean in New England.

But the killing takes over her life, as she's first and foremost a reporter. She'd done some stories on the Cambodian community in Greymont and that gives her an edge in her investigation into the crime. And there are several theories. Was the woman killed by the boyfriend who broke off their engagement? Or had she been the victim of a hate crime? Was she murdered by someone in her family for breaking with the old Cambodian ways? Or was she killed by a Khmer Rouge assassin?

Zoe uses her contacts in the Cambodian community to chase what she believes is the story of a lifetime. However she's got plenty of other stuff to worry about besides a story. She has to find time for her kids and her husband, who wants to form a band and jump back in to the rock and roll lifestyle. And all the while she's getting closer and closer to the killer.

This is an excellent book that will both open your eyes to how hard it is for many immigrants to assimulate into their new country and entertain you as you race through the pages to its exciting climax.

Benito Cereno
Herman Melville's Benito Cereno is a story about a Spanish slave ship taken captive, and the unfortunate American whaling ship that discovers them. The American Captain, Amasa Delano, and his crew cross paths with the Spanish slave ship, the San Dominick in a bay off the coast of the island of Santa Maria. Captain Delano is immediately astonished at the disrepair of the San Dominick, and especially at the poor health and mental condition of her captain, Benito Cereno. Captain Delano's emotional reactions to what he witnesses while aboard the San Dominick; curiosity, anxiety, and suspicion are excellently described by Melville. Throughout his stay on the San Dominick, Delano is constantly worried that Cereno is planning to attack him, and the liberty the slaves seem to enjoy concerns him as well. The story of Benito Cereno will keep you guessing until the final pages when the mystery of the San Dominick's crew and cargo is unveiled. Despite difficult language, I would recommend this to anyone looking for a great adventure story.

A lawyer aids a scrivener who ends up in an asylum!
Herman Melville spins a great tale that's easy to read. It's a story about five men, and the main character is just as much the narrator as it is Bartleby. The narrator is an attorney who hires three people to work for him, and each one is a real character. All the men are described in great detail, and they are terrific thumbnail character sketches that will stay in your memory bank for years to come! The last man employed is Bartleby, and he is really a strange duck! Bartleby is an excellent copier of legal documents, and initially he does a fine job. However, as the story progresses Barleby acts very strange. He responds with the words, "I'd prefer not to," when asked to proof-read manuscripts, and this response continues whenever the narrator, his boss, asks him perform the ususal office tasks such as going the the post office or doing small errands. The climax of the story comes when the narrator finds Bartleby in the law office getting dressed one Sunday morning. It appears that Bartleby is using the office for his lodging, and the narrator later comes across his personal belongings and shaving kit. As the story progresses, Bartleby does less and less work, and soon he's nothing more than a fixture in the law offices. When the narrator dismisses him and pays him a salary plus a tip, Bartlby refuses to leave. Finally, the narrator is about ready to go crazy -- the man won't leave. So, the narrator moves his law practice to another location and leaves Bartleby at the former work site. The end of the story describes Bartleby in the Tomb, and asylum. Rumor has it that Bartleby was once employed as a clerk in a Dead Letter Office, and this seems to explain his forlon state. Melville explains that a dead letter office is a terrible place to work; no doubt Bartleby was depressed being surrounded with letters that never made their intended destination. These letters could have contained money, promises, stories about weddings, happy tales written to people who failed to receive them. The symbolism in the story is interesting. Bartleby, like the narrator, live in a cold, impersonal world, set off by a series of walls and dark buildings. The symbol of walls without windows are the boundaries for the disconnected solitary work the five men face. Like hermits, each one rarely interacts with the other, and Melville shows the awful effects of a compartmentalized modern society. What would he think of Americans today who sit at computers and interact only by e-mail? What sad, solitary lives have we wrought? This story is rich with details, and I think you'll enjoy it!

Two Haunting Stories from the American Master
I must respectfully disagree with the Boston reader who asserts that Bartleby is "a case study in clinical depression." That's definitely one way to interpret the story, but it defuses a great deal of the tale's power. If we believe that Bartleby is simply a victim of mental illness, we might begin to believe that if only doctors had Prozac in the 19th Century, poor old Bartleby would have chippered up and gone home dancing.

Bartleby's refusal, his famous "I prefer not to," seems more like a deliberate and sane NO. People did know what depression was back then (though it was generally called melancholia, instead). Bartleby's condition (our condition?) is something much deeper, much more terrifying-- the possibility that one can observe the world from a completely rational mind and decide that participation is not worth it.

If we decide that Bartleby's problem was depression, must we call Kurtz a paranoid schizophrenic? All of Beckett's characters could use a Xanax prescription, because they seem pretty bleak, too.

Bartleby is fascinating because of what we don't know; Melville is the great American exploiter of Negative Capability, Keats's term, defined as "when a man is capable of being in uncertainties, mysteries, doubts, without any irritable reaching after fact and reason."

It is because Melville is willing to refrain from that "irritable reaching after fact and reason" that Bartleby (and Benito Cereno and Moby-Dick) is a story that lingers in the imagination. If we knew why the man simply quit the business of life, if we knew it was a deficiency of chemicals in his brain or whatever, we would not be so haunted by his fate.

A lush mystery ...
It is definitely one of the best romantic mysteries I have found this year. I happened to stumble across it at a garage sale and picked it up. It is definitely a find ~~ now, I have found another author to add to my favorites list. Emilie Richards is an author to keep an eye out for.

This book is a gem. It starts out with Faith, the perfect daughter of an US senator and his wife, perfect wife of an upcoming and rising politican and mother of two, Remy and Alex. One day, her world crumbles when she discovers her husband is having an affair ~~ and found her world is built upon shams and deep secrets. For starters, her parents survived the kidnapping of her older sister, Hope. And secondly, she has to rebuilt the Georgetown home that is her mother's ~~ and while there, she starts to explore what the past holds. Along the way, she meets Dottie Lee, her next door neighbor who seems to know all the secrets of everyone who have lived in Georgetown, and she meets Pavel Quinn, a man with a secret of his own.

This is a really insightful novel ~~ not only is Faith dealing with the issues of her failed marriage, she is dealing with her parents' secrets, Remy's attitude change from being the perfect daughter to the teenager from hell, and Alex's blooming into a delightful young man who discovers his own talents. Also, Faith has to work with her images as being the perfect daughter/wife/mother ~~ and accepts herself in the end.

It is just a really interesting book ~~ full of twists and turns that keeps you guessing. And it does tug at your heartstrings ~~ Richards writes with feeling. She is definitely one author I'd like to read more of!

Wonderful story...
This is my first Emilie Richards book and I can say that it won't be my last! I enjoyed this book completely, the story kept my interest right through. Faith loves her husband and believes she will be able to close the distance she feels has come between them, she is devastated when she finds out he has a lover. The story goes on to tell how she handles life afterward and how she uncovers many family secrets. I can't wait to read all the other books written by this author, hopefully they will be just as compelling.

A Rewarding Prospect
I haven't written a review in a while but I was so excited to have found a new author (to me)whose writing I really loved, I couldn't let the opportunity pass to offer encouragement to Ms.Richards to keep writing and to readers who are wondering whether to delve into this latest novel.
I thoroughly enjoyed the character development and sublte mystery in this novel. The issues addressed by the author were sensitively probed with an expert understanding and depth of
prose. There was no gratuitous sex or distasteful language. The author writes with feeling about a family in trouble; their needs, secrets and the people who enter into their lives to help.
You finish the read realizing that everyone has a story and truth and love and doing the right thing is the only way to live a life. Wrongs can be set right and forgiveness is possible.
I found the insight particularly helpful since the author worked in the counseling profession and knows the nuances of charter human beings are capable of displaying and the deep reasons for their actions. Read it! It's like being in therapy without even knowing it!!

One of R.L. Stine's best!!
I had to read a book for an assignment in class so I had picked R.L Stine, an author that most know. I had read the summary on the back which caught my eye and decided to read it. The Mind Reader is the most funnest book I had ever picked up. To much of my surprise I could not put the book down for a second. This book keeps you guessing and on the edge to think what will happen next. If you are not the type to read but looking for your next report you should try this book. I really enjoyed this book and I hope you may feel the same.

The Mind Reader
This book was one of the best books I read by R.L. Stine. I would say if you really like his writing a lot like i do read this book. This book keeps you wondering all the way. At the end Melindia's killer is the person you would never think it is. This book is the best book I've read so fare!

Ellie's visions have led her to a dangerous adventure...
Ellie Anderson has visions of things that happened in the past and things that will happen in the future. Ellie thought her visions were really cool, until they meddled with her love life. Ellie promises herself that her new life in Shadyside will not be ruined by visions. But Ellie's promise is broken when her visions lead her to a dead body in the Fear Street Woods. Now she must find the murderer before he finds her first.

When I finished reading this book, all I could say was 'Wow.' It was a fantastic Fear Street book! It had several different genres. Horror, mystery, suspense, romance, and adveenture. Let's not forget the surprise ending. That was shocking. Out of all of the main characters in the book, it was that guy. You'll never be able to guess it.

Read this book!

Outstanding Reference Book - "Strong Buy" Recommendation
We recommend this glossary to all of our traders and investors, both experienced and novice alike. Investors at all levels can use this book for both reference and educational purposes. It's comprehensive--more terms than any other of its kind--and well written. I rate this as a core holding for any investor.

Exceptional
I cannot believe how thorough this dictionary is--literally all the street jargon is in here. For this price, you're doing yourself an incredible disservice by ignoring it. We all forget the lingo sometimes; the Wall Street dictionary immunitizes us against forgetting trader talk.

Really Good, But The Betrayal Is Better
This isn't the best book in The Fear Street Saga trilogy, but it's better than most of R.L. Stine's books. The best part is in the beginning of the book, which takes place in Wickham Village. The rest of the book is kinda too gory for my taste. Oh well.

One of the best Fear Street books ever!
I felt that this book was one of the best out of all the Fear Street books! I found it was gross when Ezra Fier and his family went back to Wickham to find nothing but a few ageing neighbours and lots and of rotting corpses. But than it quickly goes to frightening when the ghost of Hester Godde takes Ezra's daughter Abigal to the grave and Hester's ghostly whisper ring's through the air "Can Abigal come to my house?" which swiches to a gleeful chant of "Abigal came to my house!". Well all in all this was a great book and I look forward to reading "The Burning"! ~Justine

Awesome Book!!!
i think this was the best book R.L.Stine ever wrote!!!! It was awesome.........I cried when Abigal was found buried, and when almost everyone gets killed at Jonathan's wedding!!! Then i cried when Frank was killing all of the family slowly, and i thought it [was unacceptable] when the story ended because i loved it so much!!!!! i have to read the betrayl and the burning!!!!!
p.s. Read this book ank i promise you that it will change you!!!!

Great info, but it's dated
This book is awesome at explaining the world of investing. It covers almost all aspects of trading and Wall Street a person would need to know. With just a couple of exceptions, the examples were extremely easy to understand. The one draw back to this book is its age. Some of the info in the book is no longer applicable due to the rapidly changing global economy, and it does not cover internet trading. Given this, I still consider this a must read for anyone considering investing.

The Basic Ideas and Definitions
This book is like a "Dummies Guide" to Wall Street. It covers all the basic concepts and theories at a low level or introductory level. The book is one of the best books available on Wall Street investing for the general reader. But the book is more technical like a dictionary or text book. It does not tell you what to do to invest.

If you are a general investor do not rush out and buy stocks - unless it is mad money for fun based on the book. You need to read more books. Here are some more books to read on the actual investing and market trends.

As a general investor I like three books. They are "Common Sense on Mutual Funds" by John C Bogle the founder of the Vanguard Group, and "Irrational Exuberance" by professor Robert J. Shiller. If you can read these books you will have the basic information needed to become a successful and diversified investor, Also I like "Random Walk down Wall Street" by Burton G. Malkiel. If you follow these three books, for the most part you will yield superior investing results. If you follow these books you will understand the markets, the trends, the volatility, the rewards and required patience - and you will not need a pesky and expensive stock broker/financial advisor.

4 stars.

Great for Starters and Sojourners Alike
This is a great book on how Wall Street works, both in regards to its general mechanics and trends, as well as specific investment strategies. Its a bit from the old-school days before the rise and fall of NASDAQ, but its principles are time-tested and still apply today. It has some interesting history about Wall Street with some old photographs as well. The book often explains concepts by employing charts and specific examples, which is very helpful. Overall its intimations lean less toward the speculator and more toward the slow-growth investor, but it is essentially 'non-partisan' save for overall strategies and trends. This book is a must for the beginning investor and seasoned (might I say 'weathered') investor alike. Highly recommended.

Creepy with a surprise ending - an excellent book!
The main character of this book, Sondra, begins having dreams about her past life as a girl named Penny after she is hypnotized by her best friend, Mallory. Mallory and a local psychic convince her that she is in danger because of her past life as Penny. Soon Sondra is terrified that her new stepbrother, Eric, is going to kill her. I won't tell you who is REALLY after Sondra, but you're going to be surprised. (I was.) I gave the book a 9 because it was kind of slow-paced in parts, but it was overall a very good book.

One of my favorite Fear Street books.
Sondra is an ordinary seventeen-year-old girl, or so she thinks. Then she allows her best friend, Mallory, to hypnotize her. She has a terrifying vision of burning alive, and then starts to have similiar dreams. She visits a psychic who says that Sondra may have died in a fire during a past life as a girl named Penny, and that her killer may be after her in this life as well. Sondra's boyfriend, Zach, thinks it is Sondra's stepbrother, Eric. Eric thinks it's Zach. And Mallory starts to act more and more mysterious. If Sondra doesn't find out the truth soon, she may die in this life as well. This was an exciting, page-turning book. Once I started it, I could not put it down. And the ending was the complete opposite of what I expected, which was good.

A total Shocker!!!
Wow, it's been so long since i last read this book (I rented it from the library or else i'd read it again.) I reccomend this book to anyone who enjoys a good thriller. You don't have to be 13-15 years of age to enjoy R.L Stine's fearstreet series. In fact, i'm 18 and i absolutely love him. I'll admit his writting is'nt as elaborate and detailed as other writers but that's what's so great about him. He gets to the point and in the process gives us a great story. The Step Brother is an absolute shocker. You'll be hooked from beginning to end. Especially the end. This book has got one of the best surprise endings ever (although with R.L Stine you usually come to expect surprises).
