Strategy

After reading BASEBALL STRATEGIES and knowing it's available as a valuable reference, I'm looking forward to referring to it during the playoffs and World Series. BASEBALL STRATEGIES provides insight into the finer points of the game. It provides the rationale for the strategies used, and the decisions made regarding all of the individual match-ups in countless offensive situations that make baseball such a "complex simple game".

Besides baseball fans, the book is obviously written for coaches and players who want to develop their understanding of the game and improve their ability to react and anticipate in any given situation. Contributors to the book are successful college coaches who, as life-long students of the game, have brought their own experiences and perspectives to this well-written, informative book of offensive and defensive strategies and tactics. Pitching is also explained, from fielding the position to developing mental toughness to developing a plan for getting the batter out.

This book contains a wealth of information for "students of the game". If you play, coach, or just enjoy watching, BASEBALL STRATEGIES can provide valuable information for many seasons to come. There are so many pearls of wisdom, it should be guaranteed to improve the quality of play and understanding of everyone who reads it.

This book is a very good guide for those who want to become better bass fisherman. Any of the methods mentioned and followed will produce results. Read the book and duplicate the stategies on the water and one will be very satisfied with the results.

This was a most engrossing book. It lists the 100 most important battles, in the author's order of importance. He begins with the Battle of Yorktown in 1781, where the colonies won their independence. (The Battle of Saratoga is #15, and ths shots fired at Lexington and Concord are #74.)

Second is the Battle of Hastings in 1066, with the Norman Conquest of England. This would be the last time that England was every invaded. (The Spanish Armada in 1588 is #16, and the Battle of Britian in 1941 is #40.)

Third is the Battle of Stalingrad in 1942-43, which was the turning point of World War II. (Normany in 1944 is #13, the Seige of Moscow in 1941 is #22.)

Fourth is the Battle of Leipzig in 1813, which was the first significant cooperation among European nations against Napoleon.

Fifth, is the Battle of Antietam, where the United and Confederated States suffered 23,000 casualties, the most of any day in history for America, outnumbering the Revolutionary War, War of 1812, the Mexican-American War and the Spanish-American War combined. (The Battle of Gettysburg in 1863 is #17, and the Battle of Vicksburg in 1863 is #49.)

Sixth is a battle that I had never heard of, the Battle of Cajamarca in 1532 where the Spanish were able to claim most of South America. (The Battle of Tenochititlan in 1521, where Mexico City was captured, is #12.)

Seventh is the Atomic Bombing of Japan in 1945. (The Battle of Midway in 1942 is # 44, Pearl Harbor in 1941 is #62.)

Eighth is the Battle of Huai-Hai in 1948 which was the final major fight between the Chinese Communists and the forces of Chiang Kai-shek.

Ninth is Waterloo in 1815, after Napolean escaped from his exile in Elba.

Tenth is the Ottoman Turks' unsuccessful siege of Vienna in 1529 which marked the end of the march of Islam into eastern Europe. (The Battle of Tours which halted the Muslim invasion of France in 732, is #24, and the Battle of Granada in 1491-92 which ended seven centuries of Muslin control of Spain, is #35.)

This is a great book. I couldn't put down. I recommend it highly.

I found this book because of its review [in a newspaper] that described the book as the most unique marketing book sold by Amazon.com. It did not disappoint.

Written in a very readable style -- its almost like the author is talking to you over the dinner table --- the book describes Mr Schoenleb's experiences in marketing positions in 11 companies from Procter & Gamble to Burger King and Midas. In each chapter there are "lessons" offered to the reader on what Mr Schoenleb learned from his experiences.

The overall theme of the book is that to succeed in marketing in a company you must match your abilities and plans to a company's internal "culture". He tells fascinating real-life case histories. I particularly enjoyed his chapter on how he selected a new ad agency for Burger King.

A great book for anyone who's interested in how the American business world really works, especially marketers or Ad Agency folks.

The book in general was very informative. It provided me with a large amount of information that I was previosly unaware of reguarding beam weapons. By the end of the book I share the authors conclusion that beam weapons will be the next arms race. This was very well written.

Buy this book if you can find it. It is a great book that I have referred to often (since it was published in 1975).

Lots of practical advice for anticipating changes (up or down) in the inflation rate.

In terms of information this book was very good. It looks at many different cancer cure options, which ones have worked or not, and why. It's educational in terms of nutrition and vitamins, what their role in the cancer scene is, and gives opinions backed by evidence of success, on what regimins work best for cancer patients in advancing a cure. This book makes good logical arguments for it's conclusions, and helps a great deal in understanding the body's needs and physical makeup. My only constructive criticism is that it is obviously written by a doctor, and not a writer. However, it is easy to understand, and part of it's charm is that the author seemed to care more about honestly getting his points accross, than becoming a well-know writer.

Becoming a Man of the Spirit helps normal guys understand what is for many a very complicated subject in the Christian life. Starting with a simple explanation of who the Holy Spirit is, the book goes on to look at seven of the main Bible texts dealing with various things the Holy Spirit does in the life of a person he has come to dwell in.

We must be grateful not only to the author, Leonard Ratner, but also to his former students who kept on pestering him to put his lectures on the Beethoven string quartets into book form. Few if any musicians have better understood than Mr. Ratner what Beethoven was about in writing his extraordinary quartets, some of which I must admit I do not feel I entirely understand, even with Ratner's help and even after trying to play them for over 40 years. If anyone has figured out the late quartets, it is Leonard Ratner.

A fine musician I know summed it up when he said that Leonard Rather was the most musical of all the musicologists he had ever encountered. Expanding that comment to include Ratner's former colleague Putnam Aldrich, I can only thoroughly agree.
