Concise yet thorough review of the SAT. Funny, too!
This book makes preparing for the SAT fun, if you can imagine that! Authors, who are Stanford graduates, provide many examples of real test-like questions. You can tell a lot of thought has gone into this book

The best thing about the book, though, are the test-taking strategies -- time-saving tips and insights that will make readers smart test-takers.

Of the many books available in the market, this is probably the best bang for your buck.

Looking for balance between social science and area studies
The longstanding debate in the study of Middle East politics Area Studies and Social Science has divided schorlas in two general camps. Thos upporting the political economy approach (and its variations, i.e. State focused studies) such as James Waterbury, Roger Owens or Nazih Ayubi to mention some and those preferring a more cultural approach based on modernization theory typified by Bernard Lewis. This book edited by Mark Tessler aims to draw from the various approaches to establish a balanced view which combines the more scientific 'methods' of describing the Middle East through social science with the historical and local specificity of area studies. Tessler's aim is to sgow that neother approach works well in isolation and that, indeed, a combination of these two provides the most effective framework to the study of the Middle East. The one discipline adding the necessary context to the other's discipline.
The book features a collection of essays by noted scholars such as Lisa Anderson, Clement Henry and August Richard Norton (among others) which are invaluable to the specialist as well as those who have had less exposure to the debate. I especially enjoyed Lisa Anderson's essay in which she acknowledges some of the shortcomings of area studies and the need to combine more social science perspectives in the discipline. Nervetheless, the other essays are just as important and valuable.

Every Servicemember Should Be Issued This Book
The Armed Forces Guide to Personal Financial Planning is a must read for soldiers, sailors and airmen. The book begins with chapters on basic personal finance and walks through sections on buying big ticket items (cars, houses, etc..), investing, and planning for retirement. Written uniquely for service members and the different tax and pay considerations they should account for, this book is an invaluable addition to any military bookshelf.

Michael Meese is the new Deputy Head of the Department of Social Sciences and former Director of Economics at West Point. Bart Keiser is also a former Director of Economics at West Point. The Social Sciences faculty is also in the process of writing the 5th Edition, which should be coming out in a few months; so if you can wait, you'll get a more current version. But if you are in the military and are considering major changes to your financial situation in the near term, this book is well worth the investment.

I highly recommend this book for all service members.

The Review of Armored Core 3 Prima`s Oficcial Strategy Guide
This is a simple yet, very veRY VERY usefull guide.

AC3 is a tough game where only the big ones stand up above the rest of AC`s. You can accomplish this by dedicating long and numerous hours: customizing, improving and testing your AC, buying new parts, etc. This is the only way to win (not that it`s unpleasant, AC fans love it!.) But if you want to open up new missions and acquire new parts or simply beating the game with less time, then you`ve got to get this guide!

First of all, the guide begins with a warm introduction, followed by all the general and basic aspects of AC3. It explains quickly yet deeply how to maneuver an AC, all the parameters displayed at the gameplay screen, etc.

After this, is where half of the guide is dedicated for: The 50 missions. It explains when they appear, what to do to make them appear (in case of a secret one), the best way to beat them and much more, all of this for each single mission. Sometimes, the guide briefs too quick the mission, but it shows the essential. Also, the guide recommends a "Required Raven Rank", showing us how difficult the mission will be (it also happens with the "Succes Rate".)

After this huge section, you come across the "Inventory". This explains what kind of mech you have to build for XYZ kind of mission (the guide even give us two mechs built already: one light weight and one heavy weight), shows optional parts, several comparison tables for every AC part, (I really like this section because for example I can give myself an idea of what AC part I`ll change later and such.)

In the decoration department, it doesn`t outstand a lot. You`ll see lots of repetitive pictures throughout the entire guide, especially those taken from a popular CG movie within the game. Overall, it has an orange darkish metallic look and makes you feel like your in the right place. Something that left me like:"What happened?" was that all the way from the "Inventory" to the end of the guide was black and white! It has no colors! Weird? Yeah. Does it make it cheaper for Prima to produce this guide? Another Yeah. Or at least, that`s the way I see it best. But it`s not a Major drawback. Other interesting and honorable extra sections are multiplayer tips, all secrets, all of the arena opponents revealed and a large table with the definitions of all the parts legends.

Last but not the least, I haven`t seen any of those irritating orthographic or photographic mistakes in the guide. They are so common and sooooo irritating, I must say.

Overall, with this guide you won`t have much trouble seeing everything the game has to offer and that`s a lot of funny, interesting, entertaining and super-action-and-adrenaline-packed levels, bosses and missions with lots of replay value, superb graphics and intense music.

Very helpful strategy guide for Army Men Air Combat!
If you're a fan of the Army Men games by 3DO, and you've purchased the game, (or buying this game as a gift) you'll definitely need this strategy guide! The missions are detailed extremely well, with very helpful suggestions and strategies to beat all the missions (especially mission 8! )

I played through the game, and when I got up to Mission 8, I would have been very frustrated without the strategy guide's recommendations. Army Men Air Combat for the N64 is a very challenging game!

I think one of the best things about this game is that you can play the same 1-player campaigns in two-player co-operative mode. So while I was busy trying to solve the mission objectives, my kid brother was having a blast blowing up stuff with his helicopter! This is a very good multi-player game!

On top of that, there are several 4-player multiplayer modes! I would have thought that playing a 4-player multiplayer game with helicopters would be lame, but it turned out to be quite fun! (The strategy guide was also very helpful in giving strategies on this mode!)

I would definitely recommend picking up this strategy guide if you've bought the game!

What a nice surprise
I wasn't sure what I was getting when I ordered this book. My initial thoughts were that this might be helful in managing our heart failure patients. After all chronic disease is chronic disease. I got so much more then I bargained for. "The Art of Empowerment: Stories and Strategies for the Daibetes Educators" is more then a book with the hows and the whys; it is a journey. One that encompases self-reflection and the willingness to take a good hard look at your existing belief system. The authors artfully walk you through how they developed their philosophy of empowerment. That empowerment for both the educator and patient come from the concepts of freedom and responsibility. "Because we are free to make choices, we are responsible for the consequences of out choices". The book is rich with stories from nurses, educators, psychologists and physicians who have taken the steps through self-reflection to create a vision. What is our purpose as diabetes educators? Each charpter is design to provide you with tools and exercises that will help you with the process of self-reflection. Empowerment is a vision or a philosophy of giving care, the vision comes before the method and the vison comes through self-reflection. Coincidently, while reading this book, I was doing some work with one of the NPs at our hospital who manages the diabetes clinic. It was amazing to me to actually see the many opportunites to use this strategy as we saw patients over the past two weeks. My NP has asked if she could borrow my book when I am done. I have decided to buy her a copy of her own.

An Essential Guide To Questioning
"A young child enters school as a question mark and leaves as a period" - but not children who have teachers incorporating The Art of Inquiry into their classrooms. Nancy Cecil provides readers with examples of types and levels of questions which are immediately useful in working with students. She describes the ideal climate for questioning in practical and applicable terms. Perhaps the richest half of Cecil's excellent resource for educators is the one with chapters full of questioning strategies. Her guidelines for primary and intermediate strategies as well as questioning in specific subject areas, help turn on the light for those who have been asking students queries in the dark. For schools pursuing the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme which is dedicated to the inquiry approach, this book is a "must have" source of ideas.

The Art of Insurgency
Truly a superb and important work!
This book should be read not only by all those interested in military history and the Vietnam war, but particularly by those interested in understanding better the circumstances facing the United States and its allies today in the war on terrorism. Hamilton's insights on insurgent organizations, terror cells, and strategic design in historical context, can be well applied by policy makers today in understanding the depth of problems now being faced. Lessons learned then would not need to be repeated as mistakes today. This book is not overwhelming in repetitious fact finding, and Hamilton's minimalist writing style is appreciated. Academics will also enjoy the marvelous research and constructed bibliography. Recommended to all readers interested in like subjects related to contemporary military strategic thought and history, and to government officials of the highest rank.
