This is an awesome openings work; it is as if you are truly hearing about this opening form the source. The introduction chapter beautifully traces the history of the ...e5 Sicilian, and the remainder of the book is simply staggering in its energy and chess beauty. It reminds me of the works by Polugayevsky. I agree with the other reviewer that this is a truly great book.

After having played the Sveshnikov variation since 1980, I finally came across this book a few months ago. It didn't look much at first. The binding is tacky, typographically so-so. It had its fair portion of wear and tear as well. If the sayings about judging a book by its cover etc were all gobbledegook they are true now. It turned out to be an incredible work of knowledge, far exceeding any other book on openings in historical value. The way Evgeny Sveshnikov searches for truth in dazzling variations, never losing sight of the big picture, is most instructive. This book is obviously the fruit of enormous creativity, hard work, and a large dosis of perfectionism. If anybody is thinking about a reprint and thinks I may be of help, contact me by e-mail. I think this is the best opening book in existence and it will stand out in chess history.

Peter Pinney kept a diary while fighting in New Guinea and Bouganville that would have got him court-martialed if it had been found. Fortunately for all of us, it wasn't, he wasn't, and we have been given an unbelievably realistic view of what it was really like as a private soldier in a commando unit fighting in the jungles of the Pacific.

The is "Survivor" without a TV crew and with very real risks to life and health. Like being in an ambush with enemy soldiers just feet away. If they happened to see you, you are dead. Yet he does this repeatedly and survives.

How does it feel to kill someone? Find out. How does it feel to lose a close friend? Find out. How do you fill the long periods of boredom between action? Find out. This is a truly amazing book.

One of the best books written on the subject, Peter Pinney writes easily and candidly about his experiences as a Signaller with the Australian Imperial Forces in PNG and The Solomons. Creeping through jungles, seeking the feared Japanese 'warrior', Pinney relates the thoughts and fears of his companions, from the pompous officers to the blood thirsty soldier and coward alike, he draws the characters with a simple, life giving ink and paints the steaming jungle backdrop with a magical brush.

Fact and fiction interweave, I suspect, but the resulting story is of high class.

Even if you are not interested in the subject, this is still a fantastic trilogy and one that at least every Australian should read!

I have SimThemePark and so does my friend. He has the Strategy Guide though. I have seen it! No wonder his park is so much better than mine! This book gives you everything! The tips are easy and you will simply have a wonderful park when you're finished. This book helped my friend get an amazing park. It has the best roller-coaster I have ever seen! He also has other cool rides. Everyone who has this game should get this book. Or it just wouldn't be any fun!

This book by Donald C. Paup and Bo Fernhall covers everything you need to know about the game of badminton. The illustrations and the explanations in this book are very informative. From the the basic drills, to strategies in badminton, this book is a must for any badminton ethusiast. For the beginners, this book tackles the essential basics of the game like proper hand grips, basic footworks, how to execute the net shots (clears,drives,smashes,drops), basic strategies for doubles and single players. For the advance player, this book will help you review some of the basics because I believe that any player should always review his or her basic skills in order to be a better player and go on to the next level of play. This book will also help advance players to plan strategies and tactics in play.

Klein and Lederman have provided serious students of the small cap investing universe with a valuble reference guide. The book examines the small cap segment of the market from a variety of perspectives, including trading, stock selection and international investments. Each of the chapters is written by a practioner in the industry which makes it readable to investors lacking the training (or patience) to wade through more academically orientated tomes. I would strongly reccomend this book to anyone who wants to go beyond the "hype" that underpins most books on small caps.

If it says IN Fisherman on it, Buy it! They produce some of the best books and videos on freshwater fishing. Period! Full of current, scientific, and practical advice on the species you are after. If you don't learn from this book, then you probably helped write it.

This book discusses fish movements and strategies for the different times of the year. You find out why you may have caught fish in the Summer then caught nothing in the Fall. Lots of diagrams. Teaches you what the fish are doing throughout the year and where they are doing it.

For someone who loves New York City and has an admiration for firefighters, this book would be a valuable addition to any library. While providing a fascinating account of the history of the FDNY, the book also gives the reader a wealth of information about the city itself. I would recommend it for firefighters, fire buffs, and any reader who is interested in a fascinating account of the Fire Department of the City of New York and the incredible men and women who have joined its ranks over the years.

At first glance, Golway's book might appear to be a "buff" book - one aimed at firefighting enthusiasts. The truth - evident from the first pages - is that it's a book about much more than fires and firefighting. For in addition to telling the fascinating story of the FDNY's evolution from colonial times to the present, Golway relates many more -- the stories of New York City's growth and development, of technological change (both architectural and firefighting), of municipal politics, of labor disputes, of struggles by women and minorities for equal opportunity. Ultimately, it's a book about the stories of generations of firefighters and their day to day struggle, often overlooked before 9/11, to put their lives on the line in protecting the lives and property of the city's residents. Best of all, the book is beautifully written, reflecting the author's emotional attachment to his subject (he's the son of a firefighter), as well as experience as a journalist. You'll find this book an engaging read from the start - long before it tells the tragic story of the FDNY's darkest day, September 11.

This is one of the most comprehensive, insightful opening boooks I've ever had the pleasure of reading. It isn't a "beginner's book," but it provides all kinds of insights into this really sharp attacking defense. I especially like the way the author says, "Hey, just *play* the darn thing and start to rock 'n' roll." (Okay, that's a paraphrase ;-) I wish there was more stuff in it on how to meet other Dragon lines (9 O-O-O, for instance), but this is sure a heck of a lot more useful than Ward, Gufeld or Levy (which *was* good for it's time!) Look at it this way- Kasparov used this book to earn a million bucks vs. Anand...can't you use it for your next club game?

The table of contents lays out all of the main lines- this book is very well organized- 65 complete games, many of them classics by Fischer and Timman and other modern grandmasters.

I enjoy the author's commentary. He blends humor with raw analysis. This book shows all the important variations for any serious student of the opening. The diagrams are good and the book is almost complete, however the "Odds and Ends" chapter could be expanded -i.e. There are a lot more options than the ones given.
