This Book Can be Custom-published for Your School
As the review by the student observes, this book is a practical handbook that students use and keep. Students have had nothing but high praise. It is not academic in the sense of its readability and format. It can be custom-published for your school. Contact me at my email address.

Short, Clear and Concise
I'm a programming student who had to take management courses to fufill silly requirements. This book is the only book from any mgmt course I've taken that will continue to get used. It presents things very clearly, and gives wonderful examples. Not much theory, so it's actually useful.

He was also the creator of Dulles Air Port & L'Enfant Plaza
I knew the General. In addition to his achievements in WW II, he devoloped the concept of an airport where incoming and out going passengers moved on separate floors (Dulles)With David Rockefeller they created the magnificent L'Enfant Plaza in Wash.D.C. His stories of growing up in Washington could be another book, not to mention his civilian achievements in Washington. The story of his flying Ike behind German lines after the D day invasion in a 2 seat P 51 to prove his point over German positions (much to the chagrin of Gen. Bradley) is one of my favorites. He had a picture in his office of he and Tooey Spaatz from their early days in "Jennies" with oil all over their faces except where their goggles were. Right out of "Dawn Patrol". This book is long over due.

A history lesson that we didn't learn too well.
This book is easy to get into and very informative. The story of Gen. Pete Quesada and the tactical air arm in the European Theater of Operations in WW II is something that anyone interested in military history should read. This aspect of the war is often overlooked, which should not be the case. The working together of ground and tactical air assets should be a top priority for military planners as well as anyone connected with the ground troops.

Your CoWorkers Should Read This Book
This is an excellent text. I highly recommend it for anyone involved in LGBT issues. This highly readable text will appeal to readers of all stripes, all orientations, so leave it out where others will see it... and wait to see who picks it up! Come out of the closet and bring someone with you. It's a wonderful journey.

A must read for anyone interested in LGBT issues
I have to admit that I was pleasantly surprised with "Overcoming Heterosexism and Homophobia: Strategies that Work." Given its title (which to be honest does not exactly inspire confidence as to its "readability") and its size (448 pages of really fine print. Whoa!), I was really expecting yet another dry, boring, overly academic text that I was going to have to struggle through, not just to understand but to stay awake as well. But yet, as soon as I started reading it, I was caught off guard by two things: One, I was actually able to read the essays straight through and understand them the first time I read them (as opposed to having to read the same paragraph three or four or more times because the language is so dense and cumbersome as to be incomprehensible); and two, I found myself wanting to read more of the book. I felt the book did a great job of not only incorporating a great deal of information in a fresh, easy-to-understand manner, it also managed to be comprehensive without necessarily becoming overwhelming. "Overcoming" was that rare book that actually got me from the first chapter and kept me reading. Furthermore, it has been a long time since I got this excited reading a book, i.e. it was really enjoyable to read, and incredibly informative! "Overcoming Heterosexism and Homophobia: Strategies that Work" is definitely an invaluable resource for anyone interested in LGBT issues, and particularly for those individuals or organizations looking for ways to develop and implement programs that specifically address issues pertaining to homophobia and/or heterosexism.

Intelligent, useful, compassionate and wise
Mather and Goldstein's book is a wonderful find for parents whose child is having a reading, writing, behavioral, or school problem. They simplify an often frustrating and confusing situation by asking ten clear and simple questions which are then used to identify what to do. We found the specific recommendations of how and what to do very useful. Chapter 8&9 had very concrete and straightforward "language" things to do that made us feel like we were not just spinning our wheels anymore. This book was recommended by our elementary school after our son was tested. I would recommend this book for people as they begin testing to help explain what is going on and what they can and must do. Thanks Nancy & Sam for clarifying the process and making it easier to be an advocate for my child.

An Exceptional Resource
Finally a text that not only helps parents understand the forces that shape success or failure at school, but offers a set of practical guidelines and strategies to help all children succeed.

Oxford textbook of public health, 4th Edition, 2002
This is a three volume "heavy" textbook, both in weight but certainly also in the scope of its content and the basis for learning public health from an international perspective. This fourth edition is dedicated to professor Walter W Holland, who was the original founding editor of the textbook first published in 1984. The present editors are affiliated with UCLA School of Public Health, Department of Public Health at the University of Glasgow, Department of Community Health at University of Auckland and National Institute of Health and Nutrition in Tokyo.
The first volume presents the scope, the second presents the methods and the third the practice of public health with a total of 101 chapters from close to 200 international contributors
Each chapter is extensive both in its research, details and scope with relevant references and suggested bibliography. It is truly comprehensive in its international scale and the editors must be congratulated for making a clear, consistent and easy read textbook. The subject of bioterrorism with reference to the antrax scare and other possibilities in the wake of the Twin Tower attack is reviewed from a public health aspect. The index extensive.
My own interests of child public health, adolescence, disability and mental retardation were well rewarded with fine chapters and a scholary discussions of even the current classifications of disability, handicap and intellectual disability. The chapter on adolescence had fine suggestions for health policies on a local and global basis.
This is an important book that should be found at every public health library and at the side of specialists in public health medicine.

...

Third edition has been available for some time
The third edition of this excellent survey of public health has been available for some time now, I would encourage readers to request that rather than the out-dated second editio

Very useful and realistic information!
Since my own parents have been experiencing a decline in their health during recent years, I have been looking for a valuable source of information on how to help them live life as best they can, and what coping skills I can use for my own life. This book proved extremely valuable in both these areas. I highly recommend it to anybody of the baby boomer generation, who may have aging parents. Even great for those whose parents are not yet showing declines in health... best be prepared! I refernce this book very often, still.

Dave's Comments
Similar to other baby boomers, my parents are starting to show signs of aging. Fortunately they are both in good health and my brother and I haven't had to deal with many situations that can result from aging parents. Many of my friends have had to deal with these issues and it has been very difficult for them.
Parenting your Parents is an excellent book for anyone that is dealing with aging parents or may have to in the future. It has many examples of typical situations and offers practical advice and support. There are also many lessons for people of all ages, for many of us will be facing the same issues as we age.
The most powerful part of the book is the last section when one of the authors discusses problems he is addressing with his parents. It is very emotional and is an excellent way to end an excellent book.

Paul's Early Period: Chronology, Mission Strategy, Theology

A New Standard in Pauline Studies
Riesner's work is very helpful in the study of Pauline chronology. There are several reasons to buy this book: 1) his clear survey of chronological constructs by other Pauline scholars, 2) his thorough bibliography, 3) his excellent treatment and background study of numerous events in Paul's early ministry, and 4) the clarity, thoroughness, and balance of his arguments. Riesner sets a new standard with this study, and it is very high. It ought to be utilized by all involved in Pauline studies.

A Must-Read for Seminarians!
Riesner contends (and rightly so) that the interpreter's view of the chronology of the early church will influence how the interpreter understands the theology of the early church. With this thought in mind, Riesner seeks to define, with as much supporting evidence as possible, the early chronology of the church, which is essentially a chronology of the early ministry of the Apostle Paul.

Riesner begins by surveying contemporary scholarship's contributions (and confusions) over the chronology of Paul's ministry. Two groups in scholarship emerge. One group suggests that Acts is essential to developing a correct chronology of Paul's ministry. Acts is able to do so, since it is essentially accurate in historical details. A second group tries to do with Acts, since Acts (in their view) is essential inaccurate concerning historical details. Riesner points out that nearly everyone depends, at least at some point, upon details in Acts.

Riesner recognizes a problem in the chronologies proposed in the literature he surveys: often one or two 'absolute dates' are given, and the rest of the chronological details follow from those few established dates. In the next section Riesner seeks to go point-by-point through a chronology of the early ministry of Paul, discussion the evidence at each point for particular events in Paul's life and ministry. He is wary not to merely fit a date into a chronological scheme without providing good support for that date independent of other chronological markers (if possible).

Riesner interacts with both conservative and non-conservative literature. The bibliography is massive (80 pages, with approximately 30 sources per page!), and footnotes in the volume indicate that Riesner is, indeed, familiar with the literature. He acknowledges that Acts must be used as an historical source for reaching conclusions concerning a chronology for Paul's ministry. As one example where he isn't afraid to reach a conclusion typically reserved for conservatives, Riesner accepts the South Galatian view for the destination of the letter to the Galatians.

In this review's opinion, Riesner has admirably accomplished his purpose. He has constructed a well-supported chronology of Paul's early ministry. This work is only for the serious student or scholar-it is not light reading! Riesner expects that the student knows Greek and other languages, though the work can be read profitably by English-only students. This work is a must-read for New Testament professors and any seminary students doing work on the chronology of Paul's ministry. Without doubt, this book earns a five-star rating.

A remarkable, eye-opening reference
Now available in a newly updated second edition, Paying Teachers For What They Know And Do: New And Smarter Compensation Strategies To Improve Schools by Allan Odden and Carolyn Kelley is an innovative, ground breaking look at brand new, competitive motivation plans for teachers. It describes a vast variety of different compensation initiatives in use around America today, as well as the plans used in private vs. public sector schools. Knowledge-based and skill-based pay are extensively discussed, as is how to effectively begin a payment plan that rewards the best teachers who produce the highest results. Extensive indexing and a list of sources make looking up information on this hotly debated topic a snap. A remarkable, eye-opening reference, and very highly recommended reading for educators, school board members, and administrators.

Knowledge and Skills
Allan Odden and Caroly Kelley foreshadow teacher compensation alternatives that would elevate the art of teaching to a level of professional teaching. Governor Gray Davis (California) would be advised to add this book to his reading list.

Absolutely Fantastic
WITHOUT QUESTION this book is the best practical business text I have ever read. Thank you Robert for unequivocally adding value - in a meaningful and tangible way that can be taken to the market and capitalised on. It's books like this that inspire me to invest (what would otherwise be leisure) time in learning & continuing my education.

The book is clear, concise, comprehensive & practical, and helped wrap together many general strategy concepts into an effective action based set of implementation tools. VERY, VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Comprehensive Integration with Strategy, Easy to Implement
I rarely get excited about textbooks, but this particular treatment of strategy, balancing leading and lagging indicators with a view of past, present and future, was enlightening. This book should be a "must read" for any mid- or senior- level manager. It shows how to make your decisions more fact-based and less 'art'. With the coming of age of "management of knowledge" this is a great tool to use to improve business processes. Definitely worth every single penny spent - but especially if you are interested in learning tangible methods!

Required reading for all teachers!
This book is an excellent resource for anyone wanting help in fighting plagiarism in the classroom. It is well-written with section headings that make it easy to find the information that benefits you the most.

Just the chapter titles indicate how useful this book is: educating yourself about plagiarism, educating your students about plagiarism, constructing assignments to prevent plagiarism, strategies for detecting plagiarism, strategies for dealing with plagiarism, and administrative and institutional issues relating to plagiarism. The book also includes seven appendices giving extra information, such as teaching resources and internet search tools.

In addition, the book has cartoons that deal with plagiarism, along with an appendix suggesting ways to use the cartoons to foster class discussion on the issue.

It's amazing to learn the ways students try to avoid writing their own papers! This book has helped me as I teach students about avoiding plagiarism, and I believe that it should be required reading for any teacher who assigns any research papers.

How to construct assignments to prevent plagiarism
Plagiarism is flourishing with the Internet and other student efforts to copy term papers and works - The Plagiarism Handbook combines with the problems of students unknowingly plagiarizing because they aren't aware of citation rules and forms. Chapters outline strategies for preventing, detecting and handling plagiarism, considering academic issues, sources commonly plagiarized, and making assignments constructed to prevent plagiarism. An intriguing study.
