I have always been skeptical about buying strategy guides, but the author of this Hexen game guide really knows how to put it together to make the book totally understandable and easy to use. From the beginning where there is a brief synopsis of the game and what led up to it, to the in-depth analysis of the 3 playable characters, the monsters, and tactics to deal with them, what weapons to use for each different situation, and how to use the artifacts to your advantage. However, where this guide really shines is the walkthrough section. Extremely detailed, easy-to-read maps for all 31 levels, and the text accompanying the maps is like having your own personal tour guide along with you. Mind you, I don't like to use a strategy guide to spoil all the adventure, but when you play this game, you realize it is almost essential to have some 'help' along the way to victory against Korax and his minions. In closing, I would like to add that I hope to see more strategy guides from this author, as he is very player-friendly in his layout of his guides.

Great maps. Extra Cheat codes in the back if you really want them. Helpful descriptions of each hub and what you are trying to do in each one. Because I had the book (I don't usually buy these kinds of books but I was really "stuck") I got deeper into how to use different artifacts that I normally just ignored. This made the game so much fun that I played it twice as two different characters.

I am happy to be able to recommend High Altitude Nuclear War by John Lewallen to a wide audience. The human story over the last few millennia has been the chronicle of the conquest, domination and subjugation of the many by the few by means of better technology and amoral intent. "The History of Civilization" has only amounted to the writings of people willing to praise the monsters that oppress us. The word "civilization," as it is currently used, is a euphemism for this tragedy. Superior technology, from the sword to the nuclear bomb, has been the essential enabling element of oppression. In my, and many peoples view, the liberation of the vast majority of us who are currently oppressed will be impossible as long as our thuggish elites have access to current military and informational technologies. Gentle people can never hope to overcome thugs when the thugs are allowed to band together and use superior technology against us. Consequently our, and our children's, only hope of denying these people the weapons that they use to subjugate us is to tear down "civilization" as they conceive of it. It is my belief that out of the ashes of this so called civilization a wiser and gentler people will be able to take up the challenge of improving our lives and the life of the planet without the influence of thuggery and violence. The condition of war, and the constant threat of war, is integral to the success of the world wide class of thugs that have successfully subjugated and oppressed the entire world at this point. It is from this perspective, and not the author's, that I highly recommend this book.

The first fifty pages are authored by Mr. Lewallen himself, and presents his view, and hope, that people informed about the dangers of high altitude nuclear war, and nuclear war in general, will have the courage and power to force a change in the goals and attitudes of our militarist elites toward more peaceful approaches to settling differences. Personally, I don't see it. He does succeed in painting a vivid picture of a world subject to a hair trigger threat of global nuclear war that will start in space with nuclear weapons targeted against modern industrial technology.

The remainder of this 200 page book is devoted to excerpts from recent congressional testimony. These transcripts of conversations between congressional representatives and various scientific and military experts take place in front of the virtual curtain of military secrecy. Much care is taken to avoid speaking of issues and facts that are appropriate only for "secret sessions." Consequently, we are shown only part of the picture and are left guessing what the full truth might be. None the less, what is revealed is compelling. What emerges is a picture of confusion and ignorance on the part of our leaders as to their true vulnerability to high altitude nuclear explosions that will, in an instant, render modern industrial and electronic technology useless slag. In a poignant irony they continually refer to their pipe dream concept of this kind of war as HEMP (an acronym for High Altitude Electromagnetic Pulse). I don't want to be smoking what they are smoking. Consistent with all our previous experience with government, these hearings give little attention to common sense or show any impulse to slow the building momentum toward global nuclear war. On the contrary they presume that the pressing problem is how to win a nuclear war!

This book hides a secret treasure for anyone, like myself, who is foolish enough to try to imagine an informed vision of how the human race might yet survive our current living nightmare of war, domination and subjugation. From a close reading it becomes clear that one possible outcome is a nuclear exchange that never gets much beyond the stage of an opening salvo of a high altitude mutually destructive, world wide attack that effectively puts a stop to advanced technology itself! With the weapons of repression suddenly ripped from their hands, it may be possible to deal effectively with the thuggish leadership that so oppresses us. When I have had a chance to discuss this with Mr. Lewallen himself (we are old friends) he calls this the "Jubilee bomb" idea. This is in reference to the idea presented in the bible of a time when all debts are to be forgiven and all slaves are to be freed. It is satisfying to my sense of the ironic that our greatest threat may also be our greatest hope. We may yet see an end to the rule of brutality on earth. To this end I encourage you to join me for a minute at noon each day (Pacific standard time) to pray for the Jubilee bomb.

Let me close with a quote from the written Statement presented to the House of Representatives, Military Research and Development Subcommittee, on July 16th, 1997, by Dr. Lowell Wood entitled "Threat Posed by Electromagnetic Pulse (EMP) to U.S. Military Systems and Civil Infrastructure" addressing the "Peculiar Aspects of EMP Attacks."

"Indeed, a nuclear EMP attack on a nation is, in the large, the obverse of what the neutron bomb was asserted (utterly falsely by anti-deployment-directed Communist propaganda, but nonetheless with great political effect) to be in the small: an arch-capitalist weapon which killed people but didn't destroy the capital plant in which the people were located. EMP weaponry (potentially even in a single copy), in acute contrast to this now-ancient canard, potentially destroys in a highly effective manner the high technology electrical/electronic plant of any advanced nation - the heartland of modern civilization - while not directly harming people at all."

In case we didn't have enough to worry about, the author exposes a little known carastrophe that could result from a high altitude nuclear detonation -- the EMP (electromagnetic pulse). The first section of the book is a tutorial of what it is and how it might happen. The remaimder of the book is the actual Congressional testimony of expert scientists on the real danger from EMP. Well written, understandable and a dialog between scientists and Congressmen. It's all here : what it is and what we can and can't do. A must for those who want to understand this little realized danger waiting to happen.

This guide was put together very well. Because of the games inherently nonlinear (in other words, no one way to complete it) game play, it should only be used as a reference.

This book was great. i couldnt beat the first mission until this book help me see the light. it shows the little things us gamers miss when we run through games. definitly buy this book.

Too good to be true! Very well reasearched and meant for the seriously interested over 40's woman who wants to be in perfect health to old age. A "must have" book which only comes along once in a very long time. Easy understandable even for a layman. Remarkable!

Crucial reading for anyone. What your doctor doesn't know and should know. I have sought long and hard for a doctor who is up to speed on the latest scientific research and I have found you need to see a good holistic doctor to find out what's really going on. The pharmaceutical peddlers are in the dark ages and you will pay for their ignorance with your health if you see one. Way to go Michael Colgan, keep up the excellant work!

This is an excellent book in that it not only has little-known and important facts, but also includes anecdotes about each battle, and a review of each general's strange personality traits. Despite a few editing errors, I really enjoyed this book because it brought things that happened hundreds of years ago alive. Also, it was fun to learn about such obscure facts as the pyschological diseases that ailed certain Civil War generals. Overall, this was a quick, fun read that I would recommend to anyone who likes American history, or to anyone who is bored by American history, and is looking for a way to connect it to everyday life.

This book is a "must read" for anyone interested in American history. It contains some of the most original new ideas about military strategies and leadership out there. The alternative scenarios were especially thought-provoking - and the authors' "report card" of the military leaders generated several very interesting discussions/debates with colleagues.

Amir Aczel is a professor of statistics whom the IRS treated badly during an unnecessary and unjustified audit. For example, the IRS auditor repeatedly telephoned Aczel at his home before dawn, depriving Aczel, his wife and small baby of sleep. Wanting to avoid such a nasty experience in the future, Aczel used his statistical skills to detect the rules that the IRS uses to choose taxpayers to audit.

He used a super computer to compare thousands of audited income tax returns with thousands of other returns which were not audited. The result is this fascinating book. It explains 14 rules for avoiding an IRS audit.

This book is invaluable...I won my audit because of the tips I learned from this book.

I picked up this book expecting the same old same old regurgitated information and found myself pleasantly surprised. Gorter's information was insightful, fresh, useful and in a format easy to read and understand. I would recommend this book to anyone in need of helpful information.

How To Interview Like a Top MBA, by Shel Leanne, is extremely well written and provides great insight into how to interview excellently for a job. The topics covered in the main text are very timely, with chapters about situations in which you may be trying to get a more advanced position, as well as ways to approach a job interview if you have been out of work for a while or if you are transitioning to a new field. The book also has a very valuable sample 100 Questions and Answers section. This book was thoughtful and insightful, and the advice from headhunters and recruiters add great dimensions.

Shelly Leanne does an excellent job in providing important insights in How To Interview Like a Top MBA. The book will be useful for those in business as well as other fields. It seems as if it would have been hard in the market of interview preparation books to write something novel, but this book accomplishes that wonderfully. I greatly enjoyed the range of topics covered - from how to do research about a job and industry before you try to interview for a job, to how to deal with tough questions. The sample Q&A section is very useful. I highly recommend this book.
