Granted, the scope of this work doesn't allow for much detail, but Verbruggen's explaination of events that revolutionized warfare are thorough and well-reasoned. Also, Verbruggen debunks the myth that warfare in this period was near total anarchy with little rhyme or reason. Make time for this one!

This second edition of Verbruggen, with the footnotes restored, is the best single book on medieval warfare.

Professor Haley has edited an excellent compilation of chapters on Asian business -- I thought the chapters on China, its business environments, problems and opportunities, and industrial restructuring were particularly useful. A valuable addition to the genre.

Very good review of the major Asian economies and business concerns in these regions. Especially useful as businesses enter China after its WTO entry and ponder new relationships with post-crisis SE Asia.

This is masterfully accomplished in this book, which, while been accessible and democratic in its style, is highly informed and thought-provoking.
With the traditional struggles over terrestrial supremacy being far from over, the arena of space offers a new field for the realization of the power strategies of the contemporary "Great Powers". This is turn directly affects the power relations back home (Earth, that is), shaping thus the political landscape of the near future.
The author, drawing from a plethora of geopolitical, historical and space-related records, has produced a compelling and essential read, concretly laying the foundations for a new, inter-disciplinary and highly relevant ground.

Dolman's thoughts in Astropolitik should be essential reading for anyone interested in space power and its relationship to the security of freedom, democracy and the United States in the 21st century. This book will definitely be required reading for military space leaders in the future, and should be read by every space leader or enthusaist today be they from the military, civil, or commercial sectors. Realist politics and unilateral action may be disheartening to some, and many may be opposed to Dolman's 'advice' at the end, but the logic and arguments he presents are sound and must be addressed by any potential opposition.
In all, Astropolitik will become a classic of space power theory.

Hexen 2 is probably the best game as of this day. It combines beautiful 128-bit graphics with strategy & action that only Raven software and its staff can create. Doom had worse graphics and was quite boring since there was no decisions you had to make (you were simply supposed to shoot everybody). Raven software was very creative in making this game (for example no other 3-D game ever had their boss grow in size so realistically and the archers in this game are by no means stupid--they will quickly dodge your attacks). The strategy guide for this game explains almost everything. The illustrations allow you to imagine the creatures and places better. Since Hexen 2 came out I have never seen as better game. And there probably won't be (at least until Raven software creates a new game in the Hexen series.

It's been 5 years since I graduated from college. I recently found this book in one of my storage boxes--and had to write a review because it helped me so much!

This book was truly useful for me. Like the other reviewer, I wish I had knew about it during my freshman year. The book has some very practical and easy-to-adopt tips on studying and getting motivated (with lots of research to back-up those tips, for skeptics).

I really enjoyed it becuase of it's earnest, helpful tone. Very easy to read too. Highly recommended!

Ah! Where was this book when I was a freshman? B's and A's offers a plan to raise grades that took me almost an entire college career to discover. A must have for any student (even seniors). If you like this book, you'll love "Major in Success." The invaluable tips are worth their weight in GOLD.

With a game I have never thought I was going to play 4 years ago to this day, Baldurs Gate: TOSC has went beyond my expectations. This book was no exception... I really believe that pictures in a book more than express the writing within, and that was why I found this guide to be essential in my quests. For once... the maps and strategy parts were very detailed and gave me a sense of direction. Especially when I found myself caught up with the action and failed to notice what was my next move. It never helps to be fending off dopplegangers when a trap is unoticeably behind you. It is for real. I honestly think this book is top quality and a must have. Anybody can understand this without words.

If you own Baulders Gate already you know the style of the game: quests, dungeons, etc. Tales of The Sword Coast was designed to be a chalanging add on. Even people who had little trouble in the original game may have trouble with the expansion pack.

TOSC is mainly about dungeon crawling; and that is where this book comes in handy. In some levels, there can about 50 traps. This strategy guide includes maps for each dungeon, and tells you exactly where each trap is, what it does, and percentage skill your thief needs to both detect and disarm each trap. IMHO, aside from using a cheat for extra healing potions, I don't think I would have been able to finish some of those dungeons without the book.

If you're just starting out, 'The Road To Chess Mastery' series is the one to begin with. Easy to understand language; all ideas explained; and plenty of diagrams makes it simple to follow along!

I really enjoy chess and over the past year took the first steps to improve my play. This book played an integral part and taught very important "component" skills that I use on a regular basis -- things like how to promote pawns, use the king as a fighting piece, and use the minor pieces effectively in the endgame.

The book took a few days of study with Chessmaster to complete. For someone with a day job and many other interests, this book strikes a perfect balance between content and complexity, highlighting key concepts with useful annotation (as opposed to providing an unguided encyclopedic approach that I have seen in other books.)

Cardoza/Robertie combined this book with "Basic Endgame Strategy: Rooks and Queens" in their new 2003 release called "Easy Endgame Strategies". I just bought this new book even though I already have half of the content in "Kings Pawns and Minor Pieces".

The book is not imposing and was quite enjoyable.

Battered Women and Their Families (2nd edition) is a book that every clinician should own. This book provides the expert in domestic violence, as well as social workers and other helping professionals working within a general private practice, a step by step treatment approach for victims of domestic violence. Background of the problem is discussed in section I detailing the scope of the problem, crisis intervention, and short-term treatment approaches. These first four chapters detail each step in the treatment process to assist clinicians to build treatment protocols: a first step in evaluating practice effectiveness.

Sections II and III illustrate the problems and interventions of children and adolescents from violent homes and battered women respectively. Treatments and solutions are outlined on the micro-mezzo-and-macro levels of practice with these populations. Section IV covers special populations (the elderly, substance abuse, & lesbians), and section V deals with cross-cultural issues, policies, and practices with battered women. Each of the chapters takes great care to cover current trends and treatment practices providing a magnificent state of the art resource for social workers and other helping professionals. This is the most practical book I have read on family violence intervention.

The second edition of Battered Women and Their Families is the only book of its kind. Each chapter in this collection is as compelling and well documented as the next.This volume is highly informative, especially regarding crisis intervention protocols. It should be on the shelf of every hospital and treatment center. Writers go into theoretical depth in arguing for an interdisciplinary approach to address client needs,for example, battered women with substance abuse problems or children who have abused and abusive parents. Graduate students of social work and counseling will find much relevant and useful information here.

I've always wanted to run a DCMS campaign based in 3050, but never had a good frame of reference..(okay clans invade, Turtle Bay, Wolcott..I know) But this book opens many, many doorways with Vast, detailed information concerning everything from major personalities to unit background information and insignias. A shame this book is out of stock... The book puts at your hand all the (more technical) mean to perform efficiently in your sales job. The book contains lots of tabels and worksheets which are perfect for the start. Of course - if you don't want to have any system in your work behavior then avoid this book! ;-) The book does not contain anything much about psychology, closing, arguing etc. For this I refer everybody to the topic of NLP (neuro-linguistic programming). There are even some books who make it explicitly clear what are pros of NLP to the sales person....
