This is an eye-opening book about what is happening in today's business world...post Enron post dot.com and what happens to all those gurus. This book explain why and what's wrong with tradtional stratety planning. Wonderful read!!!

thought provoker
An interesting read with worthy concepts to keep in mind. Unlike other business authors that touch upon chaos theory in a buzz-word fashion, Mootee actually addresses the gap and linkage to pragmatic application of the concepts.

Bring this on your next plane trip.

Escape Velocity
An excellent book and explains many theories about strategy and the myths. Not an easy book to read and MBA is preferable. But definitely work investing the time to read. It's the secret of management consulting and help to understand and explain what's going on in the rapidly changing Internet business landscape.

Experience those who fight the Empire today can USE
The Cuban revolutionary experience is something fighters for fundamental social change can benefit from to this day. Fidel Castro began to organize a movement of revolutionaries gathered around a leadership core of militants educated in Marxism years before the revolutionary war that overthrew the dictator Batista was begun. The revolutionaries came to be the uncontested leaders of a broad front of the bulk of the political forces that opposed the U.S.-backed tyrant. When the Cuban equivalents of "our own" Democrat-Republican capitalist hack politicians tried to snatch the leadership away, from Miami no less, they were outmaneuvered by the July 26th Movement and the Rebel Army, and their principled politics and armed struggle. This book, written by a Chilean-Cuban journalist, is a rich mine for the those who choose to resist imperialism's drive towards a New Depression, more and more wars, and fascist barbarism. Most especially, this book is for those who oppose the Empire from inside, which is where the decisive battles will take place. The inclusion of Fidel's masterful defense speech at his trial for insurrection, a classic example for stating the need for revolution-"History Will Absolve Me"-rounds this book out perfectly. Like Fidel said in Chile in 1970 (strongly similar to today's Venezuela), use these revolutionary experiences applied to your own country creatively and intelligently, and you'll win. Provided you have his same confidence in the ability of "average", "ordinary" working people to change themselves and the world through revolutionary struggle.

How Cuban People Took Power
The thirtieth anniversary of the bloody U.S.-engineered coup in Chile just past in August 2003. So what is the difference between Allende's Chile and Fidel's Cuba? In this little book on "Fidel Castro's Political Strategy," Chilean writer Marta Harnecker takes up exactly this point, how Fidel always sought to mobilize Cuba's revolutionary people. Castro and the July 26 movement always avoided either sterile electoral reform or a simple coup that focuses on the hated ruler-in this case Batista, the U.S. supported dictator of Cuba in the 1950s. Fidel's strategy was always based on progressively mobilizing and inspiring the Cuban people to take the stage of history, and he and the Cuban people have succeeded in defending Cuba's revolution pretty well also. If the Cuban people were not ready at a moment's notice to defend the revolution, do you think it could have lasted a day-and almost forty-five years later, it's still strong. Also of great value in this book is the magnificent speech, "From Moncado to Victory," which Castro gave as his defense before being hauled off to Batista's prison in 1953.

Accomplishing something greater than ouselves...
Gives the facts on why the Cuban resistance won, when so many in the Latin America of that epoch did not. Good summary of Castro's conscious drive to unity of workers and farmers, refusal of any political cosying-up to ruling figures... he really had/has unshakeable confidence in the capacity of ordinary people to fight and win. His 1953 courtroom speech, History Will Absolve Me, is included in the book -- a stirring, sensitive condemnation of the brutality of the dictatorship. Very concrete, educational, seeking to reach the ears of the people to explain why they can move into action on their own behalf.

A little pricy, but well worth it
First of all, it is well worth it to buy this package if only for the artbook. It has artwork from both Final Fantasy X and Final Fantasy X-2, including pictures from the FMV sequences in both games and all of the dressphere costumes for Yuna, Rikku, and Paine. You get one out of three covers on the strategy guide, but a good thing about that is that all three pictures are in the artbook, so if you didn't get the character you wanted on the cover you still get to have their picture. The package also comes with a 2-sided poster. The strategy guide itself includes a guide to getting the secret perfect (complete) ending to the game, which you will not be able to get on your own. Everything you get comes packaged in a folder that has the picture of Yuna on it from the game disk. This collector's guide is a must for any final fantasy fan, it is really really pretty and the guide is very helpful for unlocking the full story of Final Fantasy X-2.

Great strategy guide with some nice extras
This special edition of the Final Fantasy X-2 guide is almost identical to the other guide. This special edition includes the guide with one of three covers given randomly (either of Yuna, Rikku, or Paine). It also includes the art book with art and screens from FFX-2 and FFX. The guide itself is very helpful for the game, being mostly spoiler free. It also presents each mission you can take in an order allowing for the most out of the story. If you want to get the art book, then this is well worth it for you. If you really don't care and just want to play the game, I recommend just buying the regular guide.

must have for the Final Fantasy fan
THE GOOD: Finally an art book released to fans in the United States (usually art books containing cg art was available only in Japan). Lots of pages of cg rendered art of the charactes and of scnese from the fmvs. It also comes with one of three collectible posters.

THE BAD: A little expensive, but amazon's price makes it well worth it.

Also: From what I can tell the strategy section is not different between the Signature and the Limited Editions. If you're looking for more cg art books, elsewhere on the internet for the Japanese Final Fantasy X-2 Visual Art book

Fire Up Your Learning
This is one of the best book on accelerated learning I've ever read. This book is a must-read book for everyone who cares about education. This is the best book on the basics.
Excellent and Brilliant.

Fire Up Your Learning
I have read many books on Accelerated LEarning subject and I found this book is one of the best book I've ever read on that topic.

I highly recommend this book for teachers, trainers and parents.

An excellent start for Accelerated Learning
This book is written in a very easy to understand and easy to apply format. Is an excellent option for students, teachers and parents (specially those concerned about how to get the best from the natural ways to learn). Although this is an elementary book, is the best I know about how to introduce the reader in the ABC of Accelerated Learning: multiple intelligences, learning styles, the 3 brains theory, music for learning, memory functioning, short term memory and large term memory, etc. Besides, this book is a web based learning program (the web site is a good companion for the book).
This is a very powerful and easy to implement accelerated learning program. Tom had made a great job here. I really recommend this book for those interested in getting the best about their natural ways of learning.

5 Stars for 5 Stars
Tis is an excellent book for explaining leadership principles, based on the ultimate test of leadership-combat.
The book compiles lists of leadership traits and practices from some of the leading military manuals and strategists to create a terrific reference source. It makes suggestions on how to create a self-evaluation list for measuring one's leadership skills, knowledge and abilities and how to improve them.
As a former Marine NCO, I still use the techniques and understanding from the Corps. THis book is an outstanding refresher course or it stands alone for everyone.

The Ultimate Book on Leadership
Patrick Townsend and Joan Gebhardt draw on all the available sources (big industry and the military) to create a book full of leadership skills that is in an easy-to-read format and very practical to use. If you are a leader or a follower, this book is a must read. I am a student of leadership (Navy Officer with 17 years experience) and I have never read a finer book. Get it, read it, and then read it again!

Can you train leaders? With this book you can!
Too many people think that leaders can only be born, not trained and/or nurtured. It's a good thing that the US Marine Corps does not believe this. If they had not trained leaders, I would have grown up in New Tokyo, instead of Los Angeles.

Forget the stereotypes and take advantage of 2,000+ plus years experience of studying leadership and training leaders.

Excellent overview of contemporary and historic tactics
The dismanteling of the Soviet Union brought about a fundamental shift in how we analyze the role of a modern nuclear navy. Large fleet to fleet battles between technologically sophisticated opponents is still a remote possibility, however, surface group actions of the future will certainly resemble smaller more tactical battles as well. The idea of skirmishes and close-quarters combat between vessles must be understood. So to the more immense multi-unit combat possibilities.
This is the spectrum "Fleet Tactics" seeks to analyze. It does this remarkabley well. It also explores more intangible factors. Moral and leadership are terms often used but rarely integrated into a coherant strategy towards victory. It seems taken for granted, but the author shows how we must take nothing for granted when restructuring our tactical phillospohy. Re-examining age old ideas and historic battles is only one side of the coin. Here, we have a book that does this but holds up such notions for the purpose of building better tactical thinking.
I have read both the original edition and this newe, updated one... the changes are clear. We have a book that picks up where naval theory as of 1990 left off. While still managing to represent its original content with value towards the tactician in naval warfare.
Read this book is you are interested in more than just bland analyses of age old battles. Read it if you want to develope a strong understanding of how naval conflicts of almost every kind should be fought. Read it if you want to develope a sound understanding of the timeless tactical cornerstones in naval strategy.

Excellent Overview of Naval Strategy
Hughes brings the reader through successive eras of Naval Strategy, threading common themes about what has changed and what has remained constant, and how (and why) tactics on the water differ from those on land. His updated edition demonstrates the likely impact of advances in technology and shifting political realities on naval power, with implication on tactics, training, and equipment. The work is refreshing not only because contemporary works on naval strategy are relatively uncommon, but also because he lays out in easy to follow fashion the challenges that our navies will face. This is particularily important in an era of shrinking overseas land presence, as the Navy will be called upon to project power more frequently. His stark description of 'exchange ratios' and their implications serve an important reminder to the West of the perils of the fight. The book will comfortably take its spot on your bookshelf beside the numerous general, land, and air strategy books available. I only wish there was more written on this topic.

The tactical guide to naval combat
Covering the Age of Sail, WW1, WW2 and the Missile Age, Fleet Tactics and Coastal Combat examines the trends and constants of warfare in a comprehensive and concise book. Examining the need to mass fire power and the benefit of the first effective strike, this book provides a sound base for tactical though. Updated from Fleet Tactics, Fleet Tactics and Coastal Combat includes relevant information to the new arena that the navy will be finding its self in - littoral combat. Many examples and equations are given in this book to illustrate the points Captain Hughes makes. A must read for anyone who is interested in the evolution of naval combat.

A Fraternity of Arms: America and France in the Great War (Modern War Studies)

Excellent!! Read this Book
In the preface of his book A Fraternity of Arms Robert Bruce asserts that his intention is to refute a popular image "so widely held in America, of a historically acrimonious relationship between", (Bruce, xiii) the United States and France. Indeed Bruce's account of Franco-American cooperation is well documented, vividly expressed and covers the social, political, and military aspects of this relationship.

Bruce examines the experience of the American volunteers, including the Rockwell's, who found themselves in the Légion étrangère. Bruce points out that many of these young men wanted to fight and they wanted to find action as quickly as possible. Many of them, however wanted to serve in the regular army and found the Foreign Legion to be disappointing. They found the legion to be composed of mercenaries from many nationalities and not particularly friendly to the idealistic volunteers. Bruce points out however, that even in the face of severe disillusion Kiffen Rockwell and others still wanted to fight, but in regular French army units. Quoting Kiffen Rockwell's letter to his injured brother, "If you can get me into a French regiment, get busy, for I want out of the Legion".

Bruce provides details of the many shortcomings of the American army, especially the lack of modern heavy weapons. Chapter 4 illustrates clearly the fact that although America had tremendous quantities of natural resources and a huge industrial capacity as well, the situation was that it would inevitably be the French who would equip the American army. Bruce shows that despite heroic efforts on the part of American armaments manufacturers to build the machine guns and artillery, the allies did not have the luxury of time and could not wait for American manufacturing to come up to speed, and so the Americans would go to war with equipment that was almost exclusively French. Bruce provides as evidence a table comparing the French and British contributions of war material to the AEF during the war and in every category; the French contribution far exceeds that of the British.

Bruce provides engaging accounts of all the American engagements from Catigny the first battle in which American units play a deciding role, through Belleau Wood, the Second battle of the Marne to the Meuse-Argonne and the end of the war. He defends the Americans against those who have denigrated the American contribution to the final allied victory by quoting Ludendorf; "It was most assuredly the Americans who bore the brunt of the fighting on the whole battle front during the last few months of the war."

In the final paragraphs of his book Bruce recounts the interment of the remains of the Unknown Soldier in the tomb of the Unknowns in Arlington National cemetery with moving quotes from Field Marshal Foch and Chief Plenty Coups of the Crow Nation and then points out that:
"At the bottom of the crypt, on the hallowed ground of America's Valhalla, a two inch deep layer of French soil, gathered from the battlefields of the western front where the French and American army had fought side by side, had been spread. Here the Unknown American Soldier of the Great War rests for all eternity."
With that statement, Bruce brings his book A Fraternity of Arms: America & France in the Great War, to its conclusion having made his point that despite sometimes enormous political differences that America and France share a "fraternity of arms", and though it may be dismissed and forgotten, has formed a lasting foundation for Franco-American Relations.

a very interesting thesis
Bruce's thesis is that it was the French and not the British who were the main American allies during the First World War. During their period of training the American soldiers easily mixed with the French soldiers while having a diffcult time with the British. Moreover the French were the main trainers of the American forces and provided them with artillery peices, tanks, and guns. The French also were the main defenders of an independent American force while the Britih wanted to assimilate the Americans into British units. Bruce concludes his book by stating that all of the American actions in the closing phases of the First World War were heavliy supported by French infantry divisions and artillery. I would reccomend this book to anyone who wants a new and interesting perspective of Franco-American relationship during the First World War.

An excellent account of the AEF
Bruce's controversial thesis is that it was France and not Britain who was the main American ally during the First World War. French generals such as Joffre supported an independent American force while the British wanted the American forces to be assimilated into the British army. According to Bruce, the French trained the Americans in the techniques of trench warfare and use of artillery. Bruce believes that all American operations in the closing days of the First World War were based on close cooperation by the French army such as supporting the Americans by protecting their flanks, providing artillery support, and using planes to spot German army formations. Plus the French and not the British supplied the AEF with its weapons such as tanks and artillery peices. I would reccomend this book to anyone intereted in a controversial thesis about the clost days of the First World War and Anglo-French relations.
