Got a visual learner with special needs? This is for you!
My autistic son is a visual learner. He watches TV, computer and other children and will learn from them. In addition - abstract concepts and teaching basic academics can be done with a lot of visual support vs. auditory presentations alone.

This is a strong book to identify the issues for special needs kids and using visual strategies to solving them. I highly recommend this book.

Overflowing with useful and practical ideas!
I have read a lot of books on autism and I would highly recommend this one! The author details, in a very clear way, why
"visual supports" work well for everyone, but especially for those who have communication related disorders. Then she goes beyond the explanations to give you real examples you can use and directions on how to implement them. She has a very practical approach and acknowledges the differences and similarites needed between school and home programs.

I think this book would be invaluable to a teacher of special needs children and also the "regular ed" teacher who has a wide range of children and their individual needs to consider. Parents and caregivers will also benefit greatly from this book as it has many examples that go beyond the school experience.

One of my favorite quotes from the book is "Imagine being on one of those whirlwind package tours of Europe; sixteen cities in 7 days. You discover the tour agent forgot to give you an itinerary. Every day you don't know where you are goin, what you are going to see or when you are going to eat. Frustrating? That is how many of our students feel about life on a daily basis. It is one of the reasons we see students cling to ritual and routine."

This book is literally packed with ideas and is well worth the cover price. ....

Must resource for working & living with children with autism
When I first started working with students with autistic characteristics this became an incredible tool. I continue to use this tool with these students and other students for whom a more visual learning approach helps build success!

Title says it all
Read this book and the thought may occur to you: "This is so bloody obvious, who needs to read it in a book?" But then put the book down, read the newspapers, listen to the talking heads on TV, or attend a university lecture on the same subjects, and you quickly realize: none of it is obvious to anyone that matters. On second or third reading, you realize that what it's saying is not "obvious" at all; the book's genius consists in making a radical and controversial thesis sound self-evident.

I have one quibble, but the quibble doesn't detract sufficiently from the book to subtract a star: because the authors discuss warfare out of relation to morality, an incautious reader could easily get the impression that they are "Machiavellian" amoralists whose advice can be dismissed as "amoral realism." It isn't true, but they might have been more explicit about why not.

It really is a sad commentary on our culture that this book is as obscure as it is.

Primer
The authors refer to their book as a primer on war. It is the clearest, most useful book for those who nothing of war (or who only know things which are wrong)I have ever read. I recommended it, to no avail, to a committee of faith-based Social Justice and Peacemaking types. They, no doubt clinging to their useful errors, avoided the subject. The authors specifically refer to those who know little or nothing of war (most students these days)and they say the book is written for these folks.

One myth or old chestnut after another is analyzed and demolished. Their use of simple (and I emphasize "simple"--nothing complex) logic and historical examples known to almost all of us--nothing abstruse here--are brutal in the rapid and total destruction of some of the most commonly-accepted misunderstandings of war. For example, they discuss the Phoenix program of Viet Nam days. While acknowledging that it turned sour, they make plain what those involved knew. The Phoenix program worked, killing the cadres, the troublemakers, without killing scores or hundreds of unwilling conscripts and unlucky civilians. While being successful, it deprived the anti-war side of their masses of civilian casualties they needed to make their case. It was a two-fer. Thus, it had to be, as it was, demonized. They make frequent use of Aquinas and Augustine and the Just War Doctrine. It is not that we like war, Augustine said, but that our enemy's peace may be deadly to us. People may be murdered en masse, as we see in this century, without being in war, and fighting to avoid that is certainly moral. This book suffers from one disadvantage: Those who need it most may feel themselves superior to its message.

The best war primer known to modern man
Angelo Codevilla introduced me to the worlds of war in the late 1980's and later to intelligence in the ealry 1990's, leading partly to my career.

This book is what a modern Clauswhitz would write. Speaking in plain english on diverse subjects, he collects the type of thinking necessary to war in one book. I give this book (which is hard to find, but I managed) to every student of modern affairs.

It is hard to find the correct praise to lavish on this book without gushing. It is simply the best book of a primer on war that exists anywhere. More than introducing the student to war, it introduces him to thinking in war's pragmatic thought patterns- to the necessity that war demands.

Better, Codevilla uses his talent in context of historical necessity, drawing carefully from a bevy of beautifully chosen historical people and sitations.

You can do no better on the subject. Start thinking about war with War.

Required Reading for the Real World
This is a book for everyone who was ever enmeshed in a corporate boondoggle. Hilarious and candid, Ross tells horror stories from the New Economy that have plenty of relevance for the Old Economy.

Ross chronicles dot-com madness during the height of the vogue, no-profit frenzy. It was like the California Gold Rush of 1849 but with no location, no objective, no direction, no product, and no defined value - just big talk and empty promises. Nothing else I've read has captured it better. We always have to re-learn the lessons in this book. Why is it important? Well, I don't know about YOUR mutual funds and investments but mine went down the toilet this year. I'll be wiser next time.

This book is a therapy of laughter for those who have been there, eating bad food and listening to the mind-numbing drone of snake-oil salesmen. And it's a sobering warning for those who haven't. Wherever you are -- in the New Economy or Old Economy, a battle-scarred manager or fresh out of B School - this book is for you. With a catalog of anecdotes that will shrivel your privates, Ross shows what happens when you mix arrogance with buffoonery, brazenness with fear, and hysteria with money. He ties it all together with an easy-to-read analysis that is at times stunning in its insight. A great read and a great value that will leave you either laughing or crying, but never in doubt about the truth of the New Economy.

A must-read to understand the REAL new economy
As a second-year MBA student who is interested in e-commerce and the new economy, I have read many recent books on relevant subjects. Unfortunately too often those ooks were written by consultants or vendors who purposely created unnecessary buzz words, confusions, and self-serving exaggerations that twist the truth and mislead the reader.

Well, finally here 's a book that brings fresh, unbiased, and insightful perspectives. It is written by a global e-commerce manager from a fortune 500 company, who managed his company's e-initiatives and venture capital fund. Maybe because he is very hands-on with his job, this book does not preach complicated economic theories or strategies, rather it offers real world cases and examples that makes the book simple but powerful, and abover all, REAL. It is hence very easy and enjoyable to read.

The portrayal of corporate America in this book is precise and revealing. I wonder which company the author works for. It certainly reminds me of my internship in the east coast this summer.

This book is ideal for MBAs interested in careers in start-up, consulting, and corporate America.

A view of the real internet from the trenches of buisness
This book pulls no punches as it outlines the smoke and mirrors used to sell the internet to buisness. Brian outlines the methods used by these internet companies to obtain money and use your established company name to build their reputation, all without supplying a meaningful product. His view as a middle manager outlines the dangers company executives entertain and the burdens they place on their people when they have high expectations without understanding the true buisness model of the companies they want to partner with. Deer Hunting Beginners Must Read!
I am new to the sport of deer hunting and have no one to guide me in learning the skills needed. I purchased this book for this reason and am glad that I did so. It covers all areas of hunting needed to begin from equipment to finding locations to tracking and gutting a deer. It is advisable even for those who are veterans to the sport and wish to increase their chances of harvesting a deer. A definite recomended reading for deer hunters.

Excellent hunting book
This is the third book from the Hunting and Fishing Library that I have read and this one was as good as the others. As a begining deer hunter this book was invaluable but an experienced hunter could benefit also. It has sections on habitat, senses, guns, and equipment. It also has great sections on tactics and even a step by step photo guide on field dressing. One thing you should expect from this series of books is great pictures and this book is no exception. If you want to hunt deer, buy this book.

This book is great! Any whitetail hunter will love it.
This book is the best! It has so much information in it. It also has lots of color pictures. This book is for anyone who hunt whitetails.

Winning Management: 6 Fail-Safe Strategies for Building High Performance Organizations

Mission and Vision: Defining it and articulating it
This book is a "must have" for all managers: young and old, mature and just beginning.

For new managers, the book contains essential guidelines for establishing a vision, communicating the mission, and securing buy-in of your team members. It will help the new manager communicate effectively and establish confidence with the team.

For the mature manager (read "aged" manager), this book augments your "home-grown" techniques with many new ideas. I found the book re-inforced my "home-grown" style and augmented it with new ideas.

A Must Read!
Once again Wolf Rinke provides readers with the necessary steps to succeed... this is the second book I have read of his. It is well written, easy to understand and follow... and perhaps most importantly - easy to implement so that gaining the highest performance becomes reality. Wolf Rinke's strategies for success are second to none!

Superb book for managers
Wolf Rinke's latest book is a great addition to his collection of well-received books and and personal improvement products. "Winning Management" clearly shows the reader what must be done to excel in management. This is a practical guide to success on the job and can be used easily by any supervisor at any level of an organization. My copy is well-used!

Having seen Dr. Rinke present his strategies for success as a seminar leader and author, and also having heard the outcomes of his plans of action, I know that he can positively and quickly affect your success at work.

Very well written - superb examples
Very well written with suberb examples. A good plain-language introduction to sociotechnical systems design - Harvey Kolodny, Professor, Faculty of Management, University of Toront

very helpful book
I personally use this book as a reference guide many times in my day-to-day business and I find the examples particularly helpful Hermann Jakob, Launch Planning & Training Manager, Ford Europ

A must read
For years, all the books available on organization design were written at too high a level of abstraction for practicing managers or were so enmeshed in detail that they simultaneously confused and bored the reader. At last, with The 20% Solution, John Cotter has provided a readable and practical guide to designing organizations for todayƍs business environments. This book is a real treasure chest of ideas. A must read! - Leonard A. Schlesinger, George F. Baker Jr., Professor of Business Administration, Ha

Excellent Book!
I borrowed this book from the library and felt lost when I had to give it back. So I want to get one for myself to keep and use whenever I need to reference back to it. Great ideas that we will definitely be using around here.

Good practical advise for teaching life skills to kids
I am already utilizing several ideas from this book and I haven't finished reading it yet! The concept of teaching practical life skills to one's children to develop their self-confidence as well as helpfulness is great. My children are responding very well to new habit formation. They are also looking forward to getting their own recipe book with foods they can make themselves without Mom hanging around.

Well worth reading...and rereading periodically.
This is a great book. I've been hording my neighbor's dog-eared copy for a few years now. Every time I look at it, I find something other tool to try. I've finally decided that it is time to buy my own copy and let my neighbor lend hers to someone else who could use it.
