If you really want to knowIt's not as bad to read as a previous reviewer claimed. Of course, if you want to study rook endings more generally or less deeply, then this isn't the book for you. "Surviving Rook Endings" probably is--and it is a really good introduction. If you have any doubt, then you almost certainly want "Surviving" rather than this one.

More likely will now seek more information and knowledge with more elaborated books (not sure is really needed) but the basics are here.

One of the best guides around
NEED this book
Content Inclusive but Use IntrusiveInstead, one needs only to take their time and look around in their first outing, remembering that something is potentially an item or a place to go and that ever scrap of paper is a clue. It also should be taken into account that searching is needed, and that all enemies are defeatable, and that there are multiple endings based on time used, difficulty, on the items found, and the number of beasts killed. Since this takes multiple tries anyhow, one can find these out without the use of a visual aid.

Teaching Tips Will Keep You AfloatWhether you're wrestling with a "discussion dominator" or trying to finesse responses from silent students, this book offers proactive approaches and solutions to unforeseen challenges.
Keeping things fresh and interesting for students and yourself makes the learning experience more enjoyable. Reading, attending workshops and talking to experienced faculty are some of the suggestions the author offers. As someone who used to teach natural resource seminars, I was pleased that he acknowledged the energizing power of an effective workshop. In addition, the text also offers tips on applying new changes learned in those courses to classes.
As any instructor worth their salt is aware, teaching is an ever-evolving process, that must be honed and refined to suit both instructor and student. For anyone adrift in some arena of college instruction, grabbing onto this 379 page text will prove a worthwhile undertaking.
A must for those serious about teaching at the college levelCreating objectives, test design, learner goals, lecture formats, teaching to a diverse audience, grading, handling suspected cheaters - you name it and it is in there.
I believe it will be beneficial to any college instructor regardless of size of school. I teach at a small school and the text, though maybe slanted a bit toward the experience at the large research university, was tremendously helpful to me.
The book is easy to read. I have incorporated a lot of the strategies into this fall semester.

Good Reality CheckThis book, one of the first to be rushed to the bookstores, was written by a woman with expertise on the internet-software, e-commerce, information management. Her research for this book, probably rapid, centered on those areas of familiarity, so the content is technologically heavy. This focus is understandable, acceptable, and worthwhile-and is where the reader will find the greatest value.
From the preface, "This book does more than identify the potential vulnerabilities" It givrs you specific strategies and technologies to lock down and free up valuable resources. Each chapter takes you through a problem that has arisen in this new, less secure world. It then suggests specific strategies and technologies based on interviews with the nation's leading experts . . . each chapter ends with a resource guide." The author promises to continue expanding her resource guide at her website. There's nothing there yet, but it's a nice extra if it happens.
Part I addresses how to keep employees safe, acknowledging that safe employees are more productive than those who continually look over their shoulders. The author suggests that we overcome travel fears with virtual meetings and training, sell through the internet, and use collaborative project management software to keep people connected. Is this new? No, but the emphasis on the applications is-reactively to 9/11. If we perceived the risk to be high and continuous, these technologies would get more use. It may be, until the economy picks up, that these alternatives will be employed as cost-savers.
Part 2 is entitled "What if Your Employees and Customers Are Afraid to Open the Mail?, an obvious response to the Anthrax scare. Gutzman instructs her readers about electronic direct and transactional mail, eBilling and ePayments systems. A number of companies have been sticking their toes into the water with these techniques; Gutzman uses 9/11 as an impetus to suggest we might to more in these areas-for security reasons.
Part 3 looks at how to protect your place of business and your data. For a lot of business operators, there are some intriguing ideas here. You'll learn about biometrics technology, network security, encryption, system security. There's a chapter on using ASPs and MSPs to decrease dependence on physical plant. Understanding that this book is written by an author with recognized expertise in these issues, expect to gain some interesting insights.
The book closes with an almost obligatory chapter on succession planning. Yes, we all know that succession planning is important, but it seems force-fit into this book. I'd recommend this book if you want to dig into the technological aspects of operating more safely and effectively in an uncertain world. The book will be a valuable reference and check-list for those already somewhat familiar with the topic, but I expect that all readers will pick up some new ideas regardless of their level of technological sophistication.
About time! A book for today's world!!These challenges face each and every one of us as business owners and for any business entity.
It makes you stop and think.... (and then think again.)
This is a manual for any corporate entity focused on many different levels of security forethought!
A Must Have!
Practical Strategies for Safeguarding BusinessWhat can companies do to offset the fact that their prospects aren't attending conferences as much? The chapter on Webcasting is the best collection of what you need to know to get started that I've seen anywhere. For a change, there's actually enough information to get started without any of it being biased toward any particular vendor.
How about cutting back on direct mail so that your customers don't worry about what's in the mail? The chapter on email marketing is a great primer that explains all the industry vocabulary and why you probably don't want to rent a commercial list (the way you would with direct mail).
In short, I don't think this book is for a systems administrator; it's for anyone in business who has to make decisions about how things get done. Another nice feature of the book is that it's a fast read, which I always appreciate when I'm reading business books.

Publisher Weekly's childish reviewMore and possibly better work will follow, but for those who need a preliminary record of the iraqi battle, this book will do just that.
An interesting and worthwhile accountConcerns expressed about writing such a history so soon after the dust has settled are valid but in this case, should be put into proper perspective. Boyne's book is a history of operations. It examines what went right and wrong between March 19 and May 1, a period commonly acknowledged as the conventional phase of the conflict. Boyne details the US military's new "unconventional" approach to conventional warfare during this phase. It does not attempt to deal with the subsequent insurgency campaign which continues.
The book is best viewed as a "first-look" overview of the operations leading to the dissolution of uniformed Iraqi armed forces. It is also a primer on the doctrinal and technological changes developed since the first Iraqi conflict which allowed the campaign to be prosecuted in a new way.
Boyne is to be commended for presenting a complex subject in an interesting, readable way. One of the book's advantages is that it reflects the contemporary wisdom of the many credible sources Boyne taps to tell the story. These include those who helped design the military that went into the conflict. In this respect, it is invaluable to future historians.
It is certain that military planners worldwide are energetically analyzing what the US miltary accomplished in the major combat operations Boyne's book covers. It is also likely that many will turn to Operation Iraqi Freedom: What Went Right, What Went Wrong, as an informed introduction to the subject.
A Must Buy BookIf it were not so readable, this would make a great textbook. As it is, it should be required reading for anyone interested in studying wars and what makes them tick, especially one that was waged so recently and so much in the public eye. As one could imagine, the great majority of what we read in the print media and saw on the TV screen was, because of the nature of the beast, the parts of the conflict that included the action, the damage and the more sensational aspects of what was going on.
A concern often raised about a book produced shortly after an event is how credible it can be as an analysis considering the recency of what occurred. There usually is a suspicion that it is a quick-reaction book dashed off in hopes of a fast buck by an author "writing off the top of his head." That concern was put to rest in this case by a thorough reading of what many readers overlook in their rush to get to the main text - the front matter of the book. Here I found the a wealth of information that established the book's bona fide's for me - the acknowledgements, foreword and preface.
The acknowledgements pointed out the author's people sources, a host of knowledgeable top military and civilian thinkers who provide the book with authenticity and authority.
The foreword helps a book in two ways: first by what it says about the book and, second, by the credibility of who wrote it - in this case former Chief of Staff of the U.S. Air Force, retired Gen. Ronald R. Fogelman who stated that the book reflects the contributions of all the elements of the coalition and the new, higher level of cooperation and interdependence of the forces involved. Fogelman also stated, "The United States and its coalition partners can be proud of their work In Operation Iraqi Freedom, and this book offers the first best look at how well they did their job."
The preface then gives the author the opportunity to establish his objectives, in this case to examine the efficacy of U.S. and coalition strategy, tactics, operational methods, weapon systems, and personnel during the period of armed conflict from March 19 through May 1, 2003. This author, Walter J. Boyne, has the extensive background as a career Air Force pilot and former director of the Smithsonian Institution's National Air and Space Museum, and has generated the many contacts needed to successfully produce a comprehensive study like this.
The book then goes on to do just that in full, but readable, detail. The background of the how, who and what leading up to this war are followed by the actions taken to pursue it to a quick victory and by an explanation of the new type of warfare that made it possible. Interspersed are short, side articles such as the fascinating "How Nations Go To War" that put this one war into perspective with all other conflicts fought until then. The author inserts at appropriate places, as the book's title implies, discussions about what went right and why and what went wrong and why - and lessons learned.
Operation Iraqi Freedom is not light reading and you can't get anything from skimming it. Plan to spend some time - from beginning to end - and you will end up with a better understanding of the story behind what you read and watched in the popular press. Highly recommended.

watch out cost to implement in ur office before do itHowever, he may forget to remind readers that these require cost before enjoying the benefits, such as you need to hire a new tier of middle management if you company is too small to afford before; to establish the new channel capabilities to justify the investment on the platform bcz to access new markets; the IT system to calculate operation efficiencies such as engineering head count, material cost, and supply chain cost is also not cheap if you only have the option to use turn-key solution.....
It may be reasonable to equip product platform strategy only when benefits are greater than costs.
Unmatched User Guide to High Tech Product StrategyCore strategic vision, strategic balance, core competencies, and competitive strategy are together the foundations on which the often-ignored product platform strategy is built. Product platform strategy is the lowest common denominator of relevant technology in a set of products or a product line. Product failures in high-tech companies frequently can be traced to an incomplete product platform strategy according to McGrath. Strategic balance, product platform strategy, and competitive strategy are together the foundations of product line strategy. Product line strategy is where specific product offerings are defined.
Core strategic vision also influences the competitive strategy that high technology companies must define. McGrath provides an in-depth, practical review of differentiation strategy, pricing strategy, and supporting strategies. Supporting strategies are first-to-market and fast-follower strategies, cannibalization, and global product strategy. McGrath's examination of both time-based strategies and cannibalization is particularly interesting because both subjects are rarely covered in such a luxury of detail. McGrath finally examines the optional expansion strategy and innovation strategy. High technology companies only need them if they want to invest in expansion or innovation.
To summarize, Product Strategy for High Technology Companies is a practical guide to a management process from which even product managers from outside the high tech industry can draw useful lessons and more importantly apply them to their own product strategy.
