Excellent Information!
After being shown this book, I ordered two copies; one for my niece and one for my nephew, both of whom will be graduating from eighth grade next spring. Having gone through the experience of looking at, applying to, and choosing colleges with two sons, I can say that the information this book contains is right on the mark. It is thorough, succinctly presented, and easily understood. The list format and quotes from students present the information in a logical way that is fun to read. Organizing the lists as tasks to be considered during each year of high school makes the college search process much less overwhelming. I wish that "Countdown to College" had been available as my family felt its way through the process for the first time seven years ago.

A great book for preparing for college
This book is a wonderful resource on preparing high-schoolers to move through the college preparation and application process. I wish it had been available when my children went to college.

What a great way for my niece to plan for college!
I bought the book for my niece. Then I bought one for her mother. They are planning together for her college years. I haven't seen such a useful book in ages.

Learning to be a Thriver!
Unlike the author's earlier book, Even Eagles Need A Push, this book is about survivors and thrivers. The Thriving Inventory at the start of the book is an exercise well worth doing honestly. The score will give some perspective to your level of thrivership. The rest of the book is devoted to each of the seven components of thriving. To find value from the book, it would be useful to do all the exercises in the book. The book is an excellent workbook to discover more about yourself, your capability, talents and view about life. A useful companion to the author's earlier book, Even Eagles Need A Push.

Great for high school students
I had my technical writing class (11th-graders) read this book--they loved it and thought it was very worthwhile. It was a great springboard for discussion.

A timely life "tune-up."
Like most people, I let the day to day issues of life sweep me away. As a longtime student of spirituality, I know better than to get into the chaos and negativity around me. But alas, I'm human. It requires constant discipline to move from participation in dysfunction to focusing on what we really want for our lives. When I read David McNally's first book, EVEN EAGLES NEED A PUSH, I found it to be just what I needed to get through a difficult divorce. Now, I'm again in life transition, considering a radical career change and possible cross-country move. I'm blessed to have found THE EAGLE'S SECRET. It is almost as though this book was written especially for me. We all need to be reminded that although we don't have control over the circumstances around us, we DO have control over our thoughts. I'd like to make this book mandatory reading for everyone who is still breathing!

Informative and easy to understand
This book explains all the little nuances about buying a house. I read the whole thing and parts of it more than once before I bought my first house. It is well organized so that you can read just certain chapters if you need specific information right away. I actually sold my copy online after my house closed. Later, I ended up buying a copy as a gift for a friend. I recommend this book to all my friends who are thinking about buying a house.

As usual, the only book you'll need.
I used the Nolo Press tenants' rights book in the past to (successfully) sue my deposit-greedy/law-breaking landlords. I just used this book to buy my first home in the competitive Bay Area (yes, it's still highly competitive even in these "tough times"). Nolo's book is accurate and insightful, written in a voice that's accessible and, at times, fun and tongue-in-cheek. The organization of information, as usual, is right on. And the links and helpful sidebars are fantastic! Don't waste your money on other books. I swear this one is the only book you'll need.

Highly recommended - Nolo Press does it again
This book was recommended to us by a friend who bought a home in California. Since then, we've bought it for other friends and family. Nolo Press publishes excellent books, and this is no exception. If you only read one book on buying a home (in California), this should be it.

This is one self-help book that really helps.
I've read a lot of self-help books in my day. What they all have in common (besides the section in the bookstore from which they came) is that there are so many components to their "programs" that it is well-nigh impossible to know where to begin. Naturally, the result is usually that I don't begin anywhere, the book ends up adding to the clutter in my house, and my stress level is elevated another notch by the awareness of time and money wasted. This book is completely different. Short, easy-to-read, to-the-point chapters offer excellent, easy-to-implement steps that I have actually used! I highly recommend this book!

Just What I Needed
This is a fabulous book. The author's writing style is beautiful, inspiring and uplifting. The book flows nicely, is pleasing to the eye, and covers everything you could hope to learn about strolling gently down the path to inner peace. I've been reading personal growth books since 1995 and this has become my new favorite. I learned so much and have already put it into practice. I'm sending a copy to my mother for her birthday and recommending it to all my busy friends. Even if your life isn't busy, you can gain so much from this book. Thanks, Joan! I'm going to read your other books now!

Clarity, wit, and compassion
This is a beautifully written book: simple, clear, funny, and brief. The author shares lots of personal experiences that make it interesting to read and easier to relate to. There are 52 very short (2-3 pages)chapters, one for every week of the year if you want to use it that way. Even an insanely busy person like I used to be can read 3 pages a week!

There are so many chapters in this book that have helped me to get my life under control: Practice Patience, Understand What Saving Time Really Means, Make the Mind Your Ally Instead of Your Enemy, Try Power Whining, etc. Some of the suggestions you will have heard before, but Joan restates them with such clarity that they resonated with me for the first time.

I approached the age of 50 with the determination that I would finally quit making my life miserable with stress and over-work, and this book has given me many insights and helped me make some very significant changes. I recommend it without reservation to anyone who feels they are "too busy" and "have too much to do."

Clearly explains Magic post 6th edition.
If you started playing Magic before the "stack", two main phases and an end of turn step, this is the book for you. It clearly explains the changes that happened when WOTC changed from old rules to the new (and, once you get the hang of it, simpler) way of playing Magic.

For Intermediate Players
This book is terrific if you have been playing Magic at the starter level and now wish to expand your play, or if you (like me) have been away from the game for a while and wish to get an update on the latest card set-- the 6th edition.

There have been some simplifications and clarifications to the rules, and Mr. Buehler explains those very well. The book also contains chapters on strategy, deck construction, and the tournament scene, as well as a complete card list for 6th edition including everything on the cards except the art.

I highly recommend this book as THE resource for the 6th edition.

More than just a rule book.
This book is not only a great way to learn the NEW 6th ed. rules this book gives lots of great tips lit single card stratigies, constructed deck building, sealled deck building and lots of just plain good facts. I've been playing magic sense 1994 and I still found this book to be very usful. Buy it really you'll thank yourself later I promise.

A Book With Real Management Substance
One of the better books with thoughts on strategies and management concepts sustainable in the age of technological innovation and globalization. Certainly more substance than some of the .com and other e-commerce/customer-centric titles, with application across industries.

A book one returns to
This book focus on one issue, how to stay alive and prosper in the new network based competitive environment. The authors look at this issue from ten different perspectives, and contrary to many other "overwiev" books, they come to a coherent conclusion from all standpoints.

This book doesn't have all the answers (nobody does), but it does a very good jobb of explaining why some old truths ain't true anymore and it does point out the general directions where you should look for the new truths for the new era.

/Rasmus Larsson, Internet Business Strategist at W O G N U M

This book is a must read!
Highly recommended for individuals that wish to be current on management principles of the information age. Very readable, and informative.

You never forget such a book
Though it looks quite old fashioned to-day, it is full of sound advice that ar untemporal and international ... Hints are so well related to our human nature that you will appreciate this book whether you are chinese or from Albion (Michigan), the most beautiful small college in the world!

Short Practical Advice
This is the first time management book I read. This book contains sections of practical advice to help you get things done. I consider it almost as good as "Working Smart" by Michael Leboeuf.

My life is much more fun & balanced since reading this book!
It's truly a shame that this book is no longer stocked. Since I first read it, back in 1990, I have recycled over 8 hours, per week, back into my personal life. This is the gift of this book. I learned that time management isn't simply a bunch of random techniques that allow you to spend more time at work. Instead, it's a set of a few effective principles that allow you to spend more time in your life. To play more. Visit more. Enjoy more. It's easy-to-read and easy-to-do. Within 7 days you'll see and "feel" the difference in your life!

weLEAD Book Review by the Editor of leadingtoday.org
Good Company is an easy to read primer on discovering the basics of a successful modern business. Rosenbluth & Peters begin by dogmatically proclaiming that "companies not only can positively influence lives, they have an obligation to do so." Both Rosenbluth and Peters have been closely associated with Rosenbluth International. This organization has been a world leader in travel management. Anyone familiar with the digital economy knows that travel management has recently undergone a revolution in how it conducts business and generates revenue.

The authors define the type of company we would all like to work for! A company built on friendship and where everyone genuinely cares about each other. Does this sound too good to be true? Apparently not, as this book demonstrates how fifteen of the worlds best companies have confronted the most severe management challenges and prevailed. In contrast to the prevalent management technique of operating "lean and mean", Good Company demonstrates the opposite approach. Rosenbluth and Peters offer solutions on how an organization can discard outdated practices and create an environment of innovation, teamwork, continuous learning and joy at work. Chapter six of the book is entitled, "We're Not Born into Leadership: We Convert". It is here the authors define a valuable principle by stating that "Companies can't bestow leadership upon people; true leadership is earned with right attitude, skills, and behavior."

The cultural foundation of the books corporate examples is most refreshing. It is that the pathway to competitive success is paved by investing first and foremost in your people. The authors show how any size organization can gain a competitive edge by accepting greater responsibility for society at large and the welfare of their employees. Organizations specifically mentioned include Land's End, Hallmark Cards, Mary Kay Inc., Southwest Airlines and over a dozen others.

The Good Farm
This is a terrific book. Insightful, practical, wtitten with a crisp prose style. Beginning with Chapter 2 through Chapter 8, the authors provide a detailed summary of key points at the end of each chapter. These summaries offer excellent checklists which could, perhaps, be discussed individually during a staff or department meeting called to focus on a specific topic such as "speed.". All by themselves, the summaries are well worth the price of the book...and then some.

It is no mere coincidence that the same companies which the editors of Fortune annually rate as the "most admired" also have the greatest cap value. For the co-authors of Good Company, the term "good" refers to character as well as to competence, to decency as well as to dedication. In their book, they examine their "peers from the top 100" (Rosenbluth International is one of them), explaining why the best companies to work for are the best companies to work with.

One of the most valuable points in Good Company is that almost any company (regardless of size or nature) can learn a great deal from the family farm model. Obviously, there will be significant differences between and among companies in terms of how they define terms such as "farm land", "seeds", "crops", "harvest, "going to market", "town", etc. Fair enough. However, each farm is an organization which requires teamwork as well as hard work, careful planning and constant attention, and a healthy respect for natural forces.

Good Company examines two models: the Rosenbluth "farm" as well as the generic "family farm." In process, Rosenbluth and Peters take a close look at fifteen other companies which vary widely in terms of size and nature. "What do all of these companies share in common?" Good Company answers that question. "Why are these same companies rated the most highly respected?" Same answer. An abundant harvest awaits those who care as fiercely as they compete.

A must read for people in any type of business
This was a great read. Simple to understand and apply to any business. A very valuable read especially for your boss. Goes into great detail on how to create a winning environment where people can excel and even be happy working.

good advice on money; but nothing spiritual about it
The book is what it seems--a commonsense introduction to everyday business practice in a lovely little edition with a nice price--but for one thing. The authors are not what you might expect from this publisher, people interested in higher consciousness (for lack of a better term), but perfectly ordinary capitalist apologists of the same sort the business schools (and I am a graduate of one!) turn out every day. On the west coast even the bankers mouth a few bland whole-earth type new-ageisms here and there, I suppose; enough to get published by Shambhala, anyway. Buy it for business advice only and save your soul elsewhere, if you have one left to save after you're done worshipping the author's god, Mammon.

How to succeed with integrity in the workplace.
A refreshing restoration of faith that you CAN make money without compromising your ethics. An excellent read that you will refer to again and again.

This is my Business Bible
I purchased this book in 1987 just before starting my business. "Honest Business" affirmed every belief I had about how business should and could be practiced. Even concepts such as a business' responsibility to the community it conducts business in is discussed in depth. "Honest Business" gave me the courage and the steps for conducting business without foresaking my personal principles, morals, and objective.
