Ultra-Powerful Self-Help Book, Sutphen's Best WorkDick Sutphen's nearly 20 years of research and study of human potential led to this ultra-powerful book that is a quick read. One of the few books that is so full of profound observations it holds up well after several re-readings. Sutphen has a talent for using few words to transmit life-changing messages of overcoming our individual blocks to happiness and fulfillment. All this and a bargain price to boot!

Refreshment for the mindDr. Morris has written a wonderful "slice of life" book that illustrates universal christian struggles and principles by showing how they play out in the real lives of himself and his patients. He has chosen deep and moving examples of problems we all face and presented them in an engaging style. Many times I felt his words resonated with feelings I have had in similar situations. When writing about real people " you can't make this stuff up." and Dr. Morris' chapters are each real and better than a scriptwriter could pen.

The title sums it up.Fr. Dilanni's book examines the vocation of religious life in light of the postconciliar fallout that has affected the Catholic Church. He discusses the need for religious life to be something special, to be an adventure, if it is to continue to attract members.
I recommend this book for anyone exploring a religious vocation as well as the decision makers of religious orders and congregations.

Warm, funny novel about the "Catholic crisis"What a wonderful, funny and original novel! The conservative Catholics of a small midwestern diocese are dismayed when the successor to their just-retired and very conservative bishop turns out to be - well, as far to the left as the old one was to the right! Many Catholics who've survived the turmoil of the 60's and 70's will identify with the townspeople's dismay as the "liberals" take over. And yet -- while the author obviously shares their conservative ideology, he makes us understand and sympathize with the motivation, if not the action, of those on the left. By the end of this novel, you will find yourself thinking that maybe - just maybe - God really knows what He's doing, after all! (And best of all, it's not "preachy" like some religious novels tend to be - just a really good story!)

Connects health with mental & spiritual attitudesI read this book almost 30 years ago and I still mentally refer to it. Each chapter considers a different organ or physiological system and talks about how it relates to various attitudes. She draws on common expressions, such as "shouldering a burden", "walking a hard road" to show that people intuitively know that there is a connection. Then she talks about healing illnesses by changing our attitudes. For instance, pain in the shoulders may derive from a "false attitude" that life or something about life is burdensome. She's heavier on the bible than need be but I loved her positive attitude. Oh, and doesn't she have the best name - I love to say it.

The Renewal of the Heidegger-Kant Dialogue: Action, Thought, and Responsibility (Suny Series in Contemporary Continental Philosophy)

An excellent treatment of a complex subjectHeidegger's dialogue with Kant is often disparaged from many directions, not least by Heidegger himself. It is one of the virtues of Frank Schalow's splendid new book that the importance of the dialogue with Kant throughout Heidegger's career is thoroughly demonstrated. Schalow shows that rather than being an eccentric sideline, Heidegger's grappling with Kant served to inspire him from the earliest to the latest stages of his thinking. However, Schalow's book is not quite a renewal of Heidegger's dialogue with Kant, but rather he himself attempts a dialogue with Heidegger on those aspects of Heidegger's thought that crop up in his dialogue with Kant. This makes Schalow's book not so much a renewal of the dialogue as an attempt to appropriate it: Schalow intends that his book should "carve an independent path of thinking beyond the explicit reflections of either philosopher" (xiii). Schalow presents Heidegger's treatment of Kant in the context of the development of his philosophy as a whole. Throughout, he demonstrates how important the dialogue with Kant is for Heidegger in his attempt to pose his central questions. But Schalow's treatment of the Heidegger-Kant dialogue is at its most distinctive in his discussion of issues addressed by the subtitle of the book: "Action, Thought, and Responsibility." Schalow tries to clarify the ethical issues that arise out of Heidegger's thinking, without trying to distil some ethical system out of it. In particular, Schalow examines Heidegger's discussion of the connection between freedom and responsibility, while not forgetting the pivotal role that truth plays here. In doing so, Schalow addresses the role of technology here, and also the vexing question of Heidegger's notorious association with the Nazis. Given that Schalow's book covers a great deal of material, one would expect that certain issues are merely touched on. In particular, I would think that those who are sceptical of the role Heidegger's dialogue with Kant played in his thinking would want a discussion of exactly what Heidegger did reject in his dialogue with Kant, and why he rejected it. However, it is a measure of the worth of Schalow's book that while it may not solve all questions, it is at the very least a stimulus to further study.

Great Interpretation of the 12 Steps For Divorced Dads! This booklet is short, but sweet. It helped me apply the 12 Steps to my journey through the divorce experience. I now realize that I was trying to control so many things (like my ex and the court)that were outside of my control. Now I can focus on myself and my kids, instead of the less important stuff.

Best critical study of a widely misunderstood movementA controversial book, Amanat's Resurrection and Renewal is by far the best critical, historical account of the early Babi movement up to 1850. The study avoids the usual pitfalls of enagaging in the excessive pietism and platitudes associated with the Baha'i apologetic and hagiographical sources as well as the largely biased and polemical rhetoric and diatribe used by Babism's orthodox Muslim detractors against it. By doing so the author finds a happy medium that is objective as well as being sympatheic. A must read for any serious student of nineteenth century Iranian history and post-Islamic movements.

Must read regarding REVIVALIt touches my heart. I think all the Christians should think about this topic and work up with it. The auther used simple verses of Bible and described problems of churches. Most important thing, he figured out the step we can follow and the concept we should keep in mind.
