What a great little book this is! Mike Lawrence believes that communication between partners is the key to playing good bridge. Regardless of one's level of play; beginner, intermediate, or advanced, without an understanding of what partner is "saying" the game will be lost. Mike Lawrence presents bridge players with a series of questions and answers covering all the common bidding approaches from the simple natural bids to the complex conventions. All partners and prospective partners should read Lawrence's book together and discuss those areas that pertain.

As the co-editor (with Dr. Stanley Krippner) of Dreamscaping, I found Jenny Davidow's book filled with brilliant, insightful and creative ways to work with one's dreams. So wonderful, in fact, that I chose an excerpt from her book and included it with the other world leading authorities on dreams. A rare and worthwhile find that is filled with personal stories, anecdotes, and exercises.

This book will challenge you to think about relationships between men and women in a whole new way. Ruth writes with clarity and insight about the strength and energy that men and women bring to the church when they serve it together. A challenging and insightful read, I recommend it, especially to those in ministry.

This book provides an aoustanding integration of contemporary clinical theory, practice theory, and basic casework. Often MSW students fail to understand the clinical significance of direct services (often we don't tell them) and make apologies for that kind of work.
Dr. Applegate brings the somewhat amorphous ideas of Winnicott
into practical and applicable focus in a manner that demonstrates the wisdom and heart of social work.

This extraordinary conference in Nairobi in March 2000 on "Alleviating Poverty in Africa" was sponsored by the World Bank and the Council of Anglican Provinces in Africa and covered a wide range of critical issues facing African nations today. It was the first followup on discussions between the Anglican Church and the World Bank at the 1998 Lambeth Conference. It should be read by anyone interested in Africa's problems and approaches to helping Africans help themselves.

In addition to introductions by James D. Wolfensohn, President of the World Bank and George Carey, Archbishop of Canterbury, there are excellent review papers on the overall situation in Africa, and a summary, including some excerpts, of the World Bank's exhaustive survey "Voices of the Poor." Other topics include Conflict Prevention, Post-Conflict Reconstruction, Corruption, Gender Inequity, Women's Issues in Health and Education, AIDS, Roles of Public and Private Sectors, Microcredit and Microfinance, the Role of the Christian Faith in Development, the Role of the Church in Poverty Alleviation, and my own paper, "Creating a Climate for Private Sector Investment."

As one who attended most of the sessions, I found this book provides a fascinating glimpse into the spiritual dimensions of poverty. A majority of the authors are African. For that reason, the book provides refreshingly different insights from those often found in publications published in Washington, DC.

This is a useful book for anyone who wants to learn more about the problems in Africa as well as those who are more expert and already involved in trying to help to solve some of those problems. At 243 pages, it is very readable and easy to take along for airplane reading.

A great book for anyone interested in current taxation of partnerships with up to date examples. Recommended.

The organization of this book makes corporate and partnership tax law more approachable than I ever thought possible! Kwall's use of Examples throughout the book takes concepts and makes them concrete. Clarity is further gained through Problems he provides which often mimic the Examples so that you can try them on your own. The division of the book into sections on Contributions, Distributions, and Operations also allows a good side-by-side comparison of the various tax consequences of different business entities. Excellent. Highly recommend it for anyone struggling to grasp such dense material.

Luck placed the author in Germany at the perfect time to chronicle an unprecedented historical event (German reunification), as well as the response of the German Labor Movement. Turner does an excellent job of synthesizing complex issues and events in a way that appeals to both a labor movement novice and an expert. A critical foundation for anyone who wants to understand the issues confronting the European Community, and Germany, today.

The Golden web is one of the few books that has the same attunement as Dorothy MacLean's "To Hear the Angels Sing". Her contact with the Devas and nature spirits is inspirational, and in my mind is a sort of continuation of the work that Dorothy started. If you want a Devic view of reality, read this book!

This guide was of invaluable assistance to me in forming my new corporation. It makes what can be a daunting task seem relatively simple: it is clearly written, well-organized, and extremely thorough, and its tone is friendly and encouraging. Not only does it have the (correct!) phone numbers, addresses, and fax numbers for all the relevant filing agencies, but any forms that you might need are available electronically, at no additional cost, from the author. Staff is also available by phone to answer questions; I called several times and found them to be consistenly helpful and responsive. I can't recommend this book highly enough if you are planning to start your own business!
