Excellent reading! Thoroughly recommended!
If there was ever a book whose time has come, Partnerships Tools is it!

We live in a time of freedom in our relationships---now, more than ever. In the past we were expected to marry and stay married, no matter what. Now, the divorce rate is soaring and many couples have no idea why or what to do about it. Indeed. "They believe that somehow there is something wrong with them because they don't already know how to make their relationships work, that somehow their lack of skills means that they are inadequate or stupid."

Help is here. Psychotherapist, consultant and author Alan Konell provides the means to deal with these new freedoms and for our needs for even more intimacy than ever. Partnership Tools enables the reader to make healthy choices and clear away old patterns to sustain and grow in our relationships. And this growth can only lead to evolution as human beings---individuals, families and the world.

In his easy-to-read writing style, Mr. Konell leads us to an understanding of 14 different tools for success. Partnership Tools includes forgiving, and requesting rather than complaining. We learn how to set boundaries, express appreciation, to be straight and share. And the evolution from conditional love to unconditional love: giving and receiving freely and making true commitments.

Alan's last chapter has to do with rituals in relationships. In this powerful segment we read how rituals help us step back and take the space we need to remember our connection to our partner. And to remember our commitments, "...to what was, what is and what will be. It is a celebration of achievement and an acknowledgement of our contribution, to each other."

Partnership Tools is not just a good book, it is a great book. Alan Konell has provided a new set of tools to create dynamic and fulfilling relationships. This reviewer regards Partnership Tools as a must-read for better communications and happiness, one that you should run to get, not just walk!

Written from a very practical point of view
Partnership Tools: Transforming The Way We Live Together by psychotherapist Alan Konell is an emotional self-help book that enables readers truly understand such vital practices to a relationship as forgiving, expressing conditional and unconditional love, making true commitments and much, much more. Written from a very practical point of view, chapters discuss not only how to improve the bond with one's partner, but also what to do when good intentions are not clear or obstacles to communication are seemingly too great. Partnership Tools is strongly recommended reading for anyone aspiring to, or involved in, a personal relationship.

Read this book before it is too late!
It is not too late for America to wake up and change her ways! Read this insightful book and start doing your part to solve the problems NOW. (For the savvy readers, another recommendation is "New Inequality" by Richard Freeman.)

Wonderful book that addresses the 70% who don't get a degree
Smith provides a well written pictures of the differences in how the US elementary and secondary schools differ from our global competitors. He illuminates the way Japan & Germany prepare the non-college bound for productive careers in today's economy. It stimulated my thinking about our school systems for the 70% who never get a degree and are ill-equiped for tomorrow's careers.

Great Book
School Business Partnerships are the wave of future successful public school education. No longer can public schools be expected to do the job of educating our youth by themselves. It is going to take a collaborative effort between business and education to develop partnerships that will best serve the communities needs. By working together, communities will become stronger and be able to provide the best possible education for their youth that is possible. This book provides the blueprint for the development of partnerships - is an easy read - and provides real samples of pathways to follow. Good Job!!

Partnership believer
This book does a really great job of emphasizing relationships between schools and businesses to help students. I am impressed that the authors understand the importance of such partnerships being student-centered rather than adult centered.

Plus they have lots of practical suggestions for schools, PTA's, businesses, and other organizations for getting started. It's great to see this book on the market. Very unique and useful!

Why struggle finding clients? Let a good partner find them.
I first heard about the power of creating business alliances from master business consultant Jay Abraham. This concept isn't new. Just look around and you'll notice hundreds of business alliances. However, the value of SmartMatch Alliances is in the detail of how to put alliances together.
The first thing many of us don't realize is whether we are ready to work with another company (and whether they are ready to work with us.) The straightforward checklists provided help us answer this crucial first question. Once we deem ourselves ready, then we can start looking at what specific offers of value we might propose to the multitude of potential partners out there. The authors give us clear ideas for what offers to consider and what types of companies that might benefit from an alliance with our companies. Anyone struggling to get more business will gain a lot from this book.

SmartMatch Alliances
SmartMatch Alliances offers a win-win approach to
growing your business. The strategy involves teaming
with a non-competitive partner who is offering
products or services to the same clients, customers,
and prospects you want to attract.

Judy and Ernest provide an eight-step strategy for
implementing this approach. They provide the tools
and direction for in-depth analysis in choosing
alliance partners that strategically offer you the
greatest opportunities. They also emphasize the
importance of identifying alliances where each partner
gains equally from the relationship.

The book has worksheets and checklists for working
through the process. There is also a companion
Alliance Journal to further assist you. This book
enables you to identify and target your audience with
precision. Using the approach outlined in the book
results in accelerated business growth and efficient
use of resources.

Soul Talk is for Everyone
My wife of twenty years and I are happy to have found Soul Talk. It provides us with insights about our relationship that we had not considered. For example, I had not considered how the words I use might not be processed by my wife in the way I meant them. Our brains are wired differently and the book gives us exercises to practice communication that works. We would recommend each person read the book separately, compare notes by chapter, and then use the information to learn how to talk more effectively to each other. Any relationship will grow through Soul Talk.

Straight-up. A real eye-opener.
This is the stuff we all knew intuitively as children but forget by the time we are old enough to appreciate it. Ms. Atwood helps us connect or reconnect with a spouse, a friend, and really anyone else in our lives with the most powerful tool we have at our disposal - our natural and uniquely human ability to communicate.

Their solution? Mutually beneficial alliances. A definite primer for networking!
Networking may seem like an obvious way to tell people about your business, but this book is full of wonderful details that help you build your business by cross-promoting and working with other entrepreneurs.

In their usual personal style, the authors define the various strategies for business arrangements, allowing you to choose the ones that are right for you.

You will learn the 10 effective ways of teaming up with others, how to find the right people to network with, business aspects of joint relationships, continuing the working relationship, and when to move on or stay on your chosen collaborative path.

A definite primer for networking, I recommend that any business owner, especially those in home business, learn the principles covered in Teaming Up.

Necessary success strategies for the future of work.
The choice is no longer should you go into business for yourself but when. Eventually we will all be self employed. Current employment trends, as spelled out by Jeremy Rifkin in "The End of Work," show that within the next decade over 90 million of today's 124 million jobs are in danger of elimination due to technology. Countless articles have been written about developing your resume while you're still employed and how to act as if you are self-employed even while working for a corporation. Today, more than at any other time in our history, we are being faced with the probability of losing our job and having to find another or becoming self-employed. The strategies, techniques, self-tests, and advice contained in Teaming Up are absolutely essential for everyone who plans to continue working into the future. It is a must read for all of our members. Chris Hansen, President, The Home Based Business Council, Inc.

Technology Exchange in the Information Age: A Guide to Successful Cooperative R & D Partnerships
Published in Paperback by Battelle Pr (December, 1997)
Authors: John Lesko, Phillip Nicolai, Michael Steve, and Phil Nicolai
Amazon base price: $29.95

The most useful source on this subject.
This book is written primarily for people considering cooperative technical efforts between government and industry (from either side of the table). Although based on studies funded by the Air Force, the findings are applicable to industry cooperation with any mission-oriented government lab. The basic concepts apply to cooperation between any organizations with contrasting cultures. The book "starts from the beginning" for the new player, but even the most experienced practitioner will find something useful.

When I was manager of the Army-wide Technology Transfer Program, I found the First Edition so useful that I gave copies to the technology transfer representatives at each of the 50+ Army Labs. This new edition is timely because of rapid changes in the environment in both government labs and industry, as well as changes in the law and in Administration policy which make cooperation easier.

The authors consider the impact of cultural factors on technical cooperation, and show by example how cultural barriers can be overcome. In this case, the most important cultural factor is the contrast between the very reasons the organizations exist- "mission" vs. "profit". Most government labs are created and funded to achieve a specific "mission" (e.g. develop some type of military system). Diversion of effort from the mission is seen as improper and possibly illegal. In contrast, most industrial companies are created to make a profit for their owners. Undue delay, risk to intellectual property, or other threat to profit is unacceptable. Before these organizations can cooperate effectively, there must be a reasonable prospect of advancing the lab's mission while providing a (present or future) profit to the company. Finding mutually interesting projects and negotiating mutually beneficial agreements requires vision and understanding. The authors point out some of the needs and constraints likely to motivate each party, and provide examples of successful agreements.

Fortunately the law permi! ts arrangements which are much more flexible than those controlling government procurement, and the authors explore these options. The most popular tool, the Cooperative R&D Agreement, is analyzed in great detail.

The authors also address the practical problem of finding potential partners and provide a list and description of several matchmaking organizations, mostly government- funded, which facilitate contact between the parties. In the last few years the World Wide Web has become especially useful for finding partners, and the computer disk included with the book speeds access to the most important sites.

This book is really useful because it combines a broad conceptual understanding with a direct approach to practical problems. It combines the "why" with the "how" in a manner which is rare in any book on any subject.

Cooperative effort offers significant opportunities, but has many pitfalls. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to profit from the opportunities and avoid the pitfalls.

A unique, essential resource for technology exploitation.
This book is about technology application for competitive advantage in the international marketplace. It is a progressive, how-to handbook that leads the reader from the foundations of government-industry differences to the capstone of government-industry cooperation in joint efforts of technology deployment, economic strength, and national security.

The book is a second edition of a previous sell-out success. The new edition arises from the information explosion, and new government policies in the Technology Transfer and Advancement Act of 1995.

The authors discuss the nitty-gritties of core competencies, funding and profit, and intellectual property rights. They address risk, technology cycle time, product versus process orientation, and the Federal Acquisition Regulation culture.

The chapter on "Building Bridges" is especially useful, describing three elements of successful technology exchange: networking, team building, and face-to-face coordination. The text defines "bridging organizations" as those that exist to enable technology exchange. It lists many examples in an appendix and in an enclosed disk file that includes clickable web site addresses.

A key contribution is the careful description of the cooperative research and development agreement (CRDA), which is a powerful, yet complex, mechanism for technology transfer. The book includes a model CRDA that may be used by readers to develop their own working agreements in practice.

The authors discuss measurement, including both activity and process metrics, and offer examples for consideration. They close with a discussion of leadership as an encompassing influence, and present a seven-step prescription for technology transfer success.

This is a book for the real world. Those who battle in the business arena--and seek new means to prevail--should not pass it up.

Ten Houses: Miller Hull Partnership (Ten Houses)
Published in Paperback by Rockport Publishers (August, 1999)
Authors: Oscar Riera Ojeda and Aaron Betsky
Amazon base price: $25.00
Average review score:

True Northwest Architecture
This book represents an extrodianry environmental focus for design. The houses created by the Miller/Hull Partnership display architecture originality combined with a keen knowledge of the northwest. Each house is created in harmony with it's surrounding environment--a beautiful representation of both art and archecture.

Please note the customer review entitled, "Architecture Reference Book," does not reflect the correct designer. The architects represented in this book are David Miller, Bob Hull, Norm Strong, and other very talented designers from the Miller/Hull Partnership.

Architecture Reference Book
The book reviews ten houses designed by Christian De Groote which are built in Chile round about 1988 to 1991. All the houses are contemporary and there are good photos of the houses. There is not much explination or description, however this is nor really expected of an Architecture book, since Architecture is more of a view and see experience. I thought that Christian in his designs had many great ideas. Perhaps he is not the most famous designer but I liked his designs very much and hope to incorporate some of the design ideas in the house I am building.

Great Desk Resource
I'm a tax attorney and I have this book as a desk resource. It is a great general text on a variety of tax issues. This book has helped me find the quick answers to countless "simple" tax questions.

Comprehensive Textbook covering Corporate Tax
This textbook has a counterpart INDIVIDUAL INCOME TAX, also published by West's Federal Taxation that is used extensively by business schools as well as accounting classes covering all the aspects of taxation.

The book is written in an easy to understand manner, which follows the most important codes that are used in tax today. The only drawback of these books are the fact that since the tax codes are constantly changing, the books are updated about every year.
