A Must Read!
This is one of the BEST self-help books I've ever read about relationships. The author explains the different types of love relationships -- what makes them work, what makes them fail, and why people are drawn to others -- and it is amazing how quickly the reader can apply the categories to past and present amours. The author uses examples that the reader can easily relate to and understand. This is extremely valuable information, and I would highly recommend this book to anyone who has ever failed at romantic relatioships in the past and would like to succeed at one (just one!) in the future. Personally, I have it almost memorized and have given it to many of my fellow singles with the hope that next time, armed with knowledge and awareness, we will do better.

If there's any way you can find this book...........
This book is a very limited edition and quite popular therefore it is very difficult to find. I must confess to finding it at an British publisher. If anyone is interested in how a golf course architect thinks and what they actually do, then this is a must book for you. It contains many of the letters between Colt, Allison, and Morrison that discuss many of the aspects of golf course architecture. This book also contains a great biography of H. S. Colt as well.

excellent book
I'm not a professional designer, nor do I claim to be, so this review will be based on what I discovered from the book.

This book is full of wonderful pictures of Japanese restaurants around the world, rooms decorated so elegantly, youd expect to spend $100.00 a plate easily at any of them. Each restaurant profile lists the designers intentions, design materials, colors, and even a detailed blueprint of the layout. Im not sure you need any more than what is in this book, I spent two hours reading and looking through this book, and I only got 1/4 of the way through it. I found myself staring in awe at what these designers can do with minimal space to use the Japanese culture and aesthetics in making these architectual masterpieces. A definite must if you are looking to integrate asian design elements into your home or office. There are so many design elements that can make even the plainest home seem elegent, streamlined and beautiful.

Excellent for the public and pastoral caregivers
Joretta Marshall writes this book not only for pastoral caregivers, but also for the general public. She clearly defines words such as lesbian, homosexuality, heterosexism, sexism and identity. This book is a wonderful introduction for how the wider public can best relate to and affirm women who are in covenantal partnerships with other women. She also emphasizes the crucial importance of the role that pastoral caregivers play in counseling women in lesbian relationships. It is imperative, she says, that pastoral caregivers affirm lesbians in their relationships as well as challenge institutions, such as the church, to accept and affirm the relationships that women have with women.

Changed my Attitude and Life
When God speaks to us we never know what form it will be in. I believe God led me to read "Distant Partner" by Christian based author, Dr. Les Carter. Distant Partner taught me how to communicate with my spouse. Not only did the book teach me how to be a better communicator, but it showed me how to be secure in myself and not rely solely on my spouse for my inner-security and happiness. I highly recommend this AWESOME book! This book changed my life.

Medicine from the inside, and it's not pretty
Despite its bland title this is a harrowing expose of the relationship between doctors, hospitals and patients. It's also a moving personal story about catastrophe, agonizing recovery and adjustment.

A week after graduating with honors from Harvard Medical School, Heymann suffered a severe seizure and was rushed to the emergency room. Awakening with no memory of the event, she found her arms and legs strapped to a hard slab. Unable to move, surrounded by strangers, she was terrified and kept calling for her husband, wondering what "they" had done to him. No one answered her cries.

And this was only the beginning. As Heymann describes the nightmare of awaiting diagnosis, clinging to the stoicism she learned as a medical student - good patients are quiet patients - she begins to understand that hospitals are constructed around the convenience of the professionals. She reflects on the small things that might ease a patient's anxiety - knowledge mostly. Explanations about what is happening and what they can expect of themselves on release.

Heymann had bled into her brain and surgery was recommended. The operation was botched, through medical oversight, but Heymann's anger about this is less than her anger at the lies, evasions and brush-offs which follow. After numerous conflicting reports, her doctor tells her the hemangioma had all been removed. But one of the books most chilling passages comes later. The pathologist's study concluded that her hemangioma had not been removed. Her doctor never informed her of this report (she does not say how she learned of it).

Discharged after surgery, Heymann is so weak that watching television is too taxing and caring for her toddler son is impossible. No one was prepared for the sort of care she would need. And Heymann herself refuses to compromise her ambitions. She believes strongly that meaning in life comes from helping others. She and her husband (also a doctor) had always intended to work in a clinic in a third world country. They also want a second child.

So she embarks on her grueling internship as soon as possible, terrified of the seizures which may wreck her career. Numerous heart-tugging case histories are interspersed with her own halting progress. Explaining procedures and home care to her patients, she shows how the frightened "difficult" patients are calmed and easier to treat when given a modicum of understanding.

This well-written, moving and deeply scary memoir should be widely read but probably won't be. In a letter Heymann wrote to the New England Journal of Medicine protesting prejudice against people with seizures she described herself as "a physician who has both treated patients with seizures and lived with seizures." The Journal removed only four words. "They would not print that I had lived with seizures, only that I had treated others."
