A marvellous and fascinating historical story.
A marvellous read which explains clearly the emergence of Irish radicalism throughout the 17th century and in particular the formation, idealogy, and development of the United Irishmen during the 1790's. The influence of French radical idealogy during the late 17th century is thoroughly investigated as is french interest and activity in Ireland during the 1790's.

An excellent, thorough history of the United Irishmen
Marianne Elliott has created a masterpiece, a must for any serious student of Ireland or anyone who wants to understand Irish history and politics. Her insight into the United Irishmen and their relationship with France makes for a readable and well-researched piece of scholarship.

Brilliant and Deep Exploration of the Subject
In deft strokes, "Partners or Competitors" sets the stage with both Europe and America vying with each for a piece of the trade prize which is Asia. Although there is a history of competition between the U.S. and the EU, the economic downturn in Asia made both aware that they were in the same boat, in that both were going to suffer substantial losses due to debt that is unlikely to be repaid.

The competitive systems of the EU and the U.S. are similar, which creates a concomitant desire for similar outcomes in trade negotiations with Asian countries. The mutual interests between the EU and the U.S., especially in light of an Asian economic downturn, would seem to compel cooperation on trade issues and, perhaps, shared economic pressure on Asia to comply. However, there are enormous barriers to cooperation--some of which are inherent in the structure of the trade organizations currently used to negotiate international trade agreements.

The editors have put together an impressive array of contributors who, together, have written a careful exploration of the prospects for Asian trade liberalization along with the barriers to U.S./EU cooperation. Some of it is descriptive, some of it is prescriptive, all of it is brilliant.

This book is an absolute must for anyone interested in international trade negotiations, European/U.S. cooperation to affect trade policy, and the application of political power to open foreign markets.

Bravo.

Absolutely Brilliant!
This is now require reading for all of my students

Partners.com: How to Profit from the New DNA of Business

Michael Cunningham believes online alliances are one of the most effective tools for developing the power and leverage needed to prosper in today's business world. An avid practitioner of such arrangements in his own Harvard Computing Group consulting firm, Cunningham presents a strong argument for these affiliations, along with a comprehensive guide to their creation in Partners.com. "Today, it is no longer possible for firms to do it all alone," he writes. "Whether it is hardware for a computer system, a hosting service to provide e-commerce capabilities, or a distribution partner that will sell and service products, partners are essential." Showing precisely why these associations are particularly potent in areas like sales, finance, and distribution, Cunningham details the steps involved in their formation and implementation, beginning with the partnership he considers most essential: the one that must be forged between organizations and their employees before any of these others can even hope to succeed. Drawing upon winning coalitions created by B2B and B2C endeavors such as eBay, GoFish.com and Convistint, Cunningham then delves into everything from the technology involved to the contracts required. The result is a thorough examination aimed at those serious about finding innovative ways to improve their operations. --Howard Rothman

A REAL WORLD GUIDE TO PARTNERSHIPS
Complex topics such as partnerships tend to be covered in a very fragmented manner. Partners.com does not have this problem. Cunningham ably deals with the people, process, technology and market issues that forge partnerships, but also how to manage, measure and change them. Rarely are these areas covered in sufficient detail, but here there is a roadmap with milestones and strategies that are working in the marketplace. Partners.com does for partnerships what Patti Seybold's Customers.com did for customer relationships. A classic!

Don't be fooled by the .com in the title- this is for all
This book is a prize! For those that are looking for the details behind partnerships the information here is not only relevant, but very comprehensive. The mixture of technology, strategy and culture required to pull of good partnerships is difficult for organizations trying to make it happen. Cunningham provides not only a great roadmap, but illustrated with real world examples of what has and has not worked. Do not be fooled by the .com in the title, this book is targeted at all businesses. I particularly liked the sections on self-service Partnerships and the "most important partners, your staff". A practical piece with great strategic insight. Organizations will be able to use this to hone their competitiveness, internal and external consultants will buy to emulate all that has been learned on this topic.

My son loves this book.
This book has really helped my 3 year old son to settle down and allow God to draw close to him. He really loves for me to read him this book over and over again.

Quick and simple prayers for the little ones.
Prayers kids can say at breakfast, at playtime, at bedtime, or anytime! Quick words to talk to God with about thankfulness, learning to share, good wishes for someone who is sick, and more. This is a board book with adorable illustrations and tabs to take you to just the right prayer you want. I read these to my 9 month old daughter who not only listens, but enjoys turning the pages and chewing on it as well. It's holding up well!

This tops my top 10 list on Best books on Negotiation
Surprise! A sales book tops my list of negotiation resources. But this sales book focuses on the most basic communication strategies which, if mastered, form the basis of any interaction--including negotiation. Sales Effectiveness Training is an offshoot of Gordon's earlier book, Parental Effectiveness Training (PET), itself an invaluable negotiations resource. But I didn't think that even I could convince people to read a parental training manual to improve their negotiation skills. For extra credit, check out PET; it's well written, by Gordon alone; he develops his examples in greater depth than is done in Sales Effectiveness Training. What's exciting about Sales Effectiveness Training is its unique emphasis on skills we'd otherwise overlook. When most people come to me for advice, they want to know what to say, and how to say it. But the most important thing is how you listen, not what you say. This book puts the importance of listening skills -- both as a technique for understanding and as a method of creating rapport in the context of sales effectiveness. Other Batna.com articles will examine these principles in the specific context of negotiations; but the material in Sales Effectiveness Training is highly valuable as is.

When the client runs the show
When in presence of a salesperson I have the impression he/she leads the discussion where he/she wants to go. The main difference with Sales Effectiveness Training is that the client leads: the salesperson acts as a consultant, faciliator to help the client make his/her own decision. That brings trust and make THE difference

Sisters by Heart - Partners in Aging
I have just read this book and loved it! Congratulations to the author on what should prove to be another bestseller. You have found wonderful humor in the experiences you have shared. It was inspiringto read about what comes with age in your lives together. There is such wisdom. Nothing can change who you've become because of where you've been and what you've experienced.

Sisters by Heart - Partners in Aging
I loved the book! Two very brave women through kindness, respect and patience survive twnty years of friendship and love. What a great story.

The Solo Partner: Repairing Your Relationship on Your Own
Published in Paperback by Hartley & Marks Publishers (August, 1996)
Author: Phil Deluca

really worked-fast
this book gave me ideas for changing my own behavior in ways that were not only healthy for me, but also resulted in my partner making changes that made our relationship much more satisfying to both of us. The changes it reccomends were not comfortable for me to make, but Deluca's book gave me the willingness to do things differently. If, like me, you are always trying to get your partner to give you more (more time, more attention, more love) this is the book for you.

An excellent help for Distancer-Pursuer marriages
This book was very helpful in helping me to understand what was happening in my marriage, and of all those read would have been the most likely to save it had not the marriage been doomed. It is one of the few to address the difficult concept of Distancer-Pursuer pattern in relationships in a non-sexist manner and the only one to suggest concrete solutions. It has many self tests and exercises which help apply the book to your own personal situation.

Long overdue!
I'm glad to see a book on this subject reach the market. Mr Russell has done an excellent job presenting material that is often surrounded with obscure language in a concise and presentable fashion. The photo's of the Tai Chi teacher T.T. Liang are excellent and the chapters on "Sung" and his delineation of the "the subtle skills" was especially useful. Looking forward to seeing more on Tai Chi from this author!

An excellent book from a worthy lineage
This book documents an original sequence developed by the excellent Tai Chi (Tai Ji Quan) teacher T. T. Liang, and conveyed by his senior student Jonathan Russell, a distinguished teacher in his own right.

This form was devised by Master Liang to convey many reciprocal and practical aspects of Tai Chi principles which are more implicit in the various solo forms.

In addition to a precise outlining of the two person dance form, there are valuable passages about aspects of Tai Chi cultivation and practice gleaned from the experience of the teachers Russell, Liang, and their tradition.

This is a fine book both for general Tai Chi Study and for those wishing to view a unique form related to Yang style (and Chen Man Ching) Tai Chi lineage.

True Northwest Architecture
This book represents an extrodianry environmental focus for design. The houses created by the Miller/Hull Partnership display architecture originality combined with a keen knowledge of the northwest. Each house is created in harmony with it's surrounding environment--a beautiful representation of both art and archecture.

Please note the customer review entitled, "Architecture Reference Book," does not reflect the correct designer. The architects represented in this book are David Miller, Bob Hull, Norm Strong, and other very talented designers from the Miller/Hull Partnership.

Architecture Reference Book
The book reviews ten houses designed by Christian De Groote which are built in Chile round about 1988 to 1991. All the houses are contemporary and there are good photos of the houses. There is not much explination or description, however this is nor really expected of an Architecture book, since Architecture is more of a view and see experience. I thought that Christian in his designs had many great ideas. Perhaps he is not the most famous designer but I liked his designs very much and hope to incorporate some of the design ideas in the house I am building.
