Not exactly cutting edge ...
Pentagram's Compendium is, as far as I'm concerned, not a very exciting book. There is a sense of déjà vu all over the place. There are some happy exceptions, but generally it's the kind of design that has been around for at least 10 years. There is a lot which is clever, witty and beautiful in the conventional sense, but all too often the design collapses under its own weight. There is so little excitement! Compare this to Bruce Mau's Life Style which is an achievement in a different league. I think Mau has his finger on the pulse of our age. He wrestles heroically with the contradictions and paradoxes of his work and his book vibrates with these worries and tensions. The Pentagram book is much more suave. This is not surprising given that the collective was founded in the early seventies by a bunch of 30-plus designers. The most interesting aspect of their approach has nothing to do with their design: it's their loosely coupled organisation with seventeen partners working in three different cities that has managed to thrive over three decades. I assume that many of the corporate dinosaurs of today will continue to call on Pentagram's undoubtedly solid design expertise. But the vicissitudes of the cybereconomy demand a more vicious, tormented and volatile kind of design. For that I would revert to Mau.

Reliable Partners : How Democracies Have Made a Separate Peace
Published in Hardcover by Princeton Univ Pr (02 July, 2003)
Author: Charles Lipson
Amazon base price: $32.50

A very incomplete, off-base and misleading view
Although Lipson rightfully points out that democratic institutions are more easily observed, this in no way explains why they are reliable partners. A more profound question would be why don't democractic governments, once the government has changed, fully reverse policies of predecessors (whether foreign or domestic). For example, a woman's right to vote, income tax, social security, anti-trust laws, etc. The answer lies much more in the social character of democratic societies, as first explained in the profound work, Toqueville's Democracy in America. In general, the social character of democratic countries is one that leans towards social progress, equality, the rule of law, keeping your word, etc. Lipson entirely over-looks the character of democratic societies that make them reliable partners for both foreign countries and their own citizens.

Disturbed Woman
I could not finish this book since it was obvious that the main character Robyn needed some intense psychological therapy. I can understand her being hurt and deeply embarrassed by the cruel rejection she received at Clay's hands at the tender age of sixteen. However, it was just a kiss and some heavy petting - just one incident. To hang on to the hurt for twelve years is very unhealthy to say the least! And to have Robyn hang on to anger and hurt for almost the entire book is just plain boring and frustrating for the reader. Do yourself a favor and skip this book.

Sleeping Partners
I would not recommend paying the full price for this book. Robyn harbored ill feelings toward Clay because he didn't want to kiss and take advantage of a sixteen-year-old girl when he was 23 years old. So, up until the age of 28, Robyn remained the scorned victim and held on to angry feelings until close to the end of the book. I just couldn't believe someone being 28 yrs. old would carry on the way she did. And towards the end she realizes that Clay is her one soul mate and loves him. Why? She showed no feelings of love and caring for him throughout almost the entire book. Maybe lust, but that's it. Not one of Brooks better books.

A 16-year-old reader
Labor room companions can use this book as a childbirth class refresher course during the nine month and as a bedside manual that clearly spells out "what to do when." Jones, a leading childbirth educator, covers every potentially troublesome situation that may arise. A must-have book, if only for the emergancy delivery instructions.

Offers very little usable content.
I did not find this E-doc to be at all helpful. It does no more than espouse team approach; it offers only generalities. I downloaded and printed this and was dissapointed. It even used a ridiculous amount of ink to print.

Yikes, I'd rather call my mother for marital advice.
I understand that it's difficult to educate a wide audience on sustaining fulfilling, exciting, monogamous relationships, but I found Patricia Love's cassette a hodge-podge of trite and bossy psycho-babble replete with advice exactly COUNTER to the relationship authors I admire the most.

If you are someone who likes to make informed decisions based on a pool of various and unbiased facts, these cassettes probably aren't for you. If, however, you like being told what's what in that authoritative tone your high school gym teacher was so fond of, then click that "buy" button now.

Although I appreciate the convenience of cassette tapes, I found myself further distracted from the content by Patricia Love's voice. She spoke in a tone that wasn't quite whiny and annoying, but not quite pleasant; consider reading the book if you're inclined to buy Love's work-- which will also probably save you from her poorly delivered attempts at humor.

This product meets my three-strikes rule: didn't like the content, didn't like the delivery, didn't like the author. Boo.

not worth the price
For the price ... - this is a 7 page report with no more information than can be gathered by doing a quick search on PRM on the web for Free.
Looks like the author has some good insight - but 7 pages for over $ ? I am very disappointed- I can't afford to make mistakes kike this again- the number of pages should be clearly marked on the page describing the "book"
Good info- but way overpriced to say the least.
