Gun Dogs is OK
The book was well written, but just did not meet my expectations. Wiht a new Brittany, and no experience training a gun dog, I was looking for more nuts and bolts. I was halfway through the book before we got to training. It was all about breeds, picking a puppy and a name, and selecting a collar and leash.

The whistle and hand signals section is helpful. The forced fetching instruction is good, and the training with pigeons is informative.

I only wish there was more step-by-step training guidelines "for dummies."

Invaluable and truly "user friendly"
Gun Dogs: Playful Pup To Hunting Partner by master hunter and dog trainer John R. Falk is specifically written for anyone wanting to hunt with a canine companion, whether they are novice hunters and first-time dog owners or seasoned dog hunters with previous field-hunting experience. Superbly enhanced throughout with black and white photography, Gun Dogs comprehensively covers choosing a puppy (and naming it), the different breeds of dogs as the relate to hunting, the best training tools and equipment, selected a capable veterinarian, the basics of nonverbal communication, obedience training, and beginning field training. The debut title in the new Voyageur Press "Master Training Series" for training dogs, Gun Dogs is an invaluable and truly "user friendly" instructional reference for anyone wanting to hunt with dogs.

All Hat, No Cattle
That's what we say in Texas about someone who is full of flash and style, while light on the substance. An apt description of this edoc.

The book has an attractive design and the layout is interesting. The content, however, leaves something to be desired. The text is a self-congratulatory rant about how this ad agency (excuse me, provider of "high performance cross-media marketing service programs")opted to sell their white papers as Amazon edocs. Then, they chose to create this edoc in the hope of reaching the #1 spot on the edoc bestseller list. Their strategy was to give it a provocative title and price it low.

There is no how-to here, even to be forcibly extracted from the telling of their experiences. I'm giving three stars to this edoc for the design. All hat, no cattle.

Worth every penny
Great read!
Tom Simons has too much time on his hands.
Bravo.

Very Enjoyable Early Nora Roberts
Fast-paced mystery romance about two rival newspaper reporters forced to work together on a murder case in Louisiana. Matthew Bates went to college with Laurel Armand's brother and fell in love with her picture. He accepts a job in New Orleans, hoping to get to know her and is assigned to work the same story as her.
Laurel is annoyed at having to share credit for the story and thinks that "yankee" Matthew is not her type. Of course, she soon learns otherwise and they solve the mystery together.
Excerpt from the back of the book:
"Long before he met her, Matthew Bates loved Laurel Armand. Working with her brought both pleasure and pain, because the sexy Southern belle kept him at a professional distance. Then the rival reporters were thrown together on a case of murder and madness-where much more than love was at stake."

I greatly enjoyed this book!!!!!
Nora Roberts again tells an excellant story. The characters were well thought out and the plot was great.

Interesting view of command relationships
As the author explains in the first section of this book, it is based on a course that he taught at the Army War College about command relationships in the Civil War. Overall, it is an interesting view into the lives, relationships, and correspondance between certain key leaders of the Civil War (Lee and Jackson, Lincoln and McClellan, Grant and Sherman to name a few). Mr. Glatthaar's research and analysis of these relationships is excellent and detailed. For instance, he explains why the relationship between Lincoln and McClellan was so strained (to include an appendix looking at McClellan's personality quirks in modern terms). Or why Jackson and Lee worked so well together, despite a very limited personal friendship.

Simply put, I learned things from this book that I have not found in other places. One warning: I agree with another reviewer that this book is not for people who are not very familiar with the Civil War. The original course was taught to Senior Army leaders (Colonels) and civilians, so it was geared towards students who understand strategy and tactics. Having said that, I highly recommend this book to any Civil War student, of "Buff" who is interested in learning more about the key leaders who shaped the events of the war, and helped determine its outcome. If you do read it, take a look at the notes and bibliography section. In it, the author gives his recommendations for other books to use for additional info.

Very good intricate read.
This book is very good, but probably not a good read if you are a novice reader about the Civil War. You have to have knowledge of the war and know the background of these generals in order to enjoy this book. If you do....it is very good and interesting.

Romantic Times Review
THIS IS by LISA GARDNER writing as Alicia Scott not the name in the Amazon listing.

Town treasurer Josie Reynolds's life hasn't been the same since the black-out. The death that night of her closest friend is bringing back nightmares she thought she'd banished. Detective Jack Stryker is investigating and knows she's keeping secrets, but can't help wanting to help. With a good back story and interesting characters, PARTNERS IN CRIME (4.5) by Alicia Scott, is an exciting, fast-paced story.

Pretty good for a series...
I liked the heroine and could relate to her. However, I think she was a littly hasty in forgiving her hero after he accuses her of murder! All in all, a good story.

Partners with the Sun
This is a fairly extensive study of photographers working in the State of South Carolina during the period 1840-1940. The work will appeal to readers interested in the local history of South Carolina and the early history of photography in the South. It will also appeal to those studying the role of southern photography during the Civil War. The book is illustrated with numerous photographs taken from the collection of the author and other sources. These include carte de visites, cabinet cards, and stereo views. Unfortunately, the photographs are not full-page and the print quality is somewhat limited. As such, it may not satisfy readers who are looking for a "fine-art" monograph. In addition, although the work is well-documented, organized, and concise, it reads more like an academic thesis rather than a work of non-fiction. Partners with the Sun is not light reading. It is, however, an essential source of material for serious students of the history of photography.

Partners with the Sun: S.C. Photographers, 1840-1940
This is a well-researched, well-written book that contains a large amount of information about South Carolina's early daguerrotypists and photographers. A multitude of pictures, many representing archival material, illustrate the skills of these early artists of photography. The author also included letters and other biographical material revealing personal information about the sitters or photographers. Some of this material will be useful to those interested in genealogy, but to the rest of us it is a very readable and informative book, nicely printed and appointed.

Full of Great Thoughts.....But to read Aloud?
The discussions and prayers contained in this book are centered on various topics and are thoughtful, honest, and full of love. There is a "word before you begin" page that indicates that the book is intended to be read aloud with a friend. However, the book would be difficult for me to use in that way when praying with a friend, because of the conversational nature. One author clearly indicates that she views even her dialog with her friend as prayer. However, it seems awkward for me to incorporate another person's conversational prayer into my own shared prayer time. It is a book that I would prefer to use to prepare myself for shared prayer time - not used during it.

There are wonderful gems of prayer in this book that can be used to improve anyone's prayer life. While the prayers are labeled under situational headings, I found many to be applicable to diverse situations and settings. To have a life long prayer friend as reflected in this book is truly a blessing - and wonderful to share in.

lovely!
This collection of suggestions for praying with a friend and sample prayers is sensitive and beautifully written. Many of the topics speak to my own circumstances, and I find great encouragement in the "mentoring" of these saintly friends.

SYT #1
WANTED: PERFECT PARTNER - Debbie Macomber

Single mom Meg Remington and her teenage daughter begin a
conversation. Daughter says nervously: "Uh, Mom, maybe this
would be a good time to tell you about Steve." Meg says
absently: "Who?"
Daughter says quickly: "Ummm, Steve--your date for tonight
--the man I fixed you up with through a personal ad. Wanna
see his picture? He's a total hunk! Mom, is something wrong?
He'll be here any minute. You're not wearing that, are you?"

Meg gasps. The doorbell rings...

A good read.
I enjoyed this book, I just hated the daughter in this book because she was too much into her mothers business. I can't give this a 5, but a 4 is what I think it is. Good book if you have nothing to do. I recommend it.

An absorbing quick-read on life's priorities
I was given this book on a gruelling bike trip with my husband. Reading this book on the trip made me realize what my priorities in life are and how I can improve my relationships. It is a funny but not whimsical read and very straightforward without being heavy-handed. I thoroughly enjoyed the book.

Feel good about your body
My previous experience with the Chic Simple range was the clothing books, with the clothing set out against a plain white background. This is not the case with this book. This is a sumptious exploration of the human body, organised in neat sections as in the other books. Will you learn anything you didn't know before. Probably not. Will you finish the book feeling good about the body within which you live. You probably will. If you are looking for a book to tell you how to change your body, this is probably not for you, but otherwise it is a worthwhile endeavour
