Excellent Guide For Channel Managers
As a Channel (agent) Manager for a CLEC telecomm company I was led to "Revenue Rocket" by VARbusiness Magazine's excerpts of this book that outline "10 Commonly Made Mistakes" in typing and segmenting channels. The key evidently, and thanks to Mr. Addison the author for this, is to properly recognize the 4 types of channel partners and manage the relationship with them differently.

I was not doing this and the book and strategies detailed have helped me focus on seeing each partner tpye differently, especially through their training requirements, and coaching them to a common performance sales parameter.

This is already leading to my better "coverage" of these partners, quicker and stronger callbacks, and better results from RFP's and proposals.

Thank you, John Addison.

Partnering Execution Guide
Mr. Addison provides a manual for successful channel management based on proven methods. I used this book as a model to prepare for and win job interviews, and now I am using it to grow an effective channel model for my organization.
Mr. Addison delivers valuable practical approaches laced with refreshing humor. I refer to Revenue Rocket often to help me focus for effective execution. The execute actions and sales actions,at the end of each chapter, are very practical and provide a formula for success.

Channel Segmentation and Balance for Profit, April 3, 2003
John Addison's "Revenue Rocket" provides significant value and insight to sales and marketing executives addressing "channel segmentation and balance." Which sales channels best serve your company's market focus? Who should become a partner? How do partners become more successful selling your products? What are the "do's" and "don'ts" of effective channel management?

In today's economy, it is a "buyer's market." Answers to these questions are critical to any company's profitability and long-term growth. In "Revenue Rocket," you will find clear examples, best practices, and actionable suggestions to strike the required balance in your distribution channels, direct sales and strategic partners. This book is full of practical advice about how to achieve market share growth and increase revenue, while managing cost of sales. Realize greater profits by nurturing the loyalty and confidence of your partners.

SICK SICK SICK, WONDERFULLY SICK!
This book is beyond sick and distrubing (especially the detailed descriptions of the main character's post mortem [nec]romances). It is also one of the funniest, sharpest, wittiest books I have ever read. Love him or hate him, the main character's observation of the living is just as detailed and on the money as those of the dead. This book is not for the week-stomached. If you like the dark humor of "Six Feet Under", you'll dig this novel. Cannot recommend it enough!

"Silent Partners": Eccentrically Hilarious Comedy
Don't let the cover of this book fool you! This COMEDIC novel is the "bizarrest-of-the-bizarre" and is the only book I have ever read that has actually made me LAUGH OUTLOUD. With Warren Piece (pun intended) as the Protagonist, "Silent Partners" is a guaranteed escape from the fast-paced world of our everyday life. Put your nose in it and read it.

From a civilized and contented reader!
It is difficult to describe all the reasons one might be taken in by this story about necrophilia, but it is a wonderful read indeed. Insightful and hilarious, creepy and serious all at the same time. The protagonist, Warren Piece (pun intended, like many of the other names, puns and pranks in this book), pushes and pulls the reader in his quest for loving the dead. Imagine a cross between Ignatius O'Reilly from Confederacy of the Dunces, Ben Flesh from The Franchiser, a dash of Dorothy Parker and a frolic through Freud's Civilization and Its Discontents. I love this book!

allow the healing to begin
reading this book not only allows for the healing to take place but helps the sugnificant other in your life to understand what you are going through. Very well put together.

A Great Resource for Partners of Survivors!
This book has everything you need to know, and is written in a style that makes you feel like you're sitting in the living room with a good buddy who just happens to have gone through the same thing you're going through. This is an outstanding resource, and should be on every partner of a survivor's shelf.

healing from sexual abuse
The book shocked me when I started reading it. It was as if I was reading about myself through the whole book. One of the chapters that covered suicide thoughts made me feel like I was not alone. Reading this book gave myself and my husband a better understanding of what to expect when healing from sexual abuse.
I can't say enough about this book. It's not only well written and very easy to understand but it is written by someone who has been through the healing process with his partner.
Thumbs up on this one!

The only book that can really help finding a mate for life!
This book is a treasure...it will actually do what it says...find the perfect mate....it did it for me..it will do it for you!

I highly recommend this book -- superb.
After years of fruitless dating, constantly yearning for that special someone, a friend recommended that I read this book. My initial reaction was Numerology, that's a bunch of bunk!!! But after reading it, and employing the Science taught in the book, I found my "Perfect Soulmate" within months. Thank you David Smith!!!

I didn't believe it worked until I tryed it on my friends!
When I bought this book, I thought, "Yea, sure... I'll find out everything I need to know about a person by the date and year that they were born...that's crazy." And then I read the book. It caught my interest, so I TESTED it... on over 25 close friends and family, just for "fun". To my absolute shock, each and every number fit with those people's personality, work ethics, family beliefs, how they feel about love, and just what they were all about in general... Absolutely amazing!

You must get this book. It's a quick read, and it's fun. You can get alot of information on a person from this book, even if they don't want you have it!!

One of the best time travel books ever!
I just loved this book. I ordered it off the internet and I don't regret it. I am a Back to the Future fan and just enjoyed seeing all of those injokes. I hope she makes another book soon!

A Boy With Time On His Side and a Girl Out Of Time-Literally
What happens when a teenage boy invents a time machine and accidentally transports a 15-year-old girl through time from 1850 to his present time in 2005? Author Kristen Sheley provides the answer to this question in her first novel called "No Time Like the Present." The story follows the adventures of Sam Foster and Meg Clayton, whose chance meeting through the use of a time machine, invented by Sam, sets the stage for the first of many time travelling adventures planned by Sheley for her "Partners in Time Series."

Sheley does a wonderful job in the telling of this story of two teens from different time periods who wish for larger-than-life adventures only to find more excitement than they bargained for. Both Sam and Meg narrate the story in alternating chapters, allowing the reader to see both of the characters' perspectives. Sheley is right on the money with Meg's reaction to her sudden appearance in 2005. And the character of Sam, who dreams of becoming a successful scientist, is a bright, enthusiastic, not-so-typical teen that finds himself in a precarious circumstance. Sheley takes time to introduce the characters and their reactions to their plight, and rightly so. This is the first in a series of books for young adults planned by Sheley called the "Partners in Time Series," which will continue the adventures of Sam and Meg as they travel through time.

Sheley will attract many readers to this series, because of the time travel theme. Time travel seems to appeal to all ages and "No Time Like the Present" will tickle the proverbial taste buds of those who enjoy the flavor of a good time travel-related story. Sheley's love of time travel began with her interest in the "Back to the Future" movie trilogy, in which Marty McFly and "Doc" Emmett L. Brown take many adventures through time. Her novel even utilizes various names, phrases, and references from the trilogy, right down to "The Ripple Effect" aspect of time travel -so well known among fans of "Back to the Future." Her novel pays homage to the trilogy through these references.

The novel gets off to somewhat of a slow start - Meg doesn't even leave the vicinity of Sam's house until almost a third of the way into the story. But this is necessary to give Meg time to get used to her immediate surroundings before she and Sam venture out into the vast, complicated world of the 21st century. And Sheley gives the reader plenty to chew on in the meantime. The meat of the story occurs during the last 9 chapters of this 23-chapter novel. But the setup during the first 14 chapters is needed to set the tone, introduce the characters, and build the story to its dual-climactic ending - an ending in which readers will find they won't be disappointed. Readers will ultimately find themselves wanting to know more about Sam and Meg - and Sheley plans on giving it to them.

The "Partners in Time Series" from which Kristen Sheley says she expects to turn out about one novel per year will no doubt yield many exciting time travel adventures by Sam Foster and Meg Clayton. Sheley's love for the art of writing, combined with her love of time travel stories, truly stands out in "No Time Like the Present" and she is sure to delight readers with her brand of storytelling for many years into the future.

A fun read!
I have been corresponding, via the Internet, on and off, with Kristen Sheley for some time now. It's great to see her first novel get published. Besides a few gripes I had with the abrupt ending and the overabundance of the distracting BACK TO THE FUTURE references, I really like it. The characters were developed well, there were some themes that I could relate to, and the ideas of time travel were clever. I could relate to Meg feeling uncomfortable in the future (Sam's present) but not wanting to leave at the end. It reminded me of being at camp for the first time. I really want to follow more adventures of Sam and Meg. I look forward to the next title in this series!

Trusted Partners: How Companies Build Mutual Trust and Win Together
Published in Hardcover by Free Press (08 March, 2000)
Author: Jordan D. Lewis
Amazon base price: $7.99
List price: $30.00 (that's 73% off!)
Jordan D. Lewis contends that creative collaboration between independent entities is the route to success in our increasingly complex global marketplace. However, he says these collaborations can be initiated properly only when both sides truly trust one another. After helping corporations worldwide implement such alliances for more than three decades, he explicitly shows in Trusted Partners how leading companies go about it. Simultaneously, he offers a road map for readers who also hope to negotiate this potentially rewarding but always slippery slope. Lewis looks first at the nature of trust, then describes ways to build it between internal factions, allies, and even competitors. He insists clear identification of "a single purpose" is key--for instance, as Mobil and British Petroleum did before forging a successful European joint venture using only BP's brand name (both firms accepted this, he notes, because they knew it would stem market-share erosion at each company). Conversely, he reveals how IBM and Sears failed to adequately align their organizations and purposes before uniting to form the ill-fated Prodigy online service. A final section offers rules for moving negotiations from preliminary discussions to agreement; guidelines for sharing benefits, costs, and risks; and other process-aiding tools. --Howard Rothman

AN EXHAUSTIVE COMPILATION OF IDEAS
Brilliantly written, "Trusted Partners: How Companies Build Mutual Trust and Win Together" contains all the essential directives for building, sustaining, and harnessing the succulent fruits of a harmonic coalition.
This 319-paged book is an exhaustive compilation of both ideas and pieces of advice. Its logical arrangement ensured that all those crucial information remain dynamic. This is an important text for anyone who is into (or tends to go into) any form of corporate alliance or similar association.
Every important ingredient required for building, improving, and nourishing partnerships is in this book. Most of them were illustrated with examples.
This is a sound Management book. It is all about winning. Almost perfect! But I did wish that it provided clues on how to constructively repair a partnership that has been damaged by egoistic tendencies.

New Territory
Lewis has ventured into governance territory where few have trod--for example, asking how to structure boards of various types of alliances. To my knowledge, no other book has this type of material, which makes this book an excellent choice for corporate directors. (I am familiar with this audience, because I am the Editor-in-Chief of Director's Monthly, the official newsletter of the National Association of Corporate Directors, Washington, DC).

Practical and Profitable Wisdom
The basic premise is obvious: There can be no solid"partnerships" without trust. As the subtitle indicates, Lewisexplains "how companies build mutual trust and win together." It is imperative that individuals be worthy of trust. They must earn it and then sustain it with behavior based on core values. We all know that values derive from character (or the lack thereof), that values determine attitudes (both negative and positive), and that such attitudes are revealed by behavior.

My guess is that those in greatest need of this book will encounter the greatest difficulty when attempting to follow Lewis' suggestions. "Trust is at the heart of the knowledge economy....Rather than being a matter of blind faith, trust must be cone step at a time. Further, building trust between organizations is all-encompassing. It involves their people, politics, priorities, cultures, and structures." Organizations become untrustworthy when those within those organizations are untrustworthy. Over the years, all of us have been victimized by fraudulent claims, intentional misrepresentations, corrupt "politics", "a hidden agenda", broken promises, etc. If trust is to be built between organizations, there must be interpersonal as well as intrapersonal relationships based on trustworthiness.

Lewis's book is divided into three parts: Trust Leads to High Performance, Alliances with Key Partner, and Tools for Trust: A Guide for Practitioners. He follows a step-by-step process within each part, providing an abundance of observations, suggestions, and caveats. Who will derive the greatest value from this book? Here are my nominees:

1. Decision-makers who have the authority (not simply the responsibility) for their organization's cultural transformation.

2. Owners/CEOs of start-ups who are committed to building trust as well as sales and profits.

3. Those involved in M&A initiatives whose due diligence includes evaluation of cultural capital as well as material assets.

One of the book's most valuable sections (Chapter VII in the Third Part) summarizes "actions that establish trust-building habits." Note the use of the word "habit." Lewis is quite correct when insisting that time and effort are required to build and then sustain trust. Conversely, trust can be quickly compromised by a single act betrayal.

In this final section, the "trust-building habits" are classified as follows: Trust Conditions; Recruiting, Training, and Rewards; Management Behavior; and Other Activities. Once you have read the book, selected what is most appropriate to your own organization, and then begun the difficult task of implementation, it would be a good idea to re-read Chapter VII in the Third Part. The counsel Lewis provide will help you formulate your own tasks and objectives within the framework of the eight trust conditions and related practices.

If those within your organization are unwilling and/or unable to make a sincere and steadfast commitment to building and then sustaining trust, find another organization. And consider this fact: The companies which dominate their respective industries are the same companies which are rated the best companies to work for. Coincidence? I don't think so...and neither does Lewis.

Fantastic audio of Starr's report
Kenneth Starr's report is brought to life by this credible audio oif the details of his report. The narrators made this tape very easy to listen to. Both the narrator and Monica made listening to this tape very enjoyable and the lengthy diction was easily comprehended. The quotes that were directly read by Monica gave the tape an interesating angle to the story and the actual details of the report.Thisd was a great follow up to volume one. It was very easy to follow and passed the time driving in the car. I can't wait for more of the materials on this case to come out on audio. This is a must buy for anyone interested in history!

Melons for the Passionate Grower

Your local market probably carries only honeydew, cantaloupe, and watermelon, but it's the heirloom melons of the world that contain both remarkable succulence and the critical germ plasm that may ward off future plant diseases. Amy Goldman's tribute to the magnificent family of melons, Melons for the Passionate Grower is both a celebration of the rich gifts of these fruits and a cautionary tale of how many of these treats nearly went extinct.

Before you get too caught up in the gorgeous photos and fascinating histories of these gems, note the seed company list at the end of the book--you can try to grow all the plants you read about. The introductory section includes detailed instructions on hand pollination, ripening, and a few recipes like watermelon salad with onion, pepper, oil, and vinegar in addition to the sweet melon.

The pages that fall in the middle are mini temples devoted to individual melons. Often romantic histories are included next to the glossy photos--who can resist tales of the Hungarian noble who wrapped her beloved sweet melons in her furs? With varieties like the slender, crunchy Snake and the astonishingly sweet Bidwell Casaba, learning about these glorious fruits will keep you fascinated for the rest of your gardening days. --Jill Lightner

3 1/2 stars, very interesting but could be better
I bought the book in hopes of learning about various hard to find melons. This book has an amazing variety of melons but I fond it to be rather light on the amount of information provided to the inexperienced new grower.
You get several pages of tips on growing and harvesting (I don't think it's quite detailed enough for the novice), a page on saving seeds, two on hand pollination (these were interesting), and a couple of pages of recipes to use your harvest in.
The main part of the book is sort of art book like to me with a few pages of type histries and several pages of artistic photos of various melons. Each of the melon pictures is identified as figure#1-100, you'll find a corresponding section in the back of the book giving info on size, weight and so on. At the end of the book there's a source listing for places to get the seeds of some, not all, of what is shown in the book.

GREAT BOOK
if your into melons this book is well worth the money, the pictures or beautiful and the information is very informative but
to the point.

Every kind of melon under the sun--and then some!
The melons covered in the book range from the true cantaloupe to muskmelons (what Americans call cantaloupe) to casabas to Asian melons (not sweet like those to which Americans are accustomed) to those that aren't tasty (but are valued for other reasons) to every color flesh and seed, size and shape of watermelon under the sun!

How about a melon to scent a person or a room, a melon to stand in for a cucumber in a salad (bitterfree, crisper, and will set fruit all summer long), a melon that looks for all the world like a winter squash, a bi-colored-flesh watermelon, or a watermelon whose skin turns a bright yellow when it is ripe?

These are the Queen Anne's pocket melon or the D'Alger melon, the Snake melons, the Prescott Fond Blanc melon, the Colorado Striped Tarahumara watermelon, and the Golden Midget watermelon.

Don't have room to grow your own melons? Then the pages about how to select a melon, even at market, will be invaluable--already I have been able to improve my chances of coming home with a riper melon from the store.

I have one tiny complaint about the content of the book: there are several varieties that are listed with "Seed Source: None". I assume these melons that are not available from commercial seed sources are available among the Seed Savers Exchange organization members, but that is never mentioned.

My other complaint about the book is technical: it's not what most of us would consider a "hardback". It has a firm cover, but it's not a hardback in the traditional textbook sense.

All in all, a very lovely book, one that makes you wish you had 10 acres in which to just grow melons. It has been an engrossing read and re-read, an indispensable book in planning our future forays into melon-growing.
