The Sun Upon the Lake is Low
I absolutely love this CD.

My son (who is now two and half) and I have been listening to it every evening during wind down time for the last two years (or at least as many songs as it takes him to wind down). I am still moved by the songs, particularly "Child of Mine" by Bill Staines.

Survivors and Partners: Healing the Relationships of Sexual Abuse Survivors
Published in Paperback by Heron Hill Pub (October, 1991)
Author: Paul A. Hansen

One of the best of the books for partners of survivors
The strength of this book for me was in its ability to describe all the important aspects of the experience of being the partner of a survivor of childhood sexual abuse. It did so while avoiding some of the more speculative material that is sometimes encountered in this category of books. The author is unusually qualified to understand his material, being both the partner of a survivor, and then (as he discovered later in his journey) as a survivor himself. A very powerful perspective.

In their quest to become the next First Couple, Bob and Elizabeth Dole have written the story of their lives, from his childhood during the Depression to his long-seated political career (with an emphasis on his military service), from her days in the Harvard Law School to her presidency of the Red Cross (with an emphasis on her scrutiny of the proper role of a First Lady). This book is particularly notable because Mr. Dole seems to have finally discovered the first person!

A True American Journey
This is an incredible book co-authored by Bob and Elizabeth Dole. The book is very honest and heartwarming because they each get a chance to tell their side of the story. I know that Mr. Dole has a hard time when it comes to talking about his injury during World War II and in the book, he describes what happened in Italy in 1945 so vividly that I thought I was watching the whole thing happen all over again while I was reading this book. I admires Mrs. Dole for being a trail-blazer as one of the few women to graduate from Harvard Law School the the mid 1960's when women were expected to go to school and learn how to be homemakers and they were expected to settle down, get married, and raise a family. Instead of following the conventional rules, Mrs. Dole goes out and overcomes many obstacles. I admire the Doles for sharing their story. I brought this book in the summer of 1996, just a few weeks before the Republican Convention and after reading this book, I realized that this is a side of Bob and Elizabeth Dole that the media does not show. The book was well worth it!

A Gifted Poet You Are . . .
Gwendolyn Brooks delivers an exceptional volume once again, and she speaks to the young(er) poets who have so much to share with the world. Brooks' vision for fledgling poets is encouraging and full of hope. This is a wonderful volume full of direction and inspiration for the poet within.

A Great Look at Valuations & VC Investments
This book features 10 different "essays" on how each individual values a company, decides whether to make an investment, and where opportunity is in the marketplace. This is a great read for everyone from a novice entrepreneur to an experienced venture capitalist - I can guarantee you will take something of value away from the book (I was a VC for 12 years at Kleiner Perkins).

When You Are the Partner of a Rape or Incest Survivor: A Workbook for You
Published in Paperback by Resource Publications (March, 1996)
Author: Robert Barry Levine
Amazon base price: $14.95
Used price: $10.95
Average review score:

A Superb Resource for Partners of Survivors
Levine has managed to write a book that is enlightening and helpful for the partner of a rape or incest survivor. Most literature on this subject is authored by survivors, and offers insight into the healing process of the victim, and how as a partner we can support them through it. While an understanding of the survivor's feelings and difficulties is invaluable, I don't want to feel like I'm only a tool in my wife's healing process. As a partner I have encountered difficulties of my own, and through testimonies of other victims, this book validated many of my own feelings, and suggested exercises to help my wife AND myself cope. I found that the writing exercises in the workbook helped me gain insight into my emotions, and allowed me to absorb and retain the advice of the interviewed partners far more effectively than reading alone. This book also goes into the bedroom, providing exercises for building a safe and loving environment for intimate contact. This subject is often ignored, and I was happy to see it covered here.

.....what a woman and her children go through and feel in living with the chaos, confusion, hurt, frustration and sadness that are part of an alcoholic marriage. It made me feel much better and is easily the most accurate and powerful book I have read on the subject. I checked a copy out of my library over & over for a whole year and finally decided to buy a copy through Amazon! Every woman struggling in an alcoholic marriage NEEDS this book.
