Excellent advice for the newly minted lawyer.I bought this short but dense book when I was in my third year of law school (3.5 years ago), and I have found its advice to be extremely useful. It is aimed at the "typical" associate in the "typical" law firm, meaning one that draws most of its business from the surrounding community. Nevertheless, much of what the book has to offer will be valuable for any new lawyer in any type of practice (including non-profit and government work). The author not only gives homely advice (e.g., read the Wall Street Journal every day) but also helps you see the big picture -- long-term relationships with clients, continual self-education, giving back to the community, etc. He also provides an excellent list of questions you should ask prospective employers (for those who are lucky enough to read this book before they have a job), plus helpful (and ambitious) to-do lists for each year that you are in practice as an associate. This book will help you succeed in your law firm (if that is your workplace), and, more important, it will make you a better lawyer.

Extraordinary. Insightful. Extremely practical.I highly recommend this book. It is full of practical ways to "jam the circuits" of human relationship patterns that are not working. That is, they offer unusual methods to improve existing habitual patterns. The book is well written and straightforward. They do not exaggerate their claims, and they offer insightful and thought-provoking strategies that are surprisingly practical, and often quite original.

billw@ireadfaces.comThis is one of the finest books available on the changes professional salespeople need to make in today's selling climate. Practical. Informative. Thought-provoking. Imaginative. Bob's experience in sales highlights the anecdotes and brings them to life. Very highly recommended.

A colorful view of rainforest life"Partners and Parents," by Michael Chinery, is a children's book about the animals of the rainforest. The book focuses on animal parenting and social organization. Animals covered include the glasswing butterfly, sloth, scorpion, giant millipede, Wilson's bird of paradise, bats, gorillas, and more. The main text is accompanied by a glossary, an index, a map showing the world's main rainforest areas, and a list of Web links and addresses for conservation organizations.
I really liked the stunning, full-color photos in this book. Some of the best images include a fight between two male strawberry poison-arrow frogs; a "writhing ball" of anacondas; the intricately woven nest of a white-throated spoonbill; and a multicolored male knobbed hornbill. A great book for young animal lovers.

LOL and all that jazzShe's plain and mousy, he's a suave lawyer but she thinks he's an arsonist...... The deception is hilarious and so is their relationship as the hero and heroine go undercover time and time again. Keep an eye out for the comment on loons - for some reason that had me laughing out loud.

An emotional story told with sensitivity and graceI've had this book for a while and just got around to reading it. I should not have waited so long! This story has a truly wrenching conflict and great realism in its depiction of the heroine. I love this author's writing style. Thumbs way up!

Clarion Call to the Church's "Silent Partners"Very readable, cogent and persuasive call to pastors, denominational leaders, lay leaders and members to partner together in ministry. The case is powerfully made for the WHOLE church to take the WHOLE gospel to the WHOLE world. Pastors were never raised up by God to be personal chaplains for lay people, but more like head coaches, trainers, equippers and division commanders to recruit, build up and deploy God's people into the field where real ministry takes place: outreach, community involvement, mercy ministries, cultural change agents, etc. The church rises and falls on leadership - and followership. Both are equal partners in the task God has called His church to do, and both need to be fully and cooperatively (not competitively or mutually exclusively) involved. A great tool for pastors to review the Biblical perspective and for lay leaders/members to be mobilized and encouraged.
