The Paper Ace - a superior book
I have never read a better book about building paper airplanes and how they work. Mr. Vollheim does not just teach you to build his planes. He teaches you aerodynamic design so you can use it in your own planes and design new ones yourself. Thank You Mr. Vollheim!

Outstanding AND Easy
My 5-year old son checked this book out from our local library. My initial thought was ... oh great another craft that will take up MY time and I'll have to invest money in tons of stuff just to make one. I was wrong. The masks were simple to make, took just a few minutes and I already had everything needed to make one. My son could do the majority of the cutting AND the measuring!!! Best of all, they turned out soooooo cool that even my 9-year old made some of the masks for a cub scout project.

An alternative to Origami Animals
Skill Level: Simple to Intermediate

This is not a book on origami animals but it is definitely on making paper animals. Look at the picture on the cover of the book and you will know which of the 8 animals are. The rest of the book consists of templates you can use.

Look closely at the fish or koi. It is so realistic!

The lizard can be called an action model since its body and legs can be moved realistically like a lizard.

Only the bat is an origami bat but it is a compound model and again origami purist might not like it. It makes no difference to me since I first learned my origami models from Isao Honda's book.

I have a few books on this kind of paper craft and this book is among the best.

Hidden Truths and Real Answers
What this book does is simply, clearly, eloquently and accurately describe what happens to any national currency that is not based on a full-reserve standard. In so doing it also describes what happens to a society that is held hostage by the ensuing fractional-reserve "money".

The book was written in 1976. So much of its prophecy has come to pass in a quarter-century that there is no doubting Mr. Katz's dead-on accuracy. When his modest work was published there was no crack-cocaine epidemic. Violent crime was only beginning to escalate beyond prior statistical levels. There were no Junk Bond Kings. Leveraged corporate buy-outs and hostile takeovers had not yet made billionaires of the new "owners" while throwing millions of hard working trades-people out of work. There was no National Health Care Plan hovering benignly nearby. Panama, Desert Storm, Somalia, 9/11, Afghanistan and Desert Shield (to name a few) hadn't occurred. "Electronic cash" was an Orwellian concept. The Homeless had not yet appeared en masse. You could purchase a new car for less than three thousand dollars. And Social Security benefits alone provided a modest but adequate allowance for the majority of retirees.

"The Paper Aristocracy" explains in structured, unemotional content the real reasons why these and many other things have come about or changed for the worse. Mr. Katz should be required reading at every business school on every university campus in America. Perhaps the danger in that explains why this book is so very hard to obtain.

With excellent instructions and beautiful photos, Paper Art explores numerous aspects of a versatile, age-old medium that still offers today's crafters opportunity for innovation. The first section covers traditional papermaking techniques, outlines necessary supplies and details several methods, then explains how to add color and texture and how to make shaped papers. The next section, "Decorating Paper," encompasses embossing, stenciling, stamping, marbling, batik, various printing methods, orizomegami (the Japanese art of pleating the paper to create dye resists), and paste papers. "Papercraft Techniques" demonstrates manipulative methods: collage, papier-mâché, weaving, pleating, pop-ups, and sculpture. For additional inspiration, Paper Art also showcases striking works by 50 leading paper artists.

Amazing--covers all techniques to add decoration to paper
A friend of mine lent me this book and I went right home and ordered it from Amazon. I am new to paper arts and I have a few other books with sections on decorating your own paper (marbling, paste papers, block printing, batik, etc., etc.) This is the only book, though, that gives enough guidance (including photographic images of all the tools needed and the steps involved) to give me the confidence to do the gorgeous techniques on my own. I can't wait to receive my own copy!

Easy-to-make artistic & elegant cards
I was very impressed by the artistry and sophistication of the designs in this book. They are definitely elegant, not cutesy or country, yet easy to make using simple tools and materials.

There are 13 complete projects including collage, printed, fold-out and photo holder cards. Each of these will lend itself to many more varieties depending on the paper and embellishments used. There are excellent step-by-step instructions accompanied by full-color photos making assembly a breeze. Some, like the potato print card, would be great projects to do with a child. Additional sections include making your own envelopes and paper, and eight pages of paper samples.

If you are looking for beautiful cards that are simple to create and that will impress your friends and family, this is the book to get. It is also a great addition to any rubber stamper's library because the structures in these projects adapt easily to decorative stamping.

A top pick for children coping with cancer in the family
This is one of the best books we found when our family was dealing with a recent cancer diagnosis. It is sensitive and caring and provides concrete examples for positive steps families can take to help children cope successfully with a tough situation. Appropriate for our children, aged 3,5, and 7, it is a book even adults will appreciate. We have used the "Paper Chain" concept to reach out to adult friends hospitalized for a variety of reasons. We found that its broad potential gave us a way to talk about cancer in the context of many illnesses -- and how coping skills are useful for everyone.

An off-beat, totally charming look at college life.
Our heroine, Evelyn, is a freshman at college, and we follow her exuberant experiences as she plunges into the discovery of quirky acquaintances and the oddities of college life, pictured by Langton at her whimsical best. Most charming of all are here passionate "unsendable love letters" to the professor she has a mad crush on. At once savvy and innocent, determined to meet life head-on, Evelyn's first year of independance is a joy to share. Read this book, it's a treat!
