Best Western I've read this year!
I bought this book because I, too, am published by Berkley and was curious. I hadn't heard of the author. Read the book and loved it. Great characters, great movement, great atmosphere, and a great lesson in Texas history. I hope Berkley and other publishers continue to reprint well-crafted Westerns like this.

A very readable onomastic anthology!
In brief, then, it is my opinion that this neat . . .onomastic anthology is indeed very readable.

A real gem!
This is an outstanding collection of some of the most important papers in evolutionary ecology, and when one can get them with Hamilton's wry, insightful, and occasionally extremely funny commentary, all I can say is "BUY IT!" No, Hamilton's mathematics is not for the faint of heart, but even if the thought of equations gives you the willies, you will find valuable stuff about the nature of science and scientists in the "interlinear" that links each of the stand-alone papers. I look forward to Volume 2 with great excitement!

You've Got to See This One!
This is one of the CUTEST paper-piecing pattern books I've seen in a long time. Lots of blocks, lots of patterns and project ideas, and good instructions. I found it absolutely charming! - I've been recommending it to foundation-piecing loving students! If you need something special for your sewing room, or for sewing friends, this one is well worth the cost.

The Negotiation Process and the Resolution of International Conflicts (Studies in International Relations (Paper))
Published in Paperback by University of South Carolina Press (August, 1998)
Authors: P. Terrence Hopmann and Terrance Hopmann
Amazon base price: $24.95
Average review score:

Excellent
I'm surprised that I'm the first reviewer of this book! When I took a course on International Negotiations last year, all my fellow students found Hopmann's book excellent. It is by far the most structured book I've ever read, with a very simple and concise language. After creating a simple, bilateral model of negotiation, Hopmann adds additional elements one-by-one, each of which makes the model both more complex and more realistic. First, he drops the assumption of equality between parties. Second, he modifies the assumption that individuals are perfectly rational. Third, Hopmann eliminates the assumption that negotiations are conducted by individuals (or a unitary actor) and focuses instead on the role of national bureaucracies and politics on negotiations. Fourth, he no longer views negotiations in static terms, but rather looks at how the interaction process itself affects the outcomes of negotiations. Fifth, he dismisses the assumption that the parties are negotiating in a vacuum and introduces the effects of the international environment. Sixth, he drops the assumption of simple bilateral negotiations and introduces the role of third parties as arbitrators and mediators. Seventh and finally, he expands the focus to include large, complex, and multilateral negotiations of the kind that occur in OAS and the UN. As Hopmann argues: "By adding these elements of complexity one at a time, we can best analyze what special impact each feature has on the overall relationship between the negotiation process and its outcomes." This book is truly a must-have for all those interested in negotiation. It is simple and understandable, providing concrete - and at times even "amusing" - examples.

Best report of its kind
This report renews with the spirit of cooperation which prevailed in the West prior to 1988 and goes beyond the monotonous TINA mentality of the 1990s. It describes the situation in Central Asia, the variety of governments from fundamentalist Taliban to more democratic republics, the impact of energy on politics, the role of the global and regional powers (US, Europe, Japan, Russia, China, India, Iran), the complexity of relations between ethnicity, religion, development, the risks of not assisting those regions for the people themselves and the rest of the world, the relations that should exist between the West and Islam and also the importance to learn more about those 1 billion people stretched from Morocco to Indonesia.

The report is also a breakthrough because it states the importance of distributing the revenues of oil among the population, avoid dictators pilferage those revenues but that they are invested in sustainable growth and integrate those countries in the global system. This echoes German Foreign Minister concerns about the risk paused by failed states on global security. Corporations are recommended to look for more than their revenues and States to avoid useless Great Games in Central Asia to ensure stable and viable societies. It also proves the World Bank and other international organisations are serious about their desire to improve global material conditions.

An excellent introduction of Central Asia and a new era in International Relations

Fabulous design
This is a wonderful story/paper doll collection set at the turn of the 20th century, about the friendship and lifestyles of two girls-one who goes to college and the other who stays home. The story is delightful, and the illustrations are fantastic. I particularly enjoyed the description of each piece of clothing printed on the back of the piece. Very well done.
