An insightful and through text

This book goes beyond the contemporary stereotypes that go with the legacy of JFK. The author deals with the subject of the life and times of President Kennedy in a way that is sure to interest both the academic and casual reader.

Can a book involving Philip IV *not* get 5 stars?

For anyone who has ever thought about Spanish history to the point that it becomes an unhealthy obsession, to the point that it begins to color certain disturbing dreams, never has there been a more appropriate piece of literature. For those, on the other hand, who couldn't care less about 17th century Spain, the appeal of this book is, I imagine, somewhat limited.

Like some modern Don Quixote, _The King Amaz'd_ satirically juxtaposes the rigid mask of idealist societal aspirations with the all too worldly (and I do mean worldly in the, ahem, fullest sense of the word) reality underneath. In subtle undertones, the author identifies how when religion becomes an instrument for maintaining national identity and social order, Good becomes only a synonym for conformity and repression of individual freedom. One is not surprised, in this situation, to find the Devil to be the principal advocate of rational thought and individuality.

Yet in a very real sense, unlike Don Quixote, the book is first and foremost a period piece -- a brief and light hearted journey through the end of Spain's so-called Golden Age. Any universal insights are, in the end, none too profound; but nor are they intended to be any other way. The everpresent Freudian conflict between the superego and the id is really but a backdrop in this homage to the mindset of an age that, despite some historical liberties (for this really is more about the period itself rather than specific facts within the period), the author captures flawlessly.

I have difficulty imagining this selling too well outside of Spain, though.

These design motifs resemble the "mon" or family crests first used for identification on the battlefield beginning in the 12th century and later becoming family crests. I have used these designs to decorate boxes and then decoupage them for my friends.

Creative ideas for experienced and inexperienced card makers

As someone who is always looking for new ideas in cardmaking, I found this book to be useful. The cards are easier to make than they appear to be. Some designs are more intricate and may take a bit more time to master. But there is a nice range of projects for cardmakers of all levels.

Excellent Planes

Some very good model planes. They can actually turn and float!!! The plane contest is very fun. I learnt a lot of skills on how to make paper planes from this book. Recommend for people who like paper planes and people who like to have a bit of fun (even if they don't know how to make them).
