Beautifully written memoirs!
This book is a guarantee to make you reminisce and cry and laugh along with Sharon Randall as she writes of her life. It is beautifully written, short and direct ~~ always having her short stories end with a rememberable last line that leaves you thinking more.

I found this languishing on my bookshelf after borrowing it from my mom last year. I needed something "lighter" to read after my spree of historical fiction. I thought this one was rather a slim volume and I can surprise my mom by returning it this weekend. But it was a surprise to me! For such a small volume, this woman writes with a punch ~~ a punch to the soul. She shouts, cajoles and whispers to your memories and soul with grace and humor. Just like a mom and wife, daughter and sister and granddaughter. I only wish I had a bigger box of kleenexes nearby. I also couldn't put the book down after reading the foreword by her son.

Now that I know why my local newspaper carry her column, I will be reading her work again and again. She speaks to the mother and wife inside of me. She makes me sit and remember who I was long before I have gotten to this part of my journey. She talks as if you're sitting next to her with a cup of tea and you both are just gabbing away ~~ only her stories serve to remind you that life is short and it is even more precious than we all realize. This is a book that should be shared, not hoarded in dusty libraries or in the back of the bookcase. This is a book that everyone should give to their loved ones ~~ male or female. It speaks to all of us.

I just love writers like Sharon Randall ~~ they really speak and it is up to us to really listen ~~ with our ears and our hearts.

This is an outstanding collection of newspaper columns. Homespun and heartfelt, these stories touched me on many levels. Sharon Randall is a gifted writer and a fine storyteller. She has a magical sense of putting it all together, bringing each topic full circle. No matter the subject-something as light as her daughter's tea parties, as funny as her blind brother's adventure in driving, and as sad and poignant as her husband's battle with cancer, she left me with a feeling of warmth-and more often than not, a smile.

I read the beautiful piece, "The Paper Cranes," to my young daughters and their friends and they listened very intently. It led to a question and answer session about the Atomic Bomb and the end of World War II, and then a fascination with origami and the symbolism of 1,000 paper cranes. It was a lot to take away from one small story.

This is a book I'll keep on my shelf and I know I'll refer to it from time to time when I'm looking for a friend with whom I wish to share a thought or feeling. Meanwhile, as a former newspaper columnist (in the San Francisco Bay area) I'll recommend it to everyone as classic material of the genre. Looking forward to the next book.

Warm and compelling
I could not put this book down until I had devoured every word! My only regret is that this is her one and only book! How I hope to see another soon! "Birdbaths and Paper Cranes" is not only humorous, poignant, thought-provoking and, at times, heartbreakingly sad, but it is a quick easy read, with lessons from her life that will enrich yours!

Breaking Tunnel Vision
Perhaps one of the greatest mistakes of ours is developing thoughts about Iraq with absent resources. We are so removed from what happens there, and what people have gone through that it is easy enough to say that war is not the answer and believe that the solution lies in allowing a people to overthrow their own dictator. This book obliterates the logistics behind that line of thinking.

It is a heartwrenching biography that provides a perspective that we commonly forget to include in all the dialogue generated about our war in Iraq. Clearly war is never a good answer, but allowing the injustice this man endured to exist is tragic.

Wonderful Novel
This book is more than a wonderful novel by a brave author; it like a history that involves the most important period of time in Iraq which we need to know more about it. I had spent most of my time reading this novel for some days and I couldn't stop myself reading more and more. I was following step by step, the moving of the hero of this story "AlY" from place to place in prisons and cities of Iraq. And I was concentrating on the human's emotions that the author could describe it bravely and what was going on in the strict prisons. I felt sorry for what happened to his wife and his two children and I cried for what was happening to the thousands of young Iraqi men and women in prisons. This novel is a scream of the maltreated people in Iraq. This novel is the most wonderful journey I have ever red. At the end, I would like to say thanks to the author.

An Exciting Novel
I was really interested to read more about Iraq and Sadam's regime,So I found this interesting book about an Iraqi prisoner that had been taken for many years and had seen and heard lots of stories.you can tell that its a nice and exciting story from its very first page. The most romantic part was when he met his wife "Sahar" for a first time, and the time he spent with his friends. Its a real life story that happened to the author himself, thats why it made me more excited to read it in a short period of time. On February 6, I red an interview in "Chicago reader" ,in the front page, with the author of this book. He told some details about his life and his family. I just want to tell the author that I will be waiting for more....

good book!
Of all the Addy books, this last one was my favorite as a girl. (I remember crying when I finished it)-by no means do I want to give away the end, but this book really illustrates the consequences reaped by the civil war. Though written for younger girls, I would even recommend this for older people to read because adults would probably be able to grasp the deeper meaning of this book- that perhaps we ought to take a lesson from history. Our prejudices and arrogance led to the enslavement of part of our race, which led to hate and violence. We still see these things today and so perhaps by reading books like these, that go back to times of hardship or war, it makes us see that there will always be consequences to our actions, and oftentimes it takes a generation or so for it to take its harsh affects.

Uplifting
This is another in the American Girls series about Addy Walker, a ten-year-old African-American girl living in the America of 1865. With the war over, but so many ex-slaves displaced, Addy and her family still hope to find sister Esther. In yet another winter, Addy finds the good and the bad, gain and loss, and hope and the cost of freedom.

The final chapter is a historical look at the post-Civil War years, with Reconstruction, segregation, and the Civil Right Movement. This is another great Addy book, one that tells the unvarnished truth of life for African-Americans in America, but in an uplifting way. My eleven-year-old daughter is now the proud owner of the Addy books, and an Addy doll. She loves these books, and the young lady in your life will too.

We're all together again
This story is about a young American girl named Addy. In "Changes for Addy", Addy gets a letter from a women named Bertha Miller saying that she has found Addy's Auntie Lula, Uncle Solomon, and Addy's baby sister Esther. They were going to Philadelphia to give Esther back to Addy's momma. When they find Auntie Lula and Esther outside a church, Auntie Lula explains that Uncle Solomon has died and she, Auntie Lula, may die too. The joy of Christmas for Addy is washed away, leaving only the sadness of death. Is Addy's Christmas ruined? Or will Addy find joy in the happiness of the Christmas? I would highly recommend this book to a friend. This book is a tiny bit better than "Happy Birthday, Felicity" because Addy has way more adventure than Felicity. Connie Rose Porter is an awesome reader and writer.

All sorts of ideas for you!
I really liked this book because there's so many ideas
of how to write and design letters and paper. My favourite
chapter is Chapter 1 and 2. Chapter 1 is how to design
words, for example, for hot, use red to write the word hot
and draw fire around it. Chapter 2 teaches you how to write
Top Secret letters. There's codes, hidden messages, and
dots with letters. Other chapters are interesting too. This
book has six chapters in all. Chapter 3 is Paper Capers,
with all sorts of ways to write letters to friends. Chapter
4 is called Writing from the Road. When you are traveling,
this book teaches you interesting ways to write about your
trip to your friend or others. Chapter 5's title is Super
Stationery. You can make pretty paper and interesting
envelopes. The last chapter, Chapter 6, is called Signing
Off with Style. The author show you many ways to sign a
letter. But you'll have to read this book to see everything!

THIS SPICY BOOK
if you are one of those girls that when they're bored they like to draw, paint, invent envelopes, and find out the different kinds of I dots you can make, this book is for you. This book has an explosion of imagination and creativity I liked it vey much is HIGHLY recommended

The story Julian Secret Agent is one of my favorite books because I love books with a little mystery. I can look at the silly illustration in this story and laugh for days. We are finishing our unit on realistic fiction books and this book was a pleasure to read.

This Book I Read A Lnot !
I just love this book is called "Changes For Felicity", and

I just love the American Girls Collection of all of them like

Josefina, Addy, Molly, Kit, Samatha, Kirsten, and of couse,

Felicity, I hope you enjoy them, as much as I do.

Enjoy!

American Girls Changes For Felicity
I liked this book because it has hores, friends, adventure, and Felicity and her family. I also liked this book because Felicity is fun to read about. My favortie part is when Felicity helps a sick man who is in jail. I liked this part because then she helps the man get better. I don't think it should be changed because it is good the way it is. I read this book because the cover was nice and the title made it sound interesting.

Wonderful
This is another in the American Girls Short Stories series about Felicity Merriman, a ten-year-old girl living in the America of 1775. In this book, Felicity takes care of her new baby sister and waits for the birth of her horse's foal. However, with war beginning between the American colonies and the British Empire, and with people imprisoned for seemingly no good reason, there is much that is hard. Here Felicity learns about love and loss, and about new beginnings.

The final chapter is a fascinating and highly informative look into the effects of the new war on the people of Williamsburg in 1775. I must admit that this book really surprised me. My daughter and I both like the Felicity stories, but this one was much more serious than the others, and taught some wonderful lessons.

My daughter and I both really enjoyed this book, and we both highly recommend it to you.

The year is 1906, the place is San Francisco. Annie and her brother, Jack, have just traveled here in their magic tree house, on a mission from Morgan le Fay, the mysterious magical librarian from King Arthur's time. In an effort to save Camelot, the children have already found three special kinds of writing for Morgan's library: something to follow (Civil War on Sunday), something to send (Revolutionary War on Wednesday), and something to learn (Twister on Tuesday). Now it's time to find "something to lend." It's a quiet, peaceful morning in San Francisco, and Annie is eager to start exploring. So eager, in fact, that she pulls Jack away from his research just before he would have learned a very important piece of information... All too soon, the siblings figure it out for themselves: they have arrived in this lovely city a moment before one of the biggest earthquakes the U.S. has ever known shakes the Bay Area to pieces! Stunned, Jack and Annie wander the streets, but quickly find a purpose. Lots of people need help transporting goods to safety, and many more are left without any idea where to go or what to do. But what about their mission? Will the kids find something to lend before the entire city goes up in flames?

Mary Pope Osborne's tremendously popular Magic Tree House series offers young readers a chance to immerse themselves in spellbinding adventures even as they learn about history. The terrible San Francisco earthquake is described with great historical accuracy, but with admirable age-appropriateness. (Ages 5 to 8) --Emilie Coulter

Almost Complete
This is (by far) the best Prescription Drug guide I've seen. The pros: I do agree with the other customers who said it was easier to read than the PDR. More comprehensive than the PDR. More organized than the PDR, etc. The con: I am a patient who takes many, many drugs. Unfortunately some of them are rare drugs which aren't used for many people such as "Trental" or "Clindamycin." These drugs are listed, but they note that: "This profile has been shortened to make room for more widely used medicines." I understand the book is well over a 1000 pages, but having shortened reviews of meds wasn't the most pleasing thing.--I do need complete info for these particular drugs and was not able to get it from this guide. I did not see this problem with the PDR. On the Whole: What I do like about this book the most is that everything about it is very logical. The saving space bit is understandable, but if you're taking many rare drugs and need complete info. on them, I'd reccommend browsing the book before buying it/or buying the PDR instead.

A Laypersons Guide to Prescriptions
Maybe I'm parinoid, but that doesn't mean that I can read my doctors writing on my families prescriptions, or that I know all the generic names of the drug I'm suppose to be taking, or that the pharmicist really checked for drug interactions. This book will help clear things up. It lists every drug you could think of, with generic brands, has color pictures of hard to identify drugs.

Especially useful are the details on drug interations, including herbal medications (e.g. don't take St. Johns Wort with birth control pills) and common foods (e.g. some drugs do not mix will with grapefruit). Long also lists medical conditions that do not mix well with drugs (e.g. diabetes) as well as the risks of smoking and taking a certain drug, or the possible effects of the drug on pregnancy (very complete information here).

Even if you only take one or two Prescription drugs this is a good book to own, your health is worth it. Also, you can look up friends and relatives drugs and find out what they are taking them for, as well as possible side effects or harmful interactions. This would be a good gift for an elderly parent or friend.

Absolutely the best!
I have been buying this book for years. It's better than anything else I've tried. It's easier to read than the PDR. It's much more comprehensive than other books, software programs or information on the internet. In addition to full enformation for each drug it has numerous tables of drug interactions and various types of side effects. A must-have in your home.

My Hero
Kaya and Lone Dog, by Janet Beller Shaw, is a book that taught me to appreciate the small things in life, like my brother, my mom and things that may not be valuable but are still things that I own. Kaya lost so many of the things that were in her life. It got me to treat animal's right whether they are strays or not, because Kaya is befriended by a stray dog who becomes very important to her. This book inspired me to try to learn a new language, like Kaya had to learn in order to communicate with someone to try to save herself. This book is one of the best books I ever read.

Another excellent Kaya story
This is another in the American Girls series about Kaya'aton'my', a nine-year-old Native-American girl growing up among the Nez Perce people in 1764. In this book, Kaya must avoid the root harvesting, lest her troubled thoughts spoil the harvest. She is troubled at the loss of her sister and horse, and the death of Swan Circling. To keep her busy, she is assigned other tasks, and along the way she meets a starving, pregnant dog. Against the advice of her family and tribe, she befriends the wild dog and her litter, and along the way she learns something about friendship.

This is another excellent Kaya story, complete with Bill Farnsworth's wonderful illustrations. My eleven-year-old daughter is a big fan of Kaya, and loved this book as much as the others. We both highly recommend it to you.

A special friendship
In Kaya and the Lone Dog, the 4th book in the series, Kaya is still mourning the death of her namesake Swan Circling. Feeling very much alone and also feeling the continuous guilt of getting her blind sister Speaking Rain captured, she befriends a lone dog, whom Kaya thinks is very much like her, all alone. Though her family and friends object to her befriending the Lone Dog, for it is unusual for a dog to live alone, Kaya doesn't heed their warnings and forms a special bond with the dog. After Lone Dog gives birth to some puppies, Kaya feels more and more attached to the dog and her pups, like they are her family. It is almost like Lone Dog can communicate with her. However, as the pups grow older, Kaya begins to feel the inevitable. Will Lone Dog leave her? Kaya is hopelessly torn as she knows Lone Dog is a dog that want to be free to roam the wild. In the end, Lone Dog gives a very special gift to Kaya, so she could remember her.

Good suggestions for overhauling one's work & life goals
Chapter Four of this book gives particularly meaningful ways to create positive change in one's outlook and attitude towards one's work life. This chapter has helped me step back and see the larger issues which truly affect the day to day detail of the workplace. One reading of this book is not enough as each chapter is packed with so many ideas and detailed suggestions for improving one workplace environment. I need to reread this book several times to take it all in. I plan to keep this book handy as a reference and motivator to put as many of the suggestions into practice as possible. Improving the quality of one's work-life and consequently home-life is a goal that I believe this book can help with.
