A diverse introduction

Even if one is only marginally interested in postmodernism, this book is nonetheless valuable. It reprints substantial excerpts from writings that put forth numerous important ideas, from Descartes to "The Cartesian Masculinization of Thought." It should not be mistaken for an introduction to modern philosophy, however, because it is strictly Continental and (obviously) postmodern. Still highly recommended.

An excellent, inexpensive intro to the craft.

Take a good look at the picture of the book's front cover because it conveys the spectrum of projects in the book. From the simple, nearly cartoonish jet plane to the more complex flower arrangement to the very elgant grapevine piece that depends on layering and texturing white paper to great effect. The author even covers painting techniques like sponging and spattering to enhance plainer papers.

Projects are based on diagrams that can be enlarged or reduced with a scanner or copier. You could also copy the diagrams with tracing paper or transfer paper, but resulting projects will be about 4x4 inches in size. The diagrams are used as templates to cut the necessary shapes from construction paper and step by step photos guide you through assembling the pieces together. You'll be amazed at what can be created with just glue and construction paper! I really like paper scultpure because I can easily build an an object that I would otherwise have problems drawing realistically. The duck on the book's cover is a great example. If you don't have great drawing or painting skills, paper sculpture offers an alternative way to express yourself visually.

There are some other great paper sculpture books at three times the price of this one. They're mostly filled with examples of the featured artists' work, and while pretty to look at, may not justify the higher price to some. Buy this book and spend the money saved on some beautiful papers instead.

Truely "hands-on" learning from the ground up.

This book is an ideal textbook for the person who knows nothing at all about Accounting. It is also good for the person who needs a refresher course on the basics. Combine it with "VIKING MARINE", A business simulation (ISBN number 0-538-60627-4) which is the "hands-on" portion of the package, and you have everything you need to fully understand the basics of Bookkeeping/Accounting.

A classic text on research papers

I came across this little book years ago when I was still in school and though dated, the information is the classic standard for research papers. Only 26 pages, it's a great starter and reference to go into the backpack. I have the rest of the series, also sadly out of print which doesn't even seem to be taught any more in school. Grammar, Advanced Grammar, Diagramming Sentences, and Poetry.

Rare Schulz Interview

Mrs. Scott was one of only a few authors who was able to interview Charles Schulz. Her photo-illustrated book looks at the history of this American art form and profiles some of the best cartoonists in the business. Although it is "out of print," the book is available from Recorded Books as an unabridged audiobook with a print copy of the book. A must buy for any budding cartoonist.

Finished by choice....

When I was in the 6th grade my dad made me read this book and do a 5 page book report. I fought him for almost 2 months. When I finally did start to read it, I couldn't put it down. Now almost 10 years later I can't talk my mom out of his copy so I am getting my own.

The Truth About Uri Geller

An excellent compendium of scientific research into the paranormal powers of Isreali-born psychic Uri Geller. There are papers by respected scientists as well as magicians who describe many of Geller's feats, such as deforming and breaking spoons and forks without using magic tricks, permanently deforming several pieces of nitinol wire, telepathy, and producing apports. If the only thing that you've ever read if Geller has been James Randi's overly-biased books, check this one out and find out the truth; you'll be convinced!
