I am somewhat biased for my review of 10. This book is out of print and has been replaced by Handbook of Pulping and Papermaking. The first 20 chapters of the second edition are unaltered except for some clarifications where necessary. The second edition adds about 300 pages on wet-end chemistry, colloid chemistry, printing processes, optical properties of paper, wood and fiber anatomy, and issues of processing and process control

This book was very inspiring. It challenged your personal committment to Christ and being a true witness for Him. In this day and age it is refreshing to find books that still reflect Christian values and examples. What made this book, and many others in this collection,better still is that my children enjoy them. Much better that they read these caliber of books than the stuff you find on most bookshelves for pre-teen and teens!

This is quite possibly the finest book on fisheries management ever written. A perfect read for any fisherman, biologist, or politician, Leitzell shines as the one of the finest minds in our era.

The models in here are from real gliders with excellent performance. The only hard part was trying to find the 5x7"in. note cards to trace on. You'll really enjoy this book!

This is undoubtedly the best book of poetry I've read in 1997. Wojahn's capacity for compelling language, brutal description and transcendant beauty, makes everyone else pale by comparison

CE LIVRE EST INDISPENSABLE. Il nous explique tout: pourquoi raconter des histoires, quand les raconter (au lit, près d'un feu, en voyage...), quelles sortes d'histoires raconter (inspirées par des objets, basées sur des évenements familiaux..), comment les raconter..... Et bien sûr il y a des histoires et quelles histoires! Des histoires pour les petits, d'autres utilisant des mouchoirs (the professor, the peasant and his plot, rabbit story, mouse story,doll babies). L'auteur n'a pas oublié les histoires employant l'origami ou le papier coupé ou déchiré. Les histoires employant des objets sont très intéressantes car elles utilisent ou des poupées gigognes, ou des carrés de tissu ou une tasse! Dans ce livre vous apprendrez aussi qu'on peut raconter une histoire en la dessinant dans le sable, la boue ou la neige. Il y a aussi une histoire utilisant les doigts et une autre la flamme d'une bougie! La bibliographie est très intéressante. Un livre merveilleux!

I first found Tom Tierney's "Famous African American Paper Dolls" at an Afrocentric bookstore in Philadelphia. I love to buy paper dolls for my seven year old daughter, but this collection I held back for my college students (I teach anthropology). I was thrilled to have a collection of cut-outs of such wonderful and inspiring folks as Toni Morrison, Mary McLeod Bethune, Leontine Price and Zora Neale Hurston.

This morning I brought Tierney's book into my "Women at the Margins" course (translation: an anthropology class about gender, race, class and economic development). I thought sharing this book might be a fun way to celebrate black history month. I barely had the book out of my bag before half the class squealed in delight.

Yes, these are college students! But Tierney's artwork is incredible -- the colors are soft and bright, and the costumes are carefully researched -- and the paper dolls are always drawn with great care and respect. Tierney is a true paper doll artist. He also knows fashion history.

My favorite all-time feature of Tierney's paper doll books is the section on the inside covers describing the various dolls and their outfits. The description includes a short biography of each woman and a brief second paragraph about her clothes (each glossy cardboard page includes one fully-attired paper doll and one "spare" outfit). Every item is discussed as if models were wearing them on runways.

I especially adore the narrative on the soft wool coat and "flower pot hat" Rosa Parks wore when she was arrested. Tierney even describes her purse and comfortable walking shoes. He took the time to find out what Mrs. Parks was wearing that day. Mrs. Parks's other outfit was one that she might have worn to her job working for a member of the U.S. House of Representatives.

My mother -- a librarian in Florida -- has Tierney's "African-American Women Paper Dolls" cut out and on display in her library for black history month, placed strategically in a cabinet amongst books by African-American women authors. My advice: buy one for your daughter, and one for yourself. And if you teach a class focusing at all on gender and ethnicity, you might have to order one for your students!

This text was VERY helpful. The illustrations and examples were enough to explain the topic without havung to read the entire book.. Also the problems given at the end of each section were very good. Some were tough; however, the author starts you out with easy problems and works up to the more difficult ones. This text definitely is a good learning aid.

A great book that touches anyone who ever grew up. While it entertains and makes me laugh, it triggers memories of my own life and feelings...just like storytelling should.

I am a U.S. Government teacher and I am currently using the Federalist Papers in all of my classes. The modern translation of the Federalist Papers coupled with the parellel text makes these important documents readable and understandable. It is crucial that students know, comprehenf and evaluate the philosophical debate behind the Constitution. This book brings the writings of Hamilton, Jay and Madison to life for a new generation. I give my full endorsement for this publication. I am hopeful there will be a second edition with other specific documents.
