Victorian Era Paper Dolls
I love these paper dolls. The time period was very ornate at the time which called for some very ornate dresses. Red was a very fashionable color too. These paper dolls are great for kids and a great addition to paper doll collections. Also, look at some of Tom Tierneys other paper doll publishings which were just as good as these.

What a fantastic addition to any American Girls Collection!
This book has recipes and information appropriate to the times of Kirsten, Samantha, and Molly. You can create a pioneer breakfast or a Victorian dinner, and you can see a sample shopping list from September of 1944 (and how much items cost in cents and points). It shows how Molly's lunch was packed, how wooden iceboxes were used to keep food cold, and how Samantha's table should be set. It discusses butlers and silent servants and really provides a glimpse into the time periods of these three American Girls. If you use the recipes, you can create some mighty tasty eats! My daughters both love this book, and we are thrilled to have it as part of our collection.

Excellent commentary on American life in 1842
Charles Dickens wrote a detailed log of his trip to America--from the boat in England to his travels on early American trains. His style is very light and entertaining. If you are familiar with his novels about the dark side of London and the social problems that Dickens himself grew up with, this book is quite a contrast. He is writing the book as an Englishman for other Englishmen.

I was expecting to find a lot of satire against Americans. (His comic piece "Martin Chuzzelwit" had this). However, Dickens was very positive toward the social reforms that he saw in America. He also makes some interesting comments on seeing black slaves for the first time.

Unfortunately, he wasn't able to travel far, so his impressions of America are limited. Nonetheless, this is a book that I enjoy reading and re-reading.

A welcome contribution to Catholic philosophy.
The American Thomistic Revival In The Philosophical Papers of R. J. Henle, S.J. is a collection of Fr. Henle's essays on the Catholic Thomistic revival that followed Pope Leo XIII's encyclical Aeterni Patris, and his philosophical quests for ethical and human responses to the circumstances, challenges and events of modern times. Although Thomism went into a decline after Vatican II, it is now enjoying a modest revival, and the branch of "Aristotelian Thomism" represented by Fr. Henle's thought documents him as one of the leaders of that revival and offers welcome insights into Fr. Henle's thinking. The American Thomistic Revival is a welcome contribution to the study of Catholic philosophy in general and Aristotelian Thomism in particular.

Among All These Dreamers
This is a marvellous collection of essays on various ways that dreaming can ease the stress of modern society and even help construct a better society. I particularly enjoyed essays on the specifics of women's dreams and those of African-Americans as well as those on dreams as revitalizers of our spiritual lives. A really thoughtful and dream-provoking book.

Analytische Chemie - A compehensive well-written Book
The 2nd edition of M. The book is well structured, clearly written and enables the reader to be quickly informed over the principles and applications of each technique. It is well suited for students and scientists of chemistry and related topics.

Hands-on Activities that Bring History to Life!
Wow! An amazing resource for teachers who are teaching about the ancient Maya. After seeing some films about the history of the Maya my class made this pyramid and ball court. It was an amazing experience that they will never forget. The projects require students to follow directions and to problem solve as they piece the models together. When constructed properly they both stand up in amazingly realistic shape and form. They came out so well that we even put the replicas in our school library. Kudos to Mr. Savage for his replicas and informational packet.

A truly strange and compelling mystery!
First, let me explain that I am *NOT* particularly a fan of Ellery Queen. It's of the right generation for the mystery novels I do love best. But, try as I might, I've never really appreciated Queen as a character, and the stories don't intrigue me the way writers like Christie, Rendell or Bramah often do. So why, I've always wondered, did I have such fond memories of this particular novel of Ellery Queen, having read it more than a few years ago. I still had my old (ancient!) copy of it, so one day I took it out...and I found it just as compelling as I remembered! Okay, so I now had a mystery of my own to figure out. Several inquiries and web pages later, I had my answer. This is actually one of two Ellery Queen novels ghost written by none other than Avram Davidson! (The other one, if you're interested, is "The Fourth Side Of The Triangle.") Davidson is much better known for his fanstasy-type short stories...very much in the line of the "weird fantasy" (a genre that hardly exists anymore) published by Arkham House during their first three or four decades of publishing. Consider these quotes: "He was one of the finest short story writers ever to use the English language." "[He] may may have been one of the great short story writers of our times...the equal of, say, Saki and perhaps even John Collier." So, these two novels (if you can find them in print, that is) are more than a little bit of fun. If you're looking for something well worth your time, check them out!

Andrew Jackson Vs. Henry Clay: Democracy and Development in Antebellum America (Bedford Series in History and Culture (Paper))

Clear, concise explanation the Clay/Jackson power struggle
Today we know them as Old Hickory and the Great Compromiser. However, they called each other King Andrew the first and the Corrupt Bargainer. Jackson and Clay were the opposite poles of the axis of Antebellum politics. Each man carried an ideological dislike and often personal hatred of the other man. However, each shaped the political landscape in the US perhaps more than any men after 1800. The 1820-30s were the utmost of critical in the development of the US- the crossroads where the US could prove a failed democratic experiment or emerging industrial country. In these crucial times nothing happened in Washington, DC without either Clay's or Jackson's approval. Their personal feud infulenced everything from construction of national highways, and the national banking system to slavery and tarriffs.

Watson keeps an even hand in explaining the complex relationship of these two important men. His writing is percise and insightful. The first part is Watson's explantion and analysis. Part 2 consist of over 100 pages of historical letters and writings. This allows the reader to understand Jackson and Clay thru their own words. The 200+ pages read very fast and contain all the information your likely to ever need to know about the connection between Clay and Jackson. The book was designed "to be a reasonable one-week assignment for a college course." It proves very reasonable indeed.
