This is one of the best Ellery Queen's books I have ever read. It just kept you guessing as to who is the killer. I have read a number of mystery books and Ellery Queen is by far the best. When the identity of the killer was finally revealed in the end I can only shake my head and say 'now why didn't I think of that?'

I read it at bed time every night. I awaited every moment to find out what happens next. It's a great mystery and you don't know til the very end what will happen.

Three Score and Thirteen is a nice contreibution, well organized and useful, and very clearly written by someone strongly motivated to defend the Constitution and the principles of the American Foundingh. The idea that only lawyers and other train professionals are qualified to understand the Constitution is possibly the biggest reason it has become a "living document" that is more like a dead letter. Upholding the Constirution and its limits on the federal government is in fact incumbent upon every American. In Three Score and Thirteen, James B. Plair does this essential duty. Along with his wife Sally, who served as his editor for this project, Plair outlines the actual text of the Constitution and amplifies its meaning with the help of quotations from The Federalist Papers, an important series of essays by Alexander Hamilton, John Jay, and James Madison that helps us understand the Framers' intentions. I'm impressed by this work, because it is so far ahead of its time. Published in 1983, Callahan's work, in my mind, bucks the notion that "newer is always better." Indeed, as you read this book you will be familiar with it already-- because so much of what you read about today must have, in some way, found its roots in Callahan's ideas (i.e. many have read "Purpose Driven Church," by Rick Warren, which is also an informative read, but have no idea that many of the concepts put forth by Warren seem to originate here).

Callahan's book is straight-forward-- and is applicable in any church, in any size, in any location, and in any setting. He doesn't presume that you need a certain worship style-- his writing is not so shallow as that. Or, that you need a contemporary building (or a traditional one). No, he goes beyond the "surface" issues that we so often get stuck in and looks at the church in light of its MISSION.

That would be a central idea to Callahan in this-- and in all of his writings, as a matter of fact-- THE MISSIONAL CHURCH. In this work, he describes how the mission is central, and how various aspects of the church (he deals with facilities, visibility, mission and vision, finances, relationship, leadership, etc.) fit together to fuel the mission (rather than detract from it, or run as separate, disjuncted aspects of the organism).

A great read. You will benefit from the two introductions (on planning and hope, and mission and success) and chapter 1 ("Specific, Concrete Missional Objectives") alone. Those twenty pages are worth the price of the book, which is good... again... not because it is trendy, but because so many trendy works have stood on the shoulders of this groundbreaking work.

I have used this book in a long range planning program in one church with excellent results. I am now using it in a second church and believe it will give us significant information and guidance.

I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for guidance in evaluating present ministry and planning for a more effective outreach.

My son got this book as a gift for his first birthday. He just turned four and it has been a regular in our nightly rotation of books to read at bedtime since we received it. He has been able to participate in reading the book for quite a while. We have really cherished this little book. The story is so sweet and I love the illustrations.

This summer I am working at the university daycare and I am in charge of working with the younger children ages three and four. We pick names for our groups and this year we are the Fireflies. I picked up this book because I thought that the children would enjoy a story about fireflies. I never imagined it would become their favorite. In the first four days of school I read it four times. They love to tell me why they think the firefly will not twinkle and the answers are as varied as the children. They LOVED this book and I know it'll become one of their favorites as well as mine.

Government at a distance does not work. It is easy to ignore the personal responsibility of governance when it is not local. First we allowed the State to take over the rule making and curriculums of our schools and now the Federal authorities are making global rulings on school operations. Those who wish to control find it easier to make rules once at the Federal level and force all to submit to their vision. Return the control to the local levels.

Having just seen the review posted by Independent Publisher (1998) - right on the money! Ten years after publication, The Vermont Papers is still the only blueprint for dismantling overgrown liberty-destroying political superstructures and restoring true LOCAl democracy with widespread civic involvement. And we also thought it was pretty entertaining, too. (from co-author John McClaughry, now 32 years a Town Moderator)

Tierney does it again! This time he captures the family of England's longest reigning monarch. A must have for fans of royalty and vintage costume.

These paper dolls are fabulous...The costumes are not only historically accurate, but the detail of the costumes is magnificent...Tom Tierney has done it again..!

I stumbled upon this book in New York a few years back and was immediately stunned by its beauty and quality. The Gilman Paper Company apparently started their collection well before the current photography craze and amassed one of the most outstanding collections that you can imagine. Most of these photos are from the very earliest days of the medium and many are in the sepia tone that I personally love. The quality of reproduction is so good that you can actually frame some of the photos! It's astounding...well worth obtaining for any art book collector.

I purchased this book in conjunction with The Metropolitan Museum exhibit of the same name. I spent hours in the exhibit, and I spent hours pouring over the lush, and beautifully reproduced images in this book. I've always been fascinated with the photographic process, and this book explores it down to the roots. I've walked away amazed that someone figured out how to look at something, and through a chemical process tranfer ones vision onto paper. (Not to mention concocting the chemical formula) A stunning book, well worth the price.

As a former student of Dr. Miller I dove into this book with great anticipation. When I asked him to sign the book his reply was simple: "Could you identify the Gloria in your life?" My answer was yes.

A must read for every young man.
