Transcending Regional Poetry
Paper Cathedrals is beautifully printed and even more beautifully written. These poems are lyrical and idiomatic, private and universal, full of yearning and acceptance. Finally a first book that doesn't smack of workshop. The only first book I know of in which ALL of the poems have been published by our nation's top journals.

awesome first book
i have to rate this book with addonizio's _The Philosopher's Club_ and Kate Light's _Laws of Falling Bodies_ as my favorite first books. It's a powerful work. Most of the poems are religious/spiritual, which Creech handles with a skill you don't see anymore. even if you're like me and don't particularly enjoy religious poems, you'll like these. i wish i had more space here to go more in depth, but you have to get this book.

A Brilliant New Book
This is one of the most moving and beautiful books of poetry I have read in years. It is a collection of deeply felt, often spiritual--in the best sense of the word--meditations. Creech's language is lyrical, at times even ravishing but always exact. There is nothing slipshod here. It's been many years since a book of American poetry this good has been published. If you love beautifully worked language in service of truly serious and important subjects, then this is a book you will read again and again.

The BEST Activity Book Ever!
If you want to make creative, fun, and unique jewelry, than look no further! Paper Clip Jewelry is a kit with everything you need to make fun, fine, and fabulous stuff! There are gold, silver, and colored paper clips, wire pliers, beads, string, and more, including a how-to book. My parents were amazed that I could make jewelry out of such simple stuff. The book gives clear instructions and fun projects, but the most important thing is to be creative. I did that and the result was FABULOUS jewelry! So order this TERRIFIC book today and say hello to a new hobby!

Paperclip Jewelry
All of us have thought on occasion, "How can such a simple idea be so beautiful" and this book illustrates the point. I bought one for my daughter and we have worked together to make items as gifts for friend and family. Often, the reaction is "I can't believe you can do that with just paper clips and beads!" We have loved the American Girl library series and this must be one of the best "interactive" books on the market.

PERFECT FOR KIDS AND KIDS AT HEART
This is the best book I have ever seen! For girls (and boys too) who like to make, wear, or give jewelry. When people see the stuff I made with this book, they can't believe I made it with paperclips. It looks like the real thing. I made pins, chains, necklaces, bracelets and a lot of other cool stuff using just a few basic wireworking skills. The pliers come with it, and the instructions are really clear and easy to follow. My friend Katherine made her mother a gorgeous pair of earrings. I highly recommend this cool book.

Fantastic sofisticated looking projects!
I haven't had a chance to by this book yet, but I did get to skim through it at my local big box of a book store (and it cost a lot more!). The projects were very contemporary, easy, and surprisingly you would be able to find the materials with no problem. A very go read, especially if you are trying to decorate on a shoestring budget.

Create beautiful and sophiticated items for your home
This is an awesome book that shows you how to create sophisticated items for your every room in your home with easy-to-find materials. A wide variety of techniques in paper arts and crafts present endless decorating possibilities. The instructions are easy-to-follow and step-by-step including photos demonstrating each technique. Though some projects are time-consuming and require some patience, they are not necessarily hard to create.

The book starts out by showing you how to create your own paper, including making a mold and deckle. It then guides you through the essentials of paper mache including layering paper, pulp casting and relief formation. Several paper decoration techniques follow, including waxing, dyeing, using a latex resist, bleaching, stamping, stenciling, decoupage, collage and gilding.

Over 20 full projects follow, and they provide ideas for many more. My favorites include the flower screen, music floorcloth and modern looking coffee table made of cardboard. Other cool projects include collage wallpaper, an exquisite checkered table top, a leaf blind, herb pot, an embossed drawer unit, paneled lampshades and a mosaic window border.

There are also some very helpful hints and tips as well as a nice resource guide in the back. Even if you don't particularly like the style or theme of something this book will give you the basics of the projects and you can let your creativity flow. With so many different ideas, this book is nothing if not inspirational.

Beautiful presentation!
I really liked the projects/photos in this book. I'm a collage artist and I found a lot of interesting and inspiring projects nicely photographed. If you like to make your house into a work of art, this is the perfect book. If you are a mixed-media artist who likes books like Making Journals by Hand and Sophisticated Surfaces, you'll like this book. Sometimes I use books more for pictorial inspiration than for the actual projects in the book and that is the case here. However, in this case, I might actually try some of the projects, especially the collage wallpaper. She gives basic info on papermaking and paper mache, and the projects include a floorcloth, a stitched patchwork wall hanging, an embossed drawer unit, and a screen that would be beautiful if made with your own handmade paper. I have an area in my personal library for decorating books and a separate area for collage/decoupage books and this one is kept in the collage section. You won't be disappointed in this book. :)

Wow!
"Paper Doll" is a journey of self-healing that everyone should take, whether you are simply having a bad day at the office or a loved one is battling a life-threatening illness. LuAn Mitchell-Halter shows you that if you keep your chin up, things do get better even when it seems they are at their worst.

Unlike other self-help books, "Paper Doll" doesn't just give you the recipe for making lemonade out of lemons. LuAn shares very personal stories of facing adversity from her own life to help you do the same in yours. She doesn't preach...she simply offers you the strength and advice to find personal success on your own terms.

By the end of the book, you not only know more about the woman who is LuAn Mitchell-Halter, but you know more about yourself as well.

Inspiring!
Unlike most business/self-help books, this story is very personal, very real and very inspiring. LuAn's perseverance in the face of personal challenges, family tragedy and predatory business competition is amazing. It's like the movie Rocky - from the perspective of a female entrepreneur and mother.

What made the book especially poignant is the very personal story-telling style of the author. It's not wrapped up in corporate doublespeak. It's a straightforward and honest walk through an incredible life. When I finished, I felt like I'd just spent an afternoon getting to know LuAn - and was a better person for it.

Next time I'm worried about troubles at work or problems at home, I'm going to grab this book for a refresher course in overcoming challenges and forging ahead in the face of adversity.

it's a great book!

WOW I Have Never Been So Inspired
This is a book that cannot be put down, you don't want the book to end it is so inspiring. Life changing is a great way to describe the way I feel. I want to read the book again and again.

An essential reference for paperfolding enthusiasts
The art of paperfolding has been one of my interests for many years and one I enjoy sharing with my students. This book is a great reference, first of all because the illustrations are very clear and easy to follow. The projects range from simple to somewhat advanced, but none are too difficult to make once you understand the basic folds. My students are always particularly fascinated by the figures that "do things" such as the "Chinese Balloon," which you can blow up and toss around, the "Bird with Flapping Wings," which really seems to fly, and the "Snapping Alligator," which, well, you guessed it. Other paperfolds from this book that never cease to amuse children as well as adults are the "Money Fold Bow Tie," and "Jumping Frog." If you are not sufficiently amazed with your finished paperfold as it is, the author gives additional options and uses for each. Paperfolding is beautiful, magical and tons of fun. This book is a must have if you enjoy the art as much as I do.

useful for beginners
Very useful book, especially for beginners. Unlike some of the Japanese origami books, this assumes no prior cultural knowledge, so you can knock off some easy projects quickly, and do some quite complicated ones later. Recommended!

Fun & Easy to learn
This book is amazing! It has many interesting projects to do. Unlike other origami books, this book teaches you easy methods of folding. It doesn't take long for you to become a master at origami and you'll have fun too. Invest in this book soon and you won't regret it.

Excellent, clever illustrations, captivating stories
Wow. I was really impressed by this book! The illustrations were as much, if not more important to me then the story. Several of the drawings caught my attention. They really appeared so well thought out, so very artistic. I was refreshed and truly entertained by this great little masterwork. Thanks Ben.

The Best Graphic Novel of the Year!
Paper Theater is not a comic. It is a novel written in the guise of the comics genre. From its heavy poundage paper, to its complex social themes and subtexts this is definitely a work of literature.
Comprised of a septet of graphically authored narratives, this dense highly symbolic tome lacks an apparent hirsute lucidity. The art styles range from the artistically functional to the Byzantine. The Goreyesque "Bathysphere 12" reads more like illustrated plates whereas others like "The Taxidermist" come from the great tradition of silent comics.
The only readily apparent commonality is the theme of reanimation, from the attempt to create living creatures from dead ones in "Emily" to the literal revivification of the dead by the zombification process. The title itself harkens the contrast between the permanence of print and ethereal nature of performance. It is the distinction between life and death itself. Authors such as Shelly and Borges certainly played a huge influence on Catmull, bordering on plagiarism at times.
According to sources on the web, Catmull was raised Mormon in Utah. Undoubtedly, the highly religious atmosphere in which he grew up still haunts him to this day. Resurrection is after all the pivotal event in the life of Jesus.
Even the decision to print this book in black and white sustains this theme. By imbuing the characters with a pallid moribund complexion, the reader is meant to ponder the nature of what distinguishes the living from the dead. It is a technique as rococo as Joseph Smith's golden plates.
"Paper Theater" presents a historical reworking of the future. Or is it a futurist reworking of the past? I believe professor John Lewis Gaddis said it best in his book The Landscape of History, "I can't help wondering whether the insistence on distinguishing independent from dependant variables has not become, within certain of the social sciences, a prescientific test of identity rather than a coherent method of inquiry."
By turns tragic and mytho-poetic Paper Theater emerges as one of the best contemporary graphic novels of the year.

Better than Pokemon!
Paper Theatr is the besyt comic sinse "Pokemon: Team Rocket Blast Off". Its about aliens and deadd animakls and gosts. I found this booik in my brothers booklshelf. I thoghtt is wass a coloring book and he beat me up whjen jhe found out I colored the guy green. nexty time i will coulor him [__] brown. Ha hahaha.

Papercutting: Reviving a Jewish Folk Art

Absolutely fantastic for ANYONE interested in papercutting
Although I have almost every papercutting/scherenschnitte written in English, this is probably my all-time favorite -- and I'm not even Jewish. Jewish papercutting is breathtakingly beautiful (and truly in a class by itself; check the internet and/or museums for spectacular samples), so those tips/ techniques are obviously invaluable. However, the author also includes a great deal of incredibly helpful information that would enhance any style of papercutting -- and which, strangely enough, I have not seen covered in any of my other books.

My one and only complaint is that it isn't a hardcover. This is one book I want to be able to keep forever!

Great Book!
I loved this book. I take papper cutting at my hebrew school in Brentwood CA, where Amy Goldenberg is my teacher. She is a fabulous teacher and I have been taking this class for three years and I love it. Amy comes up with fun and original designs that are displayed in this book. Paper cutting is a fun art subject and this book allows you to explore it!

Excellent introduction to the craft and its uses
The summary of the history of papercutting is brief but thorough. The directions for starting out on your own are simple and encouraging. Finally, the designs for those who need inspiration are full of traditional images in a contemporary style and lend themselves to lots of personal touches. This book inspired me to tackle what appeared to be a very daunting art form

John Rubadeau: great writer, great professor.
I bought this book because I was attending John Rubadeau's writing class at the University of Michigan as this book was being published. He was so hysterically funny, brilliantly interesting, and fantastically energetic about grammar and writing that I knew that this book would reflect his passion for the English language and for life in general! Boy, was I right!!
Great work of art, John!!!

I highly recommend this book
When I first picked it up, the title made me think that this WAS a romance novel. What makes it such a hysterical book is that it's about an erudite manly-man in financial trouble who thinks the easiest way to make a quick buck is writing a trashy romance novel. Only he doesn't know how so he seeks help from the most successful romance novel author of all.

What I like best is the style of prose and the difficulties the main character, Joe Leonard, has as he writes from three different personas: himself, Fiona Pilgrim (the fawning housewife would-be author seeking the help), and the romance novel heroine. I can't stop laughing while I read how he tries to keep it up. This is a great novel.

"Guffman" and "Spinal Tap" for Writers
If you laughed at the "Remains of the Day" lunch boxes and "Dinner with Andre" action figures in "Waiting for Guffman", and if you fed off the original plot twists in "World According to Garp" - in short if you want a great laugh delivered via terrific writing, this is a book to add to your library.

In the beginning we meet Joe Leonard, frustrated legit writer, desperate for income, who adopts a pseudonym (Fiona Pilgrim), with the intention of hacking out romance novels.

Been there (with above plot) and done that, you might think, but you haven't been where this author takes you. After setting the premise, author Rubadeau reveals his tale through a series of letters from his protaganist, Joe to an academic mentor at Harvard, from Joe (as Fiona) to June Featherstone (Britain's top romance author), and from June to Fiona. As three romance stories develop, those real more implausible than those fictional, we learn the do's and don'ts of authoring romance (i.e., romance readers aren't generally fluent in foreign languages, but we can skip translating "cul-de-sac"), along with more details about Romania than we ever hoped (or wanted) to know.

In one sentence, I recommend "The Passionate Papers of Fiona Pilgrim" because it's well-crafted and fun!

Excellent information
Ms.Yudkin is clearly an expert in this field, and offers excellent tips on marketing and designing forms useful for small businesses. This is definitely a book worth reading.

A 'Must-Have' For Small Businesspeople
As an established freelance writer, I am often asked to coach writers new to freelancing. Most need to learn to see themselves as businesspeople, as well as writers. Toward that end, I always refer them to two of my 'bibles': "This Business of Writing" by Gregg Levoy and "Persuading on Paper" by Marcia Yudkin -- the best book on tight-budget publicity I've ever seen.

Filled to the brim with practical advice.
I have covered Ms. Yudkin's book with hot pink highlighter! It's crammed full of just what I was looking for: practical, applicable tips for marketing your business. She gives many examples of actual businesses' brochure copy, ad ideas, and sales letter approaches. I have a ton of new methods to try!

The Peterkin Papers

A Classic
Lucretia P Hale's, The Peterkin Papers is as wonderful today as I'm sure it was in 1880, when it was originally published. Meet the Peterkins, a nineteenth century family, totally lacking in common sense and enjoy their troubles and adventures as they muddle through life's challenges. For example, what do the Peterkins do when their daughter, Eliza Elizabeth's piano is delivered and set in front of the living room window backwards. They solve this problem by simply opening the window and she sits outside, on the porch playing and practicing. This is all fine during the summer, but when fall and winter arrive, it becomes too cold for her to sit out, even in her winter coat. Enter the lady from Philadelphia...she's so wise that she always has a quick solution to these tough Peterkin problems. "But why don't you turn the piano 'round?" And the Peterkins are always amazed that they didn't think of that. As Mrs Peterkins says, "What shall we do when the lady, from Philadelphia goes home again?" This is a delightful book of short chapters, each detailing a glich in the Peterkin's lives, that will charm and amuse your family, as it has families for many generations. The Peterkin Papers is an American classic and the perfect read-aloud book the whole family can share together.

One's education is lacking if you have not read this book
Ask the lady from Philadelphia -- a classic line -- one that is often quoted -- the book has been read by five generations in my family -- it is just as relevent today as when written

Great for reading aloud. Engineers will enjoy the humor.
The basic Peterkin formula: the Peterkins are stupid, yetlogical. They are completely devoid of common sense. Theyget into complicated situations and try to work their way out by adding complexity. Eventually they consult the wise old lady from Philadelphia, who always has a sensible, commonplace, wise, BORING answer. The stories are also an unforgettable picture of daily life in what seems to be a suburb of Boston in the early nineteenth century, almost an Eastern version of "Little House on the Prairie." And somehow there is an impression of a _slightly_ dysfunctional family that manages to muddle through, through with warmth, affection, and mutual tolerance. Stories are just the right length for reading aloud. Anyone eight years old or older will appreciate the humor.
